SHOCKING Facts About Drunk Driving!
Number one: Impairment does not rely on the type of alcohol consumed, but instead the number of drinks over a certain period of time. No matter what you drink, if you are drinking a lot of it, you will be affected by it. And despite myths and misconceptions, coffee, a cold shower, or exercise will not make a person more sober; only time will.
So be safe, and don't act on false information.
Number Two: A person will drive roughly 80 times under the influence without getting caught, so they are very prevalent. Please look out and pay attention while you drive. It's not too difficult to tell if someone is drunk, or even impaired by anything, while they are driving: swaying, going too slow, and so on. If you're behind someone who is driving oddly, make sure to get a lot of space between you and them to be as safe as possible.
Number Three: Every 51 minutes in America, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash. That equates to 27 people every day. Multiply that by 365 and it turns out to 9855. Almost 10,000 people die every year from drunk driving accidents. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but it really does show how likely and how often this kind of thing happens. You're not going to be a loser for helping your drunk friends. There always needs to be a sober person. Offer to be your parents’ or friends' designated driver to ensure that everybody gets home safe.
Number Four: For drivers under 21, the U.S. has a No Tolerance policy that does not allow any alcohol to be in the blood system while behind the wheel. The consequences could include expensive fines, loss of license or jail. I would imagine other countries would have something similar, even though not all countries have the same age limit as the United States does. But regardless of that, it is very important. So, kids, remember not to do anything stupid. It may sound fun at the time, but just imagine how much fun it would be to be in jail, or worse, dead.
Number Five: Every two minutes, someone is involved in a car crash related to drunk driving. That is 720 times a day. And every time you think about being a person that drinks and drives, it could very well be you. But not only that, even if you do not drink and drive, you can still be affected by it, so it is very important that you all be safe when driving at night, or really any time of day. Look out for yourself, as well as everyone else.
