African-American men and women spend billions of dollars on their hair, but U.S. beauty care companies are missing out. Mintel values the black hair care industry at more than $2.5 billion, but that statistic doesn't include products such as hair accessories, wigs or electric styling products. So, the industry is actually worth much more. Most hair care products purchased by African-Americans are imported from countries such as India and China, despite the U.S. having one of the most lucrative hair care markets in the world.» Subscribe to CNBC: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. BBC World News interview with Silent Spring's Dr. Jessica Helm (air date: 4/30/2018). Dr. Helm discusses a new study by the institute that shows that Black women are potentially exposed to dozens of hazardous chemicals through the hair products they use. This is the first study to measure concentrations of endocrine-disrupting chemicals—substances that interfere with the body’s hormones—in a variety of hair products marketed at Black women. The findings could help researchers understand why Black women have higher exposures to hazardous chemicals than other groups and how these elevated exposures contribute to health disparities in the U.S. population. More information about the study: https://bit.ly/2KsvThg

Are black hair products responsible for the explosion of cancer, fibroids and other health complications among black women? Studies are confirming that not only are hair products for African women the least regulated in the world but they contain all kinds of carcinogenic and other toxic chemicals that are making African women all kinds of health issues! We need to come together and protect ourselves.

Contact Sal: www.root2tip.com (Non-Toxic natural Haircare) Connect on Social Media: Instagram, facebook, Twitter @root2tip A news report on BBC1 London recently stated that 80% of the products made for black women, contain cancer causing properties? So what exactly is going on? many of the ingredients found to be endocrine disruptors, cause diseases that a higher proportion of black women contract in relation to their white counterparts. The US study from the Silent Spring Institute was conducted to narrow down the sources that cause black women and children to be subject to internal body disruptions that relate to the products they may use. The study found that out of the 18 products tested, 11 of them contained ingredients banned for use in the EU! Root2tip Founder, Hairducation expert, writer and Cosmetic scientist , Sal who started making natural haircare products to help regrow her hair, (after a bout of hairloss)and help other women and children with hair loss and general hair maintenance wants to inform and spread hairducation. As consumers we are unaware of the ingredients, this short docufilm will give you an idea of what to look for. We look briefly at Parabens, Pthalates, Siloxanes (silcone) Placenta, BHT, MIT and more. Why do black hair products cause cancer, what ingredients affect the genitals of unborn boys if the pregnant mother is using ' product A' containing such ingredients? Hormones in HAIRCARE? What is that about? Sal researched this subject in 2011, a study uncovered the facts that, young black girls in America, as young as 3 or 4 years old were entering into puberty prematurely. The children were growing breasts and pubic hair, they were watched for a duration of 8 weeks and the disruption was linked to the ingredients in their haircare products, namely, placenta, interfering with the endocrine system in their little bodies. When the children stopped using the products the symptoms of puberty went away! Manufacturers of toxins: We take you into the local hairshop, and show you 6 or 7 brands that formulate products for children with ingredients banned for use in the EU and also in the UK. We looked at popular brand Curly Kids HAIRCARE and discovered known toxin, MIT... or better known as: METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE, THE TOXIC INGREDIENT THAT COULD CAUSE NERVE DAMAGE. The biggest concern with this ingredient came to light when researchers conducted two recent laboratory studies on rat brain cells, and found that MIT caused damage to those cells. The researchers stated, “a brief exposure to methylisothiazolinone, a widely used industrial and household biocide, is highly toxic to cultured neurons….” The scientists went on to state that these toxic effects had been reported previously, and because of their widespread use, the consequences of chronic human exposure need to be evaluated. What was most concerning about this study was that the exposure was only 10 minutes long. The truth on Parabens: Of greatest concern is that parabens are known to disrupt hormone function, an effect that is linked to increased risk of breast cancer and reproductive toxicity,” reports the non-profit Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (CSC). “Parabens mimic estrogen by binding to estrogen receptors on cells Pthalates- the danger: In the past few years, researchers have linked phthalates to asthma, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, breast cancer, obesity and type II diabetes, low IQ, neurodevelopmental issues, behavioural issues, autism spectrum disorders, altered reproductive development and male fertility issues.

Who said Black Hair Don't Grow? Black Beauty hair is to her Bum! 😲. Open me to see this little sister's long natural hair. Visit https://ChicLadyT.com for more info! Watch in HD please! I hear it often when I go out. My white friends are curious as to how I grew my hair so long. They initially think my hair is weave but once I show them it isn't they then ask me a host of questions. Like, how is it that my hair is long when most black women they see have very short or fake hair? Now, many of my white friends have good intentions so no shade here. It's just that They believe that because of the few black women they see have short or fake hair that African/Black hair don't grow. I then explain to them that “hair growth” is completely different from “length retention”. Some blacks use products and techniques that don't work for their hair and break it off at a faster rate than it grows. If black hair didn't grow they would never have to do touch ups on color or perms. I mean think about it, how come your nails are short? Is it because they don't grow? No, it's because they break. Once blacks receive the proper education on how to care for their hair and start using the correct products, their hair flourishes. As prime example with this black beauty. It's time for this week's spotlight on those beauty guru's who are shinning out there and today I want to show some love to a sister who locks are worth noticing and to the stylist who silk pressed it. The black beauty's hair is to her bum. Her hair long, beautiful and healthy. She clearly has been taking care of it. Press play on the video above to see for yourself. P.S. Hi guys, So, I get a lot of questions especially in my DMs on Instagram and Facebook. This video was a result of one question I received from a friend, asking me to do a video on what is considered safe and what is not when it comes to hair products for black women. The question came about after a video that went viral about a study that was done in the US on hair products specially made for black women that contain chemicals that are potentially harmful to us . Hair products for Black women contain mix of hazardous ingredients https://youtu.be/s_nsaXOWFYw In this video I’m sharing my thoughts on the matter and also highlighting Black Owned Brands created by Black Women who sought to make a change for us. Hair care products marketed to black women could be putting them at risk for a host of health issues, like cancer, reproductive disorders, asthma and birth defects. So say scientists at the Silent Spring Institute in Newton, Massachusetts. They tested 18 hair products in six categories such as the anti-frizz/polisher, relaxer and root stimulator categories. Using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (which can determine chemicals in compounds), the team checked whether the 18 products contained any of 66 endocrine disrupters connected with the ailments mentioned earlier. The testing revealed 45 disrupters, with each product containing from six to 30 of the targeted chemicals.
