Are You Gangster Enough to Do Business in China? | China Uncensored

04:13
It's the rare person who is gangster enough, hardcore enough, to go toe to toe with Chinese businessmen. Mainly because those guys act like gangsters themselves. Take for example Chinese billionaire businessman Liu Han, who has just been charged with crimes for allegedly running a mafia-style gang. He made his fortune through murder, fraud, extortion, gunrunning, and illegal detention. Doesn't he know that's the business of the Chinese government? For 20 years, Liu Han and his brother wove a network of terror throughout China's Sichuan province. So why did it take so long for him to be stopped? Because it's only been recently that his political patron Zhou Yongkang has himself been put under investigation. In China, the line between businessmen, politician, and gangster is a fine one. Well, that's because he was also charged with m u r d e r, fraud, extortion, g u n-running, illegal detention and running a 'mafia-like' g a n g. Liu Han is one serious bad dude, but that's not why he's being executed. He's been given a d e a t h sentence because he found himself on the wrong side in a battle for power within the CCP, one between Chinese leader Xi Jinping, and Liu Han's political patron Zhou Yongkang. ► China Rises - China or Bust (Sky Vision Documentary)

50:12
China -- a superpower emerging at breakneck speed. It's the Holy Grail for risk-taking entrepreneurs. Every day, hundreds of British businessmen arrive full of hope and expectation. It's the land of opportunity. It's a place where dreams can come true. But Chinese entrepreneurs, unleashed after 50 years of communism, are taking no prisoners in their own relentless quest for wealth. In the wild east, only the toughest will survive. These British businessmen are risking everything as they venture into the real dragon's den. Who will make their fortune and who will return home penniless? Tony Caldera's cushion business has been ruined by cheap Chinese imports. Today, his Liverpool factory stands deserted. There were hundreds of people working there. They all had jobs for life. They were the number-one cushion maker probably in Europe. Everything was made in England, and life was great, and they were all happy. All of a sudden, China has come along, and they just can't compete anymore. In a last-ditch attempt to salvage his business, Tony is taking a huge gamble. He's borrowed two million pounds to build a factory in a paddy field in China. Thirty-six-year-old Tony has bought a one-way ticket to Linping, a city in the heart of China's vast textile industry. If everything goes according to plan, Tony can rebuild his business and regain his crown as the king of cushions. On his first trip to China, Tony had a chance encounter with a woman called Miss Di. She convinced him that for a 30% share of the company, she'd make an excellent business partner. If you're going to do some business in China, you need a good Chinese business partner and he's got one. Miss Di has been supervising the construction of the factory and has now invited Tony to see the completed two-million-pound building. But when he arrives, things aren't quite as okay as he expected.

China Style Small Business

08:11
In China owning your own business is as common as getting a job. The sheer number of ma and pa operations is staggering. Each individual business sells a specific set of goods and because there are so many people in China this system seems to work. In the west if you tried this you wouldn't fare very good as there just aren't enough people to make a go of it. The west is mostly big box stores but in China the small stores are the dominant sellers. They have a lower over head and thus lower prices. It's hard to compete with them on price. The new China high end malls are only for the brand name companies so if you want to get brand name you have to shop at the big boy stores in China. Watch as I walk around some random areas of Nanning and take video of some of the little shops and the goods they are selling. You may be interested in one back street I was walking down but turned around because...well take a look at the video it's an interesting one.

Jack Ma: Believe in yourself, believe in doing business in China

57:01
Jack Ma: Believe in yourself, believe in doing business in China China's leading entrepreneur, Jack Ma, offered heavy doses of rags-to-riches inspiration and exhortations to embrace free trade and globalization during his keynote speech today at Cobo Center. Ma, the co-founder of e-commerce giant Alibaba and one of the world's wealthiest men, dominated this morning's sessions at the Gateway 17 conference, already heavy with business celebrities such as lifestyle guru Martha Stewart and Dave Abney, CEO of parcel delivery company UPS. Ma's message: Doing business in China via e-commerce sites such as Alibaba proves ideal for small businesses and entrepreneurs like many found in Detroit. "Small business, you have nothing to lose," Ma exhorted his roughly 3,000 listeners. "The only thing you have to lose is the opportunity. Lose the hope, lose the future." Along with the inspiration he sprinkled some startling statistics to capture the opportunity in China: That the Alibaba platform recently sold 2 million lipsticks in 10 minutes, or that when the site first started selling live Canadian lobsters for delivery to China, they sold nearly 100,000 immediately, enough to shut down the supply. "Don't miss this chance," he said. "Embrace the change. See the future. Change yourself." Gateway '17 is Alibaba's road show to promote greater U.S. exports to China, where a growing middle class — already some 300 million or more strong — is showing an insatiable appetite for consumer goods. Ma said Alibaba picked Detroit for the conference because the Midwest has a lot of small businesses, particularly those providing various food products that could please Chinese consumers. His goal, he said, is to allow consumers anywhere to buy products from anywhere in the world — salmon from Norway, coconuts from Thailand — and receive them within 72 hours. Alibaba is generally described as the Amazon.com of China. With $23 billion in annual revenues and 454 million active buyers, the site is enormous. Alibaba's online platforms account for 80% of all e-commerce in China. The company said the Detroit conference is the largest such event outside of mainland China that it has held for small businesses interested in exporting to that nation. As in other appearances, Ma celebrated his own journey from youthful failure to ultimate success. He recounted how he failed at multiple job applications in his early years, from police officer to fast-food worker, finally launching Alibaba with friends and supporters 18 years ago. More than 30 venture capitalists in Silicon Valley declined to finance the venture. Against that background, he emphasized the dangers of traditional markers of business success. "When you get a feel of being successful, problems come," he said. "We know only if our customers succeed, we will be successful. Serve the people, that was what I learned." And he promoted the benefits of globalization, noting that free trade may have a bad reputation in the U.S. today but that it remains essential to consumers everywhere. And the market in China is vast. Ma cited one telling statistic: Last year, some 150 million Chinese traveled abroad, a number equal to almost half the U.S. population. It was hard to tell how many of the 3,000 or so attendees who packed Cobo's ballroom were already exporting to China or just curious. But Ma and the other speakers who spoke glowingly of doing business in China made a strong case why more should consider it. Meanwhile, UPS's Abney advised the audience to understand the customs and culture of any nation where they hope to do business. "To sell around the world, you must go native," he said. And lifestyle guru Stewart said China is proving a very welcoming market for her. "My experience is — good living can translate all over the world." *CREDIT Jack Ma FAIR-USE COPYRIGHT DISCLAIMER * Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, commenting, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Even the currency of more than 15 African countries is linked to the Euro and controlled by France. Nonetheless, despite this strong political sway, the economy is a totally different animal. After centuries of colonialism, African countries haven’t evolved. And China is the ultimate trade partner of most of the sub-Saharan countries. Yes, France is sending troops to Africa but China is sending businessmen. And they are getting a way better profit with it. In this video, we will talk about the French influence in Africa and this new political battle between China and France to take the biggest advantage of African emerging powers. We Went To The Fake Sneaker Capital Of China (HBO)

07:28
After the sun sets in Putian, thousands of bikes carrying fake sneakers hit the streets. The lace-up black market is no secret in Putian, and it's where you can find Chan, a vendor with a knack for getting high-quality pairs off the streets and into the hands of hypebeasts on the other side of the globe. With rubber, he struck gold. "I've spoken to some of our customers some of them are high school students some are college students university students. So yeah these are our main crowd you generally," Chan told VICE News. "It's usually the kids themselves were very resourceful. They understand about replicas they understand that these are high-quality sneakers and they come finding you saying, hey I'd like to buy some high-quality replicas from you." And while vendors are subject to police raids and potential lawsuits, Chan has been able to stay afloat. These days, the only thing slowing his business down is nitpicky sneakerheads. "Unfortunately, it's just the hard and fast rules of doing business. You meet difficult customers. You'll meet cheaters, you meet scammers who will be out there to cheat you off a pair of shoes," Chan said. "So, unfortunately, this kind of thing happens, especially when you're on a public domain like the Internet." VICE News met up with Chan at his headquarters to see how his business is racing ahead. China vs. South Africa

22:33
South Africa is going into business with China, and since it is my home country, I figured it's time to compare the 2 countries with each other. South Africa is a culturally diverse, up and coming economy, with a lot to offer, but is also dangerous, and many Chinese who are doing business there are starting to see how dangerous it can be. After growing up in South Africa, and living in China for 10 years, I can draw a lot of similarities between the two countries, but also some stark differences. Exiled Chinese Billionaire Uses YouTube To Wage A War On Corruption (HBO)

07:59
Guo Wengui sits in self-imposed exile in a $68 million apartment overlooking Central Park. The billionaire Chinese property tycoon has been waging a media war against his homeland’s government. Guo says he’s trying to stamp out corruption and graft, but China accuses him of the very same thing. Since January, Guo has taken to YouTube and Twitter making corruption allegations against top Chinese officials. Some of them have been disproven, some can’t be proven, but some have turned out to be accurate. Guo cites the retirement of China’s anti-corruption czar, Wang Qishan, as his most recent victory. Guo alleged Wang and his family made millions in mysterious business dealings. Wang did not respond to the allegations and was never investigated nor charged. China issued an arrest warrant for Guo but does not have an extradition treaty with the U.S., which has shown no interest in detaining him. Guo, for his part, is hoping the U.S. will grant him asylum and says he can be of use to the Trump Administration. The White House hasn’t commented on Guo’s case but his position as a dissident who may have access to insider information may make him a useful bargaining chip. Business body says China investments review good for Malaysia

01:56
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Council of Eminent Persons, MCCC president Tan Yew Sing said the chamber would prepare a report for the council on the views of grassroots businessmen on Chinese investments. Tan added that when it came to investments, it was important that the interests of Malaysians be protected in terms of labour, technology transfer and the environment. He also spoke on the government’s plans to reintroduce the sales and services tax (SST) to replace the goods and services tax (GST) “The implementation of the GST was rushed and not systematic enough,” he said of the 6% GST which came into effect in April 2015. He said for businessmen like him and the man on the street, the SST was better as the GST had an inflationary effect and led to higher prices.
