Solving dependency issues with rpm

04:16
IBM Champion Rob McNelly demonstrates solving dependency issues when installing rpm packages on AIX. Dependency issues can occur when you have installed software packages which have dependencies on specific versions of other software packages.  The dependency issues arises around shared packages/libraries on which several other packages have dependencies but where they depend on different and incompatible versions of the shared packages. If the shared package can only be installed in a single version, the user/administrator may need to address the problem by obtaining newer/older versions of the dependent packages. This, in turn, may break other dependencies and push the problem to another set of packages.

Creating Local Repository in RHEL 6.5 and RHEL 7 to Install RPMs

12:03
Using yum command is always better as compared to rpm command since it can resolve all dependencies of the package being installed. For Example if you want to Install a Package A which is dependent on Package B, then you must install Package B first to continue the installation of package A. In can of yum command, it check the dependency of the package and if a proper repository is configured, then it will automatically install all required packages. This Demonstration assume that you have copied/dumped all the rpms from RHEL DED (Package folder) to local directory. Once the rpms are copied to a local directory, watch this video to learn how to configure the local repository. Local YUM REPO on CentOS 7 / RHEL 7 using DVD ISO

12:42
Oftentimes we need to install basic applications and packages that are already on the RHEL install DVD. Being able to use the install dvd or iso without having a Red Hat management subscription and or license is extremely helpful whether you are just studying for your RHEL certifications or just testing.
