These functions include building database objects, manipulating objects, populating database tables with data, updating existing data in tables, deleting data, performing database queries, controlling database access, and overall database administration. The main categories are DDL (Data Definition Language) DML (Data Manipulation Language) DQL (Data Query Language) DCL (Data Control Language) Data administration commands Transactional control commands Defining Database Structures Data Definition Language, DDL, is the part of SQL that allows a database user to create and restructure database objects, such as the creation or the deletion of a table. Some of the most fundamental DDL commands discussed during following hours include the following: CREATE TABLE ALTER TABLE DROP TABLE CREATE INDEX ALTER INDEX DROP INDEX CREATE VIEW DROP VIEW Manipulating Data Data Manipulation Language, DML, is the part of SQL used to manipulate data within objects of a relational database. There are three basic DML commands: INSERT UPDATE DELETE Selecting Data Though comprised of only one command, Data Query Language (DQL) is the most concentrated focus of SQL for modern relational database users. The base command is as follows: SELECT This command, accompanied by many options and clauses, is used to compose queries against a relational database. Queries, from simple to complex, from vague to specific, can be easily created. The SELECT command is discussed in exhilarating detail during Hours 7 through 16. A query is an inquiry to the database for information. A query is usually issued to the database through an application interface or via a command line prompt. Data Control Language Data control commands in SQL allow you to control access to data within the database. These DCL commands are normally used to create objects related to user access and also control the distribution of privileges among users. Some data control commands are as follows: ALTER PASSWORD GRANT REVOKE CREATE SYNONYM You will find that these commands are often grouped with other commands and may appear in a number of different lessons throughout this book. Data Administration Commands Data administration commands allow the user to perform audits and perform analyses on operations within the database. They can also be used to help analyze system performance. Two general data administration commands are as follows: START AUDIT STOP AUDIT Do not get data administration confused with database administration. Database administration is the overall administration of a database, which envelops the use of all levels of commands. Database administration is much more specific to each SQL implementation than are those core commands of the SQL language. Transactional Control Commands In addition to the previously introduced categories of commands, there are commands that allow the user to manage database transactions. COMMIT Saves database transactions ROLLBACK Undoes database transactions SAVEPOINT Creates points within groups of transactions in which to ROLLBACK SET TRANSACTION Places a name on a transaction Transactional commands are discussed extensively during Hour 6, "Managing Database Transactions."

How to Set Environment Variables in Windows

01:27
Follow this step by step tutorial to learn how to set environment variables from system settings in the windows operating system. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ In this tutorial, you will learn how to set environment variables in windows. Operating systems require environment variables as settings and configurations for several processes. Although these variables are automatically defined or initialized during the installation of the system or specific software, in windows, to set environment variables manually is not a difficult task. That's because windows allows us to manually add, remove or edit environment variables through system settings according to our requirements. Step # 1 -- Opening environment variables In windows, to set environmental variables, you can take two paths. Either we can go to control panel, then access the system security option, and then the system option. Or we can simply right click on My Computer and select its properties. Once we are in the system window, select the advanced system settings from the list on the left side. A new window will pop up. Over here, click on the environment variables button near the bottom of this window and you can now access the Windows environment variables. Step # 2 -- Adding a variable In this window there are two sets of environment variables, one is the "user variables", and the other is the "system variables". Choose the new button in the user variables section to open the "define a new variable" dialog window. Over here, you will be required to define the variable name as anything you wish to set, such as temporary and then define its value as the path to the directory. With that done, let's complete this process by pressing OK. Your new environment variable has been created now. Step # 3 -- Editing and removing a variable To edit an environment variable, click on it, and then click on the edit button to open a dialog window. Here we can edit the name and value of the variable. Likewise to remove an environment variable, simply click on the variable and then click on the delete button. Once all the definitions are complete, close the window and restart your computer to allow the operating system to load these settings on boot. And that's basically all you need to know for how to set environment variables in windows.

MySQL is a popular choice of database for use in web applications, and is a central component of the widely used LAMP open source web application software stack (and other 'AMP' stacks). LAMP is an acronym for "Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl/PHP/Python." Free-software-open source projects that require a full-featured database management system often use MySQL. Spring Boot Properties File and Profiles Tutorial | Externalised Environment Configuration

10:08
Hi, Use Spring Boot to externalise your environment specific runtime configuration. Environment specific configuration is usually stored in properties files, YAML files and command line arguments. In this tutorial i will show you how to specifically configure your application for the environment it is deployed into. Having externalised configuration will allow you to propagate your single generated software artefact through your different environments (E.g. Dev, Test, Production). I first created an application.properties and placed it on the application's CLASSPATH. This is one of four locations Spring Boot will look for the default properties file. Properties configured here will be common for all environments unless explicitly overridden. See Spring Boot Features, 24. Externalized Configuration for properties order. I then created an application-{environment}.properties file for each environment. The {environment} is substituted for the spring profile. This can be set using -Dspring.profiles.active virutal machine argument. This is passed into the application on bootup, so from your deployment YAML file / bash shell script etc. E.g. Set your spring profile per environment: -Dspring.profiles.active=local -Dspring.profiles.active=dev -Dspring.profiles.active=test -Dspring.profiles.active=production This will then loads the common application.properites THEN the environment specific properties file. One of: application-local.properties application-dev.properties application-test.properties application-production.properties Spring will then substitute the properties throughout its configuration of the spring container. Enjoy! What is Oracle Base?

07:39
When you install Oracle Software for the first time in a machine, you would need to specify a folder that would act as a base for all the Oracle related softwares and folders. And every subsequent folders will be organized and referred using this base folder. This folder is called ORACLE_BASE For example, if you configure C:\app\oracle as your ORACLE BASE, then every folders will be created beneath it in an uniform structure. If you install, Oracle 12c software in Windows, it will by default, be installed in, C:\app\oracle\product\12.1.0\dbhome_1 Because Oracle_BASE is C:\app\oracle And, if you install, SQL Developer software, it will be installed in C:\app\oracle\product\sqldeveloper So, it is very important to setup the ORACLE_BASE environment variable before installing the Oracle software. To do that, first create the folder that you would want to designate as ORACLE_BASE. Then set the environment variable ORACLE_BASE What if ORACLE_BASE wasn’t set before invoking the Oracle Universal Installer? In Linux/UNIX: It will search for the first writable directory from /u01 to /u09 Let us say, it finds /u02 as the first writable directory and you have logged in as the OS user ‘oracle’ Then it will create a folder called /u02/app/oracle and will make it as the ORACLE_BASE If it cannot find any writable area from /u01 to /u09, then it will create the app/oracle directory under the user’s home directory. In Windows: It will search for the disk drive that has the most amount of free space Let us say, it finds D drive as the one and you are logged in as the OS user Oracle Then it will create a folder called D:\app\oracle and will make it as the ORACLE_BASE
