Oracle offers set-level operators and functions to manipulate nested tables. You can perform unions and intersects, check nested tables for equality and more. This lessons explores the MULTISET features of nested tables in detail. Oracle SQL Tutorial 32 - VARCHAR2 and NVARCHAR2

03:06
This video we are going to discuss the VARCHAR2 and the NVARCHAR2 data types. The previous videos are a good foundation to this video. I've actually discussed so much stuff in those videos that I don’t have a whole lot to say. Good for you, right? I discussed over the previous videos that you should prefer to use VARCHAR2 over CHAR. That's because there is not a difference in performance or storage for a VARCHAR2 column. The only difference is that an CHAR column forces each value to take up a certain length even if it's not. There is one difference between the variable length and fixed length data types here that you need to know about, and that is storage limits. CHAR has a limit of 2000 bytes, while VARCHAR2 has a limit of 4000 bytes. That means you can store twice as much junk in a VARCHAR2 column! Other than that, these data types work exactly the same. I recommend you always use the VARCHAR2 data types instead of the CHAR data types, and only use NVARCHAR2 if you have a non-Unicode database. This will allow you to store Unicode characters in a column. Now, the amount of storage you can put in a VARCHAR2 column is twice what you can put in a CHAR column, but 4000 characters is still not very many characters. This is where the LOB data types come in, which we will discuss in the next video! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Oracle DECOMPOSE Function

01:41
The Oracle DECOMPOSE function is used to transform a string into a Unicode string. It will split a character that has an accent, for example, into two characters. It’s the opposite of the COMPOSE function. The syntax of the DECOMPOSE function is: DECOMPOSE ( input_string [CANONICAL|COMPATIBILITY] ) The parameters of this function are: - input_string is the string that will be decomposed into separate character values in a string. It can be any character data type. - CANONICAL|COMPATIBILITY is an optional parameter and allows you to specify the mode of decomposition. CANONICAL is the default. CANONICAL means it can be re-composed with the COMPOSE function. COMPATIBILITY means that it can’t be re-composed, but it can be useful for katakana characters. Oracle SQL Tutorial 33 - NUMBER Data Type

07:18
This video we are going to discuss the NUMBER data type. The Number data type is used to store integers, and real numbers. When you create a column as a NUMBER, you can store pretty huge or pretty small numbers in this column. Now there are two things you need to consider when working with numbers, and that is the precision as well as the how big the number is. For example, we can store the number 9.9. This has two significant digits. We could also store the number 9.9 X 10^4. In this situation, the number is much larger, but the number of significant digits is the same. 9.9 are the significant digits. When we expand this out we just have 99000, and the zeros are just used for size and are not considered "significant" in this situation. In fact, you get a max precision of 38, but a maximum value of 9.99 * 10^125. You can also use this data type to store very small numbers. Check the docs for the specifics on maximums and minimums. You can provide it with two pieces of information: Precision - The total number of digits. Scale - The number of digits to the right of the decimal. You do it in this format: NUMBER (precision, scale). The important thing to remember in this is that when you specify a precision, you will be limiting the max size of the numbers. The secret behind this data type is that it is actually stored in scientific notation. That is we store a number and then we can multiply it by 10 raised to some power. This allows us to store much larger numbers without taking up a ton of space. The oracle docs actually gives a formula that you can use to see how much storage is going to be required for a specific NUMBER data type. How much precision can be used? The acceptable range is 1-38. What about scale? The range is actually -84 to 127. I'll explain the scale in more detail in an upcoming video. That's because there is a lot of confusing things here…What does it mean for the scale to be negative? How can we have a scale that is bigger that the total number of digits available through the precision. That's a topic for another video. It's important to understand that when we increase our scale, we decrease the max size of the number. For example if we have a precision of 5 and a scale of 3, the highest number we can store is 99.999. This is in contrast to a precision of 5 and a scale of 2 which allows for up to 99.999. Either way you get 5 significant digits, but the numbers of digits to the left and right of the decimal change. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Oracle Database11g tutorials 13 || SQL substr function / SQL substring function

link of SQL substr blog : http://www.rebellionrider.com/SQL-substr-function.htm SQL substr function SQL Substr function will return a sub string of a specified length from the source string beginning at a given position. Tool used in this tutorial is command prompt. This tutorial series is part of SQL expert exam certification training. if you are preparing for SQL certification you can use my tutorials. This SQL Tutorial is a part of free training. Let's see the Syntax Substr (source_string, start_pos, Substr_length) As we can see SQL substr function takes 3 parameters. First one is Source string from which you want to extract the segment. Second parameter is Starting position for sub string from the Source string. And the third parameter is Substr_length which is the length for the substring. First two parameters are mandatory to specify while third one is optional. So we can say. SQL Substr function will return a sub string of a specified length from the source string beginning at a given position. First parameter source string can be of any data type CHAR, VARCHAR2, NCHAR, NVARCHAR2, CLOB, or NCLOB whereas both start_pos, Substr_length parameters must be number data type. The returning result of SQL Substr function is of same data type of source string. Let's see an example of SQL Substr function. SELECT substr('www.RebellionRider.com',5,14) FROM dual; Here in this query url of my website www.RebellionRider.com is our source string with the total length of 22 characters, Now, I want to extract the name of my website that is, RebellionRider. So if you count the total length of the name of the website, it is 14. That's why I have specified 14 as my third parameter of SQL Substr function which is substr_length. Also the name of the website RebellionRider is starting from 5th position therefore I have specified 5 at second parameter of SQL substr function which is strt_pos or starting position. Execute it. Here is our result RebellionRider When starting position is larger than the length of source string. In this case SQL Substr function will return NULL as a result. Let's do an example. SELECT substr('www.RebellionRider.com',23,14) FROM dual; As you can see here I have specified 23 at starting position and the total length of our source string is 22 characters Let's execute And the result is Null. Second scenario When the Substr_length is greater than source string In this case the segment return is the substring from starting position to the end of the string. For example SELECT substr('www.RebellionRider.com',5,23) FROM dual; Our starting position is at 5 means at the first R of RebellionRider and length of substring is set to 23 which is greater than the length of source string that is 22. Execute. As you can see we get a substring from first R of RebellionRider till the end of the source String. Third scenario When you supply numeric or arithmetic expression or a DATE instead of character as Source string to SQL Substr function In this scenario If you have supplied a numeric string instead of character as source string, the oracle engine casts them as a character when they occur as parameter to SQL Substr function. And if you have supplied Arithmetic expression or a DATE then The Oracle engine first solves or evaluates the Arithmetic expression or the DATE Then casts them as a character. Means if you have arithmetic expression in your source string then oracle will first solve it and then change or say cast the value of its result into character. Let's see some example. SELECT substr(50000-7,2,4) FROM dual; Oracle first evaluates the arithmetic expression that is 50000-7 equals to 49993. And then oracle engine casts this result 49993 into a character string. Means 49993 will be a 5 characters string. Starting position of substring is 2, that means from the first 9 of 49993 We specified the length of substring is 4 so we must get 9993 as our result. Let's check execute

COALESCE Function in SQL ORACLE Query With Example

03:53
ORACLE/PLSQL: COALESCE FUNCTION The Oracle/PLSQL COALESCE function returns the first non-null expression in the list. If all expressions evaluate to null, then the COALESCE function will return null. The syntax for the Oracle/PLSQL COALESCE function is: coalesce( expr1, expr2, ... expr_n ) PARAMETERS: expr1 to expr_n are the expressions to test for non-null values. EXAMPLE: The COALESCE function can be used in Oracle/PLSQL. You could use the coalesce function in a SQL statement as follows: SELECT COALESCE( address1, address2, address3 ) result FROM suppliers; The above COALESCE function is equivalent to the following IF-THEN-ELSE statement: IF address1 is not null THEN result := address1; ELSIF address2 is not null THEN result := address2; ELSIF address3 is not null THEN result := address3; ELSE result := null; END IF; The COALESCE function will compare each value, one by one. Lets apply the same to emp table. We have some NULL values in comm and mgr columns. but not in any other columns. So lets take a example for this 2 columns. COALESCE(comm,mgr,sal) Here if comm is null, function returns mgr value. If mgr is null it returns sal value! Query used in video: SELECT ename,comm,mgr,sal,COALESCE(comm,mgr,sal) result FROM emp;

How to Concatenate String Values with Integer values in SQL Server - TSQL Tutorial

10:23
How to Concatenate String and Integer Values in SQL Server ( + Sign vs CONCAT ) - TSQL Tutorial Working with Databases is fun. On daily basis we save data into tables in different columns and often we need to write queries which involve concatenation of multiple columns of different datatypes to produce our final output. In below example we have saved some data into #Customer Table which has Street Address column as string and zip as INT. we want to produce Full Address by concatenating these columns. To concatenate we can use + sign but this works only with String values. So if we have any Integer value/s we have to convert them to String first. We can use Cast or Convert function to convert Integer value to string. Also if there is any Null value among which values we are concatenating , our output will be Null by using + sign. To take care of that part we can use either ISNULL() or Coalesce Function to replace NULL with blank value in SQL Server. In SQL Server 2012 and Later versions, CONCAT function was introduced. You can concatenate multiple values by using this function. Fun part of this function is you don't have to worry about Null outcome as it will Ignore Null values and also you don't have to worry about converting INT into strings, It will take care of that automatically. So if you are using new versions such as 2012 or later, start taking advantage of this function. SQL: Lag

04:40
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to make use of lag function in oracle sql PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

The Ifa Divination System

03:07
UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2008 URL: https://ich.unesco.org/en/RL/ifa-divination-system-00146 Description: The Ifa divination system, which makes use of an extensive corpus of texts and mathematical formulas, is practiced among Yoruba communities and by the African diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean. The word Ifa refers to the mystical figure Ifa or Orunmila, regarded by the Yoruba as the deity of wisdom and intellectual development. In contrast to other forms of divination in the region that employ spirit mediumship, Ifa divination does not rely on a person having oracular powers but rather on a system of signs that are interpreted by a diviner, the Ifa priest or babalawo, literally the priests father. The Ifa divination system is applied whenever an important individual or collective decision has to be made. The Ifa literary corpus, called odu, consists of 256 parts subdivided into verses called ese, whose exact number is unknown as they are constantly increasing (there are around 800 ese per odu). Each of the 256 odu has its specific divination signature, which is determined by the babalawo using sacred palm-nuts and a divination chain. The ese, considered the most important part of Ifa divination, are chanted by the priests in poetic language. The ese reflect Yoruba history, language, beliefs, cosmovision and contemporary social issues. The knowledge of Ifa has been preserved within Yoruba communities and transmitted among Ifa priests. Under the influence of colonial rule and religious pressures, traditional beliefs and practices were discriminated against. The Ifa priests, most of whom are quite old, have only modest means to maintain the tradition, transmit their complex knowledge and train future practitioners. As a result, the youth and the Yoruba people are losing interest in practising and consulting Ifa divination, which goes hand-in-hand with growing intolerance towards traditional divination systems in general. This segment is about how to shuffle and cut the cards. Well there are many ways, and it's nice to have a few different ways at your disposal so that you can choose, sometimes just on your mood and sometimes on the requirements of a particular layout. We'll be having segments on different layouts that you can do as well in this series. But this moment is really about shuffling itself. If you are a little bit more adept at shuffling cards, you might like to do it in that very nice way that we do when we're playing cards. Like that. I like to do that four times when I shuffle them in that manner. For each letter for the name of God: yod, hey, vav, and hey. Of course that's in Hebrew. But there are simple ways. The main thing is when you shuffle, have an intention. I like to announce to the cards when I mix them. Exactly what layout I'm gonna do, who I am; we're gonna have a segment on how to choose an significator as well meaning the card that represents yourself, and how you're going to shuffle. One of the most easy ways, I call going fishing. I put the cards on the table and I strat to move them around. You don't have to be fancy but notice I move them, I'm giving them a chance to find different borders. I'm giving them an opportunity to be up-right or reversed and then when I've moved them to my hearts content; and remember this is a short video so I'm not going to move them around very much, you can take as long or as short as you like. Choosing when you're going fishing is a non rational process, so you have to trust that whatever card you're attracted to that's the card for you. In fact I often tell my students, "you can not do it wrong." Say I was going to pick a card for myself for Whats My Lesson for Today. I would have moved them around if I'm just going fishing and then I find myself attracted to one. And lucky me it's the ten of pentacles. Why, it's the ultimate in the lord of wealth and the lord of well being. I know today is going to go very well for me, it's a rich day. We have another segment on how to use reverse cards. You could pull maybe 10, 20 cards this way if you're doing a longer more involved layout. It's perfectly fine. Sometimes I use the round and round method which I like to think of all the ingredients of life being stirred in a big cauldron, and I stir my question into the cards which I have announced to the cards silently from my heart. I stir it in as though it were and ingredient in the stew of life and I want it to be well mixed so that I combine methods. Certainly one can do go fishing just any old time, but sometimes that's just step one for me. Then after I've moved them round and round, I bring them together and I don't worry to much. I put them together in a pile. Notice how I get the bottom ones nice and solid on the table and the ones tthat have stayed upright I turn to the side and bring them together. Now I'm ready to do any number of other kinds of cuts. One is I take them and I spread them like a rainbow ark on the table, and in that way I then let my hand or encourage the person who I'm reading for, to move their hand back and forth across the cards. Sometimes I'll feel more heat, sometimes I'll feel a little vibration, sometimes it's not that at all. Remember choosing is non rational. I'll just be attracted to a card, one will peek out at me and for some reason I want it. And I will choose. Say I'm doing a three card reading. I pull one. I go back and I feel for the next I pull two, and I go back; say I'm doing a little three card reading, and I pull the third. Turning them over is important. I like to always turn them over from them side, bcause I like them to be in the very same way that the Terro has presented them. Here is a little message for me. In the center we see the card of great contentment, but it's reversed. Maybe I'm too worried and not content about my work today. I may have started out, here's that maybe the past and the future all unsure. Maybe avoiding some things, but I'm gonna wind up strong and powerful, and working with the subconscious in a very good way. Respect reversed and upright and pleased check out our segment on the meanings of reversed cards. Here's another way of cutting. There are so many
