Morcheeba - The sea
Morcheeba - The sea lyrics Flocking to the sea Crowds of people wait for me Sea gulls scavenge Steal ice cream Worries vanish Within my dream I left my soul there, Down by the sea I lost control here Living free I left my soul there, Down by the sea I lost control here Living free Fishing boats sail past the shore No singing may-day any more The sun is shining The Water's clear Just you and I walk along the pier I left my soul there, Down by the sea I lost control here Living free I left my soul there, Down by the sea I lost control here Living free A cool breeze flows but mind the wasp Some get stung it's worth the cost I'd love to stay The city calls me home More hassles fuss and lies on the phone I left my soul there, Down by the sea I lost control here Living free I left my soul there, Down by the sea I lost control here Living free I left my soul there, Down by the sea I lost control here Living free I left my soul there, Down by the sea I lost control with you, And living, living, And I, living, by the sea

Welcome to Top10Archive! There are few things more terrifying than being lost amongst the deep blue sea. Amidst the expanse of blue, you just float, day in and day out, hoping that someone will happen upon you or you’ll drift to solid ground. Tales of people lost at sea end in one of two ways - either with celebration and good cheer or mystery and misery. For this installment, we’re going to retell ten tales of people that braved the high seas - and while some made it back to share their story, others sadly perished to the great depths. The Sea Peoples: Philistines and the Bronze Age Collapse (Lecture)
Aren M. Maeir, Professor, The Martin (Szusz) Department of Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology, Bar-Ilan University and Director, The Tell es-Safi/Gath Archaeological Project, The Institute of Archaeology. The Philistines are well-known from biblical texts as one of the main adversaries of the ancient Israelite's. At the same time, the biblical narrative indicates that other types of interactions also were the norm. Recent excavations in Philistia, and in particular those at Tell es-Safi, biblical Gath of the Philistines, hometown of Goliath, have provided exciting evidence of the very complex interaction between these two cultures, revealing the multi-layered facets of what could be termed a Frenemy relationship between the Philistines and Israelites. In addition, recent finds have very much changed our understanding of who the Philistines were, where they came from, and how their culture formed, transformed, and eventually disappeared. These topics will be addressed in this lecture. The David Kipper Ancient Israel Lecture Series was established through a gift from Barbara Kipper and the Kipper Family and includes an annual public lecture as well as a lecture for scholars at the Oriental Institute.

1177 BC: The Year Civilization Collapsed (Eric Cline, PhD)
From about 1500 BC to 1200 BC, the Mediterranean region played host to a complex cosmopolitan and globalized world-system. It may have been this very internationalism that contributed to the apocalyptic disaster that ended the Bronze Age. When the end came, the civilized and international world of the Mediterranean regions came to a dramatic halt in a vast area stretching from Greece and Italy in the west to Egypt, Canaan, and Mesopotamia in the east. Large empires and small kingdoms collapsed rapidly. With their end came the world’s first recorded Dark Ages. It was not until centuries later that a new cultural renaissance emerged in Greece and the other affected areas, setting the stage for the evolution of Western society as we know it today. Professor Eric H. Cline of The George Washington University will explore why the Bronze Age came to an end and whether the collapse of those ancient civilizations might hold some warnings for our current society. Considered for a Pulitzer Prize for his recent book 1177 BC, Dr. Eric H. Cline is Professor of Classics and Anthropology and the current Director of the Capitol Archaeological Institute at The George Washington University. He is a National Geographic Explorer, a Fulbright scholar, an NEH Public Scholar, and an award-winning teacher and author. He has degrees in archaeology and ancient history from Dartmouth, Yale, and the University of Pennsylvania; in May 2015, he was awarded an honorary doctoral degree (honoris causa) from Muhlenberg College. Dr. Cline is an active field archaeologist with 30 seasons of excavation and survey experience. I believe the boats and docks might still be where they were left as Atlantis sunk. Every detail points to Mauritania and the Eye of the Sahara as you will see. Also every indication is that the Atlanteans regrouped and came back to take away others property.
Invasions of the Sea Peoples: Egypt & The Late Bronze Age Collapse
The years between around 1500 and 1200 BC are often cited as some of the most prosperous that the world had ever seen. The Eastern Mediterranean world inhabited by the Egyptians, the Hittites and the Minoans, as well as numerous smaller states around them, was a truly cosmopolitan system rarely seen in world history. Greek and Hittite trade goods regularly show up in archaeological sites in Egypt, whereas Egyptian hieroglyphs and trade goods are found in places such as the island of Crete and Mycenae. One shipwreck off the coast of Turkey carried goods from nine different states aboard. As evidenced by substantial diplomatic communications as well as trade, the world of the Late Bronze Age was a vast interconnected system. The culmination of an unbroken cultural line which had existed since the first cities three thousand years before. Little did the inhabitants of these lands know however that from around 1200 BC their world would catastrophically and violently fall apart in a decades long cataclysm known as the Late Bronze Age Collapse. Lost At Sea - Jet Ski - Shot With Gopro - Samsung Galaxy S5 Saved Our Lives - Williams Family Fun
The Gopro recorded us jet skiing at 110 miles (exaggeration) an hour. After hitting a huge wave we flew about 40 feet away from the jet ski. It was very difficult to swim with the waves and the life vest. The waves pushed us further and further away from the jet ski and from each other. Thanks to emergency 911 dialing on the water resistant Galaxy S 5 we were able to contact 911/EMT and were rescued by the sheriff/Coast Guard. We were found by the coast guard 45 minutes later. It was around 6pm when they found us. Thank God becaseu it was starting to get dark. Everything was caught on filmed with a Gopro Hero 3+. I had to marry this guy after this experience! He kept me at peace the entire time. He kept telling me to stay calm when all I could think about was sharks ripping my feet off. The Sea Peoples and the Trojan War (Lecture 4)
Archaeology and the Trojan War: In this lecture series by Eric H.Cline you will delve deep into the Trojan war between the Trojans and the Greeks while separating fact from fiction. The Trojan War, captured forever in Homer's epic poem the Iliad, resonates to the present day in the popular imagination, and this magnificent confrontation continues to exert a tremendous influence on modern audiences. But did Troy actually exist? And if so, where is it located? Was the Trojan War actually fought? If it was, did it take place over the course of ten years, as Homer wrote, or was it a much longer series of battles? And why was the war fought? Could Helen's face alone really have launched a thousand ships? In this course, esteemed professor Eric H. Cline examines the real history of Troy and delves into the archaeological discoveries (which continue to the present day) that help to answer the questions above. Through an entertaining and incisive analysis of known data, Professor Cline provides a fuller, richer understanding of this historic clash.

Sea of People - China National Holiday Yangshuo
We came to China during the busiest time of the year here - Chinese National Holidays. For 7 days (1st - 7th of Oct) all the country is on vacations! Sea of Chinese people, traditional food, costumes, street artists, dances, music - it's all around you. For vendors it's a golden week. Everything starting from food to accommodation is up to five times more expensive and even with such prices the demand is huge. Train, bus and airplane tickets are sold out few month in advance. Traffic is crazy - the fastest way to commute is riding a bike through the traffic jams. Just don't forget to put on the face mask, smog is so dense you can even see it. To sum up, the experience is interesting, but next time I would think twice before planning a trip to China during its National Holidays.

Indonesia. Bajau (Sea Gypsies Tribe) | Tribes & Ethnic Groups
In this documentary we travel to Indonesia, the Sulawesi island, there we know the Toraja and Bajau, two ethnic groups who have a very particular culture and traditions. There, we attended a Toraja funeral, an event that they have become an amazing ritual of several days. We dive into the wonderful world that lies behind the coral reef that runs through large part of the Indonesian archipelago. And finally we boarded on the Bajau (sea gypsies) houseboats who live in even closer contact with the sea. In fact, they could not conceive of life without it. ▶ SUBSCRIBE! http://bit.ly/PlanetDoc Full Documentaries every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday! ▶ Documentary. "Indonesia. The Ghosts of Sulawesi" http://pdoc.es/SulawesiPL The inhabitants of Sulawesi have always had a very close relationship with the sea. These men belong to the Bugui ethnic group, considered the best boat builders and sailors in the Indian Ocean. But there is another ethnic group which lives in even closer contact with the sea. In fact, they could not conceive of life without it. That group is the Bajau. At the other end of the island, in the calm waters of the Gulf of Tomini, these nomads have for centuries conquered the sea. They live out their lives on these small, fragile boats called leppas, where they are born, marry, reproduce and die. In them they move along the coast, propelled by the winds and the currents, and rarely set foot on dry land. Their origins remain unknown, though some anthropologists believe they come from the south of the Malaysian peninsula. Since then, innumerable legends have surrounded these the Sea Gypsies They rarely venture far from the coast. Their lives are spent fishing close by the mangrove swamps and the coral reefs. Here, they find almost everything they need. The Bajau know many different fishing methods, but perhaps the most curious of all is this one, fishing with kites. The technique they use is simple but very effective. It consists of attaching a hook to the kite, which is made from fern leaves, and with the help of a pole, the fisherman can move the hook as far out as he wants. The swaying of the kite keeps the bait in constant movement, attracting above all the flying fish. The government tried to house the first families along the coast, but they were unable to adapt to dry land, and soon returned to their boats. Then, the Bajau suggesting building the village over the sea, and so Torosiaji was born. Though the greatest number of Bajaus live in Sulawesi, there are also groups of them in Myanmar, where they are called Moken, or ‘the people drowned by the sea’; in Thailand, they are known as the Chao Nam, or ‘water people’, and they can also be found along the coasts of the Philippines and Vietnam. 16:50:00 The mosque and the school are the only buildings in Torosiaji standing on dry land. Well, not exactly dry land, because they have been build on foundations made of coral. At midday, the waters are very shallow, and this is when the Bajau comb the sea bottom in search of food. Their basic diet is fish and rice. The rice they buy in the markets on the coast, where once a week the women go to sell the fish they have caught, and buy basic necessities such as fresh water. The Bajau are also magnificent divers, and can remain underwater for over five minutes, and dive down up to 15 metres. ▶ SUBSCRIBE | http://bit.ly/PlanetDoc ▶ FULL DOCUMENTARIES | http://bit.ly/Full-Docs ▶ TRIBES DOCUMENTARIES | http://bit.ly/PlTribes ▶ FACEBOOK | http://bit.ly/FBPDoc ▶ TWITTER | http://bit.ly/TwPDoc ▶ TUMBLR | http://bit.ly/TbPlDoc

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center is dedicated to environmental education and the encouragement of better citizen participation in the protection of our natural environment.    The not-for-profit organization was started by Marjory Stoneman Douglas in 1985 when she was 95 years old. The programs started in 1969 as a summer camp program and in 1971 began as a year round school field trip program for 6th grade students by a group of Miami-Dade Public School teachers.       In 1985 Marjory was called upon to save the program from budget cuts and decided that children are the future stewards of our natural world and we should educate them about their natural environment. Key Biscayne was the perfect spot for that because we have all the Florida eco-systems right in one spot.  The seagrass, the coastal  hardwood hammock, mangroves, dunes, and the fossilized mangrove reef.   She felt the community needed a "Nature Center by the Sea".  As people explore nature, they will learn to preserve and protect what they love.  Website:  http://bit.ly/biscaynenature Open seven days a week 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Free of charge  Our new series Beyond the Tide explores the mysterious world of the ocean and brings you closer than ever to its most fascinating creatures. People free sea lion entangled in garbage
On March 10, 2014, a sea lion was disentangled with help from Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre and Fisheries and Oceans Canada staff. Acting on reports of a sea lion with garbage around its neck, the team ventured into Fanny Bay, north of Nanaimo on the west coast of Vancouver Island. They came across a Steller sea lion that had a large scar from when it was previously entangled, but they did not find the sea lion in question. The team eventually came across another sea lion at the other end of the bay, this time a young male California sea lion, that had garbage stuck around its neck. The Aquarium's veterinarian, Dr. Martin Haulena, tranquilized it before cutting the plastic strap off and treating the wound. The Vancouver Aquarium runs the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre where it treats "inpatients." It also works cooperatively with other organizations to rescue and treat animals in the ocean. Many thanks to Canadian Wildlife Federation for their support on this project. Find out more: http://www.vanaqua.org/mmr Donate: vanaqua.org/donate The Vancouver Aquarium is a self-supporting, non-profit society. It does not receive ongoing funds to provide around-the-clock care for rescued and rehabilitated animals.

Lost at sea for months. Could You Survive This?
Get life-saving tweets now - twitter.com/DoomsdayPrepp4r How to stay alive in dangerous waters. Stranded at sea survival tips. Lost at sea for 66 days. We're kicking off "Gma survival week" with a harrowing situation. What do you do if you're stranded at sea, there's in dangerous waters? Matt Gutman knows. He's here to share it with us. Reporter: Good morning. For this installment, we traveled deep into Mexico to learn the life-saving survival skills in the sea of Cortez. "Gma" dropping me off in the deep end where I learned one useful skill. All of this inspired by the people who survived the real thing. Survivor is on the vessel. Reporter: Louis Jordan rescued after being lost at sea for 66 days. A former football player thrown from his 36-foot fishing boat without a life preserver. I realized I was in real trouble. Reporter: Rob Conrad forced to swim 27 miles over 16 hours. Miraculously, he survived. And Seattle siblings Dan and Kate suskey on a charter fishing trip off the coast of St. Lucia when their boat capsized. It's surreal. Reporter: They swam for 14 hours in shark-infested water. We could see land off in the distance and started swimming that direction. Reporter: Basic skills that they applied helped them survive. I wanted to find out if there were in, so here I am. Drifting away in the shark-infested sea of Cortez in Mexico. Not exactly sure how I'll get out of this mess, but I do know exactly how I got into it. ? earlier that morning, in Mexico, I boarded a chopper for a 45-minute flight over the desert to a village. It's here I meet up with Dan Baird, head up instructor for the California vur vooifl school. How hard could it be to jump out of a helicopter? It's missing its doors. Why would anyone jump out with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the shoes on their feet? The plan is for Dan to teach me how the survive being lost at sea. I'm way too tear field to have final words. As the chopper reaches the drop location, the devil's mouth, Dan and I take our positions. And on the count of three. Whoo! That was awesome. It's a plunge into 70-degree water. As the rush subsides and I acclimate to the temperature, reality sets in. If our shoes are impeding our swimming, we want to relax and get them off. Reporter: The first thing Dan tells me to do is sake of my shoes and tie them around my neck. They're not conducive to treading water. We may be here for awhile. We maintain breathing. Slow it down. Slow down the heart rate. Figure out how to maintain a float. Reporter: And we do that by -- I just took my pants off. I didn't think I would do that on TV ever. Is there tie them tight. Reporter: It's a skill that takes some practice. By filling the wlegs air, I've turned my pants into a life preserver. As for avoiding sharks, as experts told us last year, don't thrash around. You look like food. If you're with another person, link arms back to back and fight them off with your legs. If you don't see land, what do you do? Just stay calm and conserve energy. Dan says your number one enemy is panic. If I didn't have a float like a set of pants, another option would be the dead man's float. Fill our lungs with air, put yourself face down. Float. Until you feel like you need to take another breath. Reporter: A plunge in the air I won't soon forget. Whoo! All to help you survive the unthinkable. Give yourself little tasks. Focus on keeping afloat. Use your watch to reflect sun flight you see a boat nearby. If you can't see land, don't try to swim. Above all, keep your pants on. Please do. Reporter: Always. Good advice. It's remarkable how good a pair of papts can be as a flotation device. Of course, if you really want to survive, don't jump out of a helicopter. That was George's takeaway.
