The Five Forms Of Prayer
It's good for us to step back every once in a while and ask the Holy Spirit to help us balance the way we pray. If we were to take a gallup poll of our prayer life, we often discover that we have a high percentage of petition and intercession prayers but perhaps a low percentage of Blessing and Adoration, Thanksgiving and Praise prayers. So let's take a moment to review the basic forms of prayer with the goal of deepening and expanding our Blessing, Adoration, Thanksgiving and Praise prayers. It can be so helpful for us to memorize and to pray that beautiful section of the Gloria that we pray on Sundays: "We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory." The prayer of blessing is the human person's response to God's gifts. Because God blesses, the human heart can in return bless the One who is the source of every blessing. Our prayer ascends in the Holy Spirit through Christ to the Father -- we bless him for having blessed us. It implores the grace of the Holy Spirit that descends through Christ from the Father -- he blesses us. Adoration acknowledges that we are creatures before the Creator. It exalts the greatness of the Lord who made us and the almighty power of the Savior who sets us free from evil. Adoration is homage of the spirit to the "King of Glory," respectful silence in the presence of the "ever greater" God. By the prayer of petition we express our awareness of our relationship with God. The first movement of the prayer of petition is asking forgiveness, like the tax collector in the parable: "God be merciful to me a sinner!" A trusting humility brings us back in the light of communion between the Father and his Son Jesus Christ and with one another. Christian petition is centered on the desire and search for the Kingdom to come. We pray first for the Kingdom, then for what is necessary to welcome it and cooperate with its coming. By prayer every baptized person works for the coming of the Kingdom. Intercession is a prayer of petition which leads us to pray as Jesus did. He is the one intercessor with the Father on behalf of all people, especially sinners. A sincere prayer of intercession reveals a heart attuned to God's Divine Mercy. Thanksgiving characterizes the prayer of the Church which, in celebrating the Eucharist, reveals and becomes more fully what she is. As in the prayer of petition, every event and need can become an offering of thanksgiving. The letters of St. Paul often begin and end with thanksgiving: "Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving." Praise is the form of prayer which recognizes most immediately that God is God. It lauds God for his own sake and gives him glory, quite beyond what God does, but simply because He is. By praise, the Spirit is joined to our spirits to bear witness that we are children of God. Praise extends the depth and breadth of our souls.

5 COMPONENTS OF CATHOLIC PRAYER : 1. Prayer of Praise and Adoration: We find many prayers of this type in the Bible. This is prayer centered wholly upon God and His eternal characteristics–His majesty, glory, and power; His beauty and lavish love; His mercy and grace. Personal devotional prayer should begin with this type of prayer. 2. Prayer of Penitence: This is the next step in personal prayer, asking for forgiveness of sin. Psalm 51 is our best known prayer of penitence in the Bible. 3. Prayer of Petition: Petition means to ask for something. Because we are wholly dependent upon God for life He loves to have us ask for things. Perhaps this is the most used and misused prayer of all time. We all want material prosperity and popularity-but whenever we ask for material things we should remember to add, “Your will be done.” Although God cares about anything that concerns us and He wants us to ask Him for what we need, yet it pleases Him most when we ask for the Holy Spirit and the characteristics of Jesus. 4. Prayer of Thanksgiving: This is a prayer of appreciation for the gifts God has given us. Learning to be thankful is one of the best ways to combat depression and self-pity. Thanksgiving should be a part of every prayer. 5. Prayer of Intercession: When we intercede for others we come closest to God's heart. Jesus, in heaven, is our High Priest and His ministry is to intercede with the Father for mankind. When we join Him in praying for others we are most like Him. ====================================================== Follow: Google + : https://plus.google.com/u/2/101645062075633641362 Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/BLChristianMedia/ Twitter : https://twitter.com/BLChristmedia

*OTHER FORMS OF PRAYER* From time to time, during the remainder of Jesus' sojourn on earth, he brought to the notice of the apostles several additional forms of prayer, but he did this only in illustration of other matters, and he enjoined that these " parable prayers " should not be taught to the multitudes. Many of them were from other inhabited planets, but this fact Jesus did not reveal to the twelve. Among these prayers were the following : according to The Urantia Book. / Music Artist : Relaxation Reading Music. / Album : Music for reading-Music to Enhance Concentration. / Compositeur : Giuliano Sacchetto.

Prayer, The Great Means Of Grace, Full Catholic Audiobook
Christian prayers are quite varied. They can be completely spontaneous, or read entirely from a text, like the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. The most common prayer among Christians is the Lord's Prayer, which according to the gospel accounts (e.g. Matthew 6:9–13) is how Jesus taught his disciples to pray.[29] The Lord's prayer is a model for prayers of adoration, confession and petition in Christianity.[29] Christians generally pray to God or to the Father. Some Christians (e.g., Catholics, Orthodox) will also ask the righteous in heaven and "in Christ," such as Virgin Mary or other saints to intercede by praying on their behalf (intercession of saints). Formulaic closures include "through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, through all the ages of ages," and "in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit." It is customary among Protestants to end prayers with "In Jesus' name, Amen" or "In the name of Christ, Amen."[30] However, the most commonly used closure in Christianity is simply "Amen" (from a Hebrew adverb used as a statement of affirmation or agreement, usually translated as so be it). In the Western or Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church, probably the most common is the Rosary; In the Eastern Church (the Eastern rites of the Catholic Church and Orthodox Church), the Jesus Prayer. The Jesus Prayer is also often repeated as part of the meditative hesychasm practice in Eastern Christianity.[31] Roman Catholic tradition includes specific prayers and devotions as acts of reparation which do not involve a petition for a living or deceased beneficiary, but aim to repair the sins of others, e.g. for the repair of the sin of blasphemy performed by others.[32] Other forms of prayer among Catholics would be meditative prayer, contemplative prayer and infused prayer discussed at length by Catholic Saints St. John of the Cross and St. Theresa of Jesus.
