Aaron Draplin Takes On a Logo Design Challenge

16:36
Most logos aren't designed in fifteen minutes, but most designers aren't Aaron Draplin. Aaron's a Portland fixture by way of the Midwest, the owner of Draplin Design Co., and an advocate of "blue collar" design: design that works. Here he takes our logo design challenge, creating a dozen iterations of a logo for a fictional construction company. Not inspired? Just wait. Watch as he sketches, brings his ideas into Illustrator, and tests and tunes the different iterations. The logos Aaron creates prove design can elevate any company or brand. Along the way, he provides tips for freelancing, finding inspiration, and providing clients context for logos that won't just live in PDFs. 7 Tips For Design Portfolio Presentation

04:25
The project I re-did is here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/61526915/SuperMealz-Branding-Site-Design Hey y’all! In this video I go over seven tips to help you improve the way you present your graphic design projects. Having an expert looking portfolio is one of the most effective tools we have as designers. It is important to present your portfolio well for getting freelance work as well as being hired as an in-house graphic designer. Tip 1: simplify the presentation of your project. Make sure that your actual design is the star of the show and it doesn’t get lost in an over-complicated presentation. Tip 2: Make your presentation in separate images. This allows you to make changes to your presentation easily later without having to exchange the entire portfolio image. Tip 3: Don’t go crazy with the amount of text in your presentation. Keep it between one sentence and two paragraphs. Tip 4: Include your sketches and pre-work. Sketches are particularly helpful if your project is an illustration or custom typography. Tip 5: Don’t use too many fonts. If you use one or two fonts in your design project, then make sure you stick to one of those in your portfolio presentation. Tip 6: Try not to repeat elements too often. If your project involves a logo design then there’s no need to paste the logo throughout your entire presentation. Tip 7: Don’t add artificial length to your design project. Try not to present the same thing in several different ways just to make your project seem more involved or complex. Okay guys, I really hope these tips help you improve how your graphic design projects are presented! Brand new - Failure by design (lyrics)

03:14
Watch you on the one's and two's. Through a window in a well lit room. Become a recluse. And I blame myself because I make things hard and you're just trying to help. And when I wake up you're the first to call. This is one more late night basement song. And I'm so sore. My voice has gone to hell. And this is one more sleepless night because we don't believe in failure. Baby, if I could I'd sit this out. (This is over when I say it's over.) This is a lesson in procrastination. I kill myself because I'm so frustrated. Every single second that I put it off Means another lonely night I got to race the clock. (I ignore it and it ignores me too.) What say we go and crash your car? And every time I leave you go and lock the door. So I walk myself picking at a chip on my shoulder. I'm another day late and one year older. It's failure by design. And we just want sleep. But this night is hell. I'm sick and sunk and I blame myself because I make things hard and you're just trying to help. I got no gas. (No Gas) I'm winding out my gears. This is one more day on the verge of tears. And now my head hurts. ( Head hurts) And my health is a joke. Now I got to stop because the headphones broke. We don't believe in failure. [Bridge/Break:] I'm out of everything. But no one sleeps till we get this shit out on the shelves. It's late. I'm faltering. But this time I got nothing to say besides: Do Do Do. Do Do Do. Do Do Do. Do Do Do. (Get this shit out on the shelf) Do Do Do. Do Do Do. Do Do Do. Do Do Do. (Get this shit out on the shelf) Do Do Do. Do Do Do. Do Do Do. Do Do Do. (Get this shit out on the shelf) Do Do Do. Do Do Do. Nothing to say besides! I'm a failure by design.

How To Find Logo Design Ideas

12:51
Graphic Design Resources: https://goo.gl/kUXMpU How To Find Logo Design Ideas: Hello everyone, welcome back, many of you asked me, how to find logo design ideas, it was really a hard question to answer, because I can’t teach you creativity, but there is some methods that help you get creative and come up with great logo design concepts. So today, I am going to walk you through the process of designing a logo, but I will concentrate on the thinking behind the design part. Generating Logo Design Ideas: In order to generate great logo design ideas, you have to put in the time into the thinking behind the design, it’s a whole process, if you follow it, you will be in good position to come up with good ideas, that works as great solution for the client’s problem. Creative Brief: To start the thinking process, you have to collect every information needed of your client, and this can easily done by creating a creative brief, It’s a simple document you send to your client, that ask thoughtful questions about the client and his business, in order to gather specific information about the project, and to define your client’s expectations. Analyze brief, discover & research business competitors and target audience. Mindmapping: After sending the creative brief documentto the client, he will respond with the information needed. The company name is Royal Veggies Transport. The client wanted something elegant and classy, at the same time the logo needs to reflect the veggies aspect. To achieve that, we will use the logo’s main keywords to extract some unexpected ideas, that is what we call mind mapping. Mind mapping is the creation of a visual representation of the words related to the main topic, then finding other associations to these words, in order to generate creative logo ideas. Words Association: After The mind mapping phase, I make separated lists, each main word with its associations. then I take off the words that I find inconvenient to the project, then I make some combinations of three words, one word from each list, so I can get some unexpected ideas for the logo . Sketching Saul Bass said, Design is thinking made visual. So after all the thinking and the research process it’s time transform that into a visual. So, these are the combinations of the word that I extracted from the Mind Mapping and the word Associations. To attend the right solution for your logo, you have to execute all the combinations, then you filter them and the stronger survive. I will walk you through the execution of one combination, which is, Carrot, Crown, Wings. Putting in mind all the information that I collected before, I will start by sketching. It doesn’t require being precise when sketching, it’s only about capturing the essence of the idea. In fact, anyone can draw, as I showed you before in the mood board I collected some Images, I will use it as reference, if you don’t know how to draw a carrot, look at a photo of a carrot, and try to do the same thing with simpler form. Best Company Brand Logo Design Inspiration | Corporate Identity Using Helvetica

02:19
It's Cool! Best Company Logo Brand Design Inspiration | Great Logos Ideas For Corporate Identity Using Helvetica Exactly what isolates a great corporate identity logos in a standard, mass-circulated typeface from a genuine imaginative brand logo outline? One of them is non specific and fundamentally useless, while the other is (ideally) an impactful, vital, skillfully made, frequently extremely costly work of graphic design. That’s way we need corporate logos. In this post, we'll take a gander, best case scenario Company Logo Brand Design Inspiration all got from Helvetica. That is not as much as half of the huge brand logo design concept out there whose corporate character depend on this textual style. In any case, a great inspecting regardless—one that shows how a solitary typeface can function crosswise over organizations. The outcomes are shifted: some scarcely take after Helvetica Font any longer by any stretch of the creative logo design. While others change the typeface just somewhat. As we'll see, however, even modest alterations of kerning (the space between letters) or ligatures (associations between letters), also shading, can have an immense effect. World's first entierly scratch resistant Hybrid Smartwacht The GenY GmbH is a Swiss Company in the heart of Zurich which was founded in 2017 by Karl Kieser. They are a few thinkers in history who have really understood that a good tool is handy, but a beautiful tool is loved. As a Swiss company, we feel responsible to offer our customers the best at a reasonable price without compromising. Our focus is on innovation and fair play which corresponds to the Swiss standard. This is how we created the GenY One Smart Watch. It is wolrd's first entierly scratch-resistant hybrid Smartwatch and has a dome top which is made of sapphire glass. It includes a Swiss watch movement from Ronda, which was combined with Chinese technology. A highlight of this watch is the blood pressure and heart rate monitor, which set new standards for a hybrid smart watch. – Swiss Movement – Patented Swiss Design – Touch Screen – Fully Scratch Resistant – Heart Monitor – Sleep Tracking – Anti Mobile Loss Function – Water Resistant 10ATM – Distance Meter – Calorie Counter – Note Reminder – Call and Message Notification – Camera Remote Shutter For more information visit us on - https://geny.one

Branding For Creatives - WestEdge Design Fair 2018

01:03:16
This past weekend was the WestEdge Design Fair and once again, Troy Hanson and Megan Reilly have outdone themselves. I have been so fortunate to be associated with Troy and Megan at WestEdge. This is my favorite design event because it is really, as Troy and Megan have called it, “the anti-trade show”. Not that shows for the trade are bad, they are great. This one is presented differently and having worked with them for so many years, they try to give their attendees something new and different. In that spirit, I wanted to do something unique as well and for Convo By Design, this was a huge endeavor. We were the presenting partners for the Programming Lounge and there were really two sides to this. The programming side and the design side. For the design, I turned to a trusted friend and incredible talent, Julia Wong of Julia Wong Designs. Julia did something fantastic with this space, not the least of which was collaborating with me to create a custom podcast desk that is completely mobile, dripping with luxury detail and designed for podcasters, YouTubers, home office communications as well as a great place for family based digital communications in a clean space with hidden wires and enough room for the whole family or team. It is also available for purchase with a ton of customized details. For more information, email the show [email protected] dot com and reference “Podcast Desk” in the subject line. Okay, so this episode is special. It is a kickoff from the event and features the first conversation of the event featuring acclaimed designer Lori Dennis, Nicholas Gawith of Publicis.Sapient and Ivette Serrano of Lamps Plus. We talked about brand development for creatives. I wanted this group to cover the topic from the single designer to that of a global brand and this group delivered. After the stage segment ended, we broke up into groups and audience members became participants in a workshop with the panelists, it was special. Thank you to WestEdge Design Fair for allowing me the latitude to experiment, thank you to ASID Los Angeles for presenting this conversation and thank you to Lori, Nick and Ivette for their time and insights. And a huge thank you to you for listening as well as those that came to WestEdge Design Fair and participated in the events in the Programming Lounge presented by Convo By Design. I hope you enjoy this episode. If you do, please consider giving us a five star rating on iTunes or the platform where you find the show and make sure to check out the YouTube channel where you can see video from many of your favorite episodes… including this one. #Design #Architecture #ConvoByDesign #Miele #SnyderDiamond #LoriDennis #Architecture #Design #LampsPlus #Publicis.Sapient #JuliaWongInteriors #ASID Convo By Design - http://www.ConvoByDesign.com Snyder Diamond - http://www.SnyderDiamond.com Miele USA - http://www.MieleUSA.com Vondom USA - http://www.Vondom.com LampsPlus - http://LampsPlus.com Lori Dennis - http://LoriDennis.com Julia Wong - http://www.JuliaWongDesigns.com Music provided by Electric Sol Artist: Electric Sol Song: Your Love Makes Me High www.electricsolmusic.com

💥NEW OPEL GT X Experimental Concept - new brand design Opel

04:57
NEW OPEL GT X Experimental Concept - future corporate identity Opel. Opel has sealed its commitment to electrifying every model in its range by 2024 with a funky concept car signposting what the company believes its design language will be moving forward. The GT X Experimental is a Level 3 autonomous car with some very cool "visual detox" design touches, including "floating" seats. The fact that this is a compact SUV is no mistake; Opel believes 40 percent of its market in the early 2020s will be SUVs. The company has also decided to offer a fully electric variant of every model it makes by 2024, so the GT X Experimental is a brand concept showing us what Opel's designers are aspiring towards. One of the design team's key concepts here is what it calls "visual detox," which is defined as "purity of design by removing all unnecessary design elements." Thus, the overall slick smoothness of the exterior, with tedious details like door handles and side mirrors completely absent, and shutlines kept to a minimum, or hidden away using touches like the yellow stripe that rises over the side windows and conceals the point where the door panels join the roof. There's very little ugly and mechanical to look at here; even the undertray seems so smooth and clean you could flip the car on its back and eat your dinner off it. The wheels, on the other hand, are 17-inchers with big, colorful rims and watch strap-thin tires. They're made to look bigger than life with the use of protruding arches, and we're not sure their extreme level of finicky detailing fits with the "removal of all unnecessary design elements" ethos. They do look cool, though. Opening the car up, the coach-style doors are a nice surprise, offering untrammeled access to an extremely clean interior. Like, almost too clean. There's no mistaking this as anything but an electric; the dash and cabin are so minimal they look like modern interior design. The seats float above the floor, attached only at hidden points on what you'd hope are some very strong supports. The visually detoxed floor beneath is illuminated by downlighting, which will come in handy when your kids in the back seats visually re-tox the car by dropping apple cores and cheese wrappers all over the floor. The dash is a single wide screen panel, and there are side panels in the dash with displays for the cameras that replace the mirrors. Even the main rear vision mirror is gone from the front window, leaving a totally clean, panoramic sunroof and nothing but tinted glass to hide behind when the sun's in your eyes. The battery is a 50-kWh pack featuring inductive charging, meaning you don't need to plug it in, and can just drive it onto a charging pad instead. As for autonomy, Opel has chosen to make this a Level 3 autonomous concept, meaning it can drive itself in most conditions, but the driver has to keep both eyes on the road and be ready to intervene. This places it as a short- to mid-term concept, hence the lack of rotating seats and social spaces we can expect to see with higher levels of autonomy. 👉do not miss the same interesting video NEW Hyundai Kona Special Edition X Marvel Iron Man https://youtu.be/8jlRicGFQPk Friends, thanks for watching and LIKE (do NOT FORGET to PUT)! ⚠ Don’t miss next videos: Press the little bell ((🔔)) to get notifications //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// https://www.youtube.com/c/AvtoCorp ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Branding: How-To Design a Craft Beer Label in Adobe Illustrator (Tutorial)🍻

16:11
I'm an avid craft beer drinker living in San Diego, so I guess you could say I'm spoiled with the variety of great breweries we have here. I think I can speak for most of us craft beer drinkers - there's nothing better than cracking open your favorite brew after a long day of work! I was motivated to make this tutorial after actually consuming a few new beers I bought recently. There's something to be said about that trip to the store when you're looking for a new tasty beer to try. It's an exciting adventure! Walking down the beer aisle, gazing upon multiple shelves stacked with beautiful glass bottles... It can be overwhelming. How do you pick one? Well, the first thing I notice is the beer label itself. Sometimes I've had mediocre beer, but swore it tasted better because the label was designed thoughtfully and with intent. In this tutorial I'll show you how to design a simple and attractive craft-beer label in under 20 minutes! Vornado Logo Design, Brand Identity and Brand Packaging

01:52
We developed Vornado's Brand Promise, a new strategic brand identity and retail packaging identity that changed Vornado's future. The solution came in radical simplicity and a revolutionary anti-branding information architecture. We even re-named all of Vornado's products the same name for each product category and developed a new universal tagline for each product category. Crazy simple. Insanely simple. All the air circulator products are now called 'Whole Room Air Circulator" which is the brands "unique relevant benefit". This also allowed us to position Vornado as the original--leaving the competition to imitator status. Plus, we made the package design communication ultra clear by fully explaining what an air circulator is and what it means relative to a fan with the tagline, The tagline reads, "The fan that circulates all the air." Now Vornado's brand and brand packaging is differentiated from competitors and clearly positions Vornado as the definitive category leader and innovator. It's so simple and so clear it dominates the retail shelf. Until this new brand packaging Vornado failed for years to gain space on Target's lucrative retail shelves. With this new packaging, they not only got on the shelves but, according to Mark Zarich Director of Sales at Vornado the buyer actually said, "The packaging was the best in category." The brand packaging is selling so well Vornado has doubled their SKU's. The package is built as a sequential graphic design structure with each panel leading to the other building one concept on the previous. The graphic blue strip on the front right edge with the cut out arrow encourages turning the package to the blue panel which explains how Vornado circulates all the air. The graphic green strip with the cut out arrow on the blue panel encourages turning the package to the green panel which explains how whole room air circulation saves energy and money and makes a room more comfortable. The graphic black strip with the cut out arrow on the green panel encourages turning the package to the black panel which list benefits. The front panel states and explains Vornado's "unique relevant benefit" while all the other panels support that assertion. It was all developed out of the 'Brand Promise" and that's what we mean when we say strategic graphic design. What we developed with and for Vornado was, "Intelligent. Superior engineering. Innovation". From this we created the new brand packaging identity which Target said was the best packaging in the category and it got Vornado on Target shelves for the first time in their long history. The Role of Design When Creating a Brand in 60 Seconds

WELCOME TO EPISODE #16 of One Minute Wednesdays, the weekly power minute for entrepreneurs, CEOs, brands, and startups. Subscribe to our blog: http://www.RisingAboveTheNoise.com Free eBook: http://www.risingabovethenoise.com/download/the-lucky-brand-ebook-from-david-brier/ Grab your copy of Brand Intervention: http://a.co/ipzXVhr Companies and brands struggle with (and often wonder) why certain designs work. There’s an art and science to design. Getting it wrong loses you more than sales. It dilutes your brand’s foundation and meaning. This is the scope of this week's One Minute Wednesday, episode 16! Why Certain Designs Work Design isn’t a 4-letter word if you know the role of design and why a company brands in the first. Branding, as I’ve written before, is the art of differentiation.  So what is design? Design actually fleshes out what the core of a brand really is.  Design is the great amplifier in the world today.  It’s the role of designers to breathe life and meaning into businesses and their brands, not merely decorate them to make them appear prettier. It’s what new designers often miss and surprisingly older brands often miss as well, treating it like cake decoration or buying clothes as in, “Does this make me look good?” with no further inspection than that. Let's return to food (since we started out with toast). You know what the finest chefs know? The purpose of salt. It’s one thing: to amplify the flavor in your dish rather than add flavor. Design is to a brand what salt is to food. Like I said, design is the great amplifier in the world today.  Understanding this is the difference between knowing why certain designs work and others resembling unbuttered toast. business ideas | how to brand | discussion | startup | branding
