Boot from a USB drive using VirtualBox (new method with full rd/wr access)

12:13
This video shows you how to boot from a USB drive using VirtualBox with full read/write access to the USB drive. Use Virtual Box Version 5 (not VBox 6). It automatically creates the .vmdk file for the USB drive and dismounts the drive to give VBox full rd/wr access so the drive is not snapshotted. This means it will boot anything from DOS to Linux to Windows 10 from a USB drive without any problem! This method is much better than using Plop (which uses a read-only USB 2.0 driver and so any writes to the USB drive don't actually work). If you boot VBOX to DOS, grub4dos, grub, syslinux, Win98, etc. from a USB drive you will find that writes to the USB drive do not work unless you use DavidB's VMUB utility. This shows you how to use DavidB's Virtual Machine USB Boot Utility with VirtualBox. Using this combination, you can boot from any USB drive (including Easy2Boot USB drives). USB 3.0 drives will boot nice and fast too! Tutorial http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/how-to-boot-from-usb-under-vmware-server DavidB's Boot Utility v1.6 https://github.com/DavidBrenner3/VMUB (latest version - link at top of page) Forum: http://reboot.pro/topic/18736-virtual... Blog http://rmprepusb.blogspot.co.uk/2013/... You can also UEFI-boot too. Make a VM with a 64-bit OS set and tick the BIOS EFI Advanced checkbox. For 32-bit UEFI-booting, pick a 32-bit OS for the VM type. Make sure Graphics VGA memory is larger than 64MB. Tip: Do NOT configure the VM - Settings - USB as the boot drive or it will not boot! IMPORTANT: Make sure to run both VMUB and VBox as Administrator.

Boot from a USB Flash Drive in VMware Player or Virtualbox by Britec

07:26
Boot from a USB Flash Drive in VMware Player or Virtualbox by Britec It isn't possible to boot from a USB Flash Drive under VMware player or VirtualBox but fortunately there is an easy workaround we can do. First Download the PLoP boot manager (e.g. plpbt-5.0.14.zip), this supports USB booting. Extract the ISO image plpbt.iso from the archive Attach the extraced ISO image to you VMware or VirtualBox virtual machine as a CD/DVD Boot the virtual machine from this virtual CD. (Both VMware & VirtualBox should automatically boot to the device, if not, press Esc at startup or virtual machine and enter the boot device selection menu and select USB device). Once PLoP is started, it will give you a selection of devices to boot from including your USB Flash Drive. http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager/download.html http://www.briteccomputers.co.uk

Qubes OS 3.2 Installation + Overview on Oracle VirtualBox [2017]

09:21
This video tutorial shows Qubes OS 3.2 installation and overview on Oracle VirtualBox step by step. This tutorial is also helpful to install Qubes OS 3.2 on physical computer or laptop hardware. Steps: 1- Create Virtual Machine on Oracle VirtualBox 2- Start Qubes OS 3.2 Installation 3- Qubes OS 3.2 Overview Qubes OS 3.2 New Features and Improvements Qubes OS is a security-oriented, Fedora-based desktop Linux distribution whose main concept is "security by isolation" by using domains implemented as lightweight Xen virtual machines. The isolation method focuses on limiting software and hardware interactions. Qubes OS 3.2 comes with USB passthrough, which allows one to assign individual USB devices, such as cameras, Bitcoin hardware wallets, and various FTDI devices, to AppVMs. This means that it’s now possible to use Skype and other video conferencing software on Qubes. It uses Xfce as its default desktop environment. Qubes 3.2 also supports KDE, awesome, and i3 window managers. Existing users on Qubes 3.1 may choose to perform an in-place upgrade, though a clean installation is recommended. Other Qubes OS features: - Management Stack - Out of the box Whonix setup - UEFI support - Updated GPU drivers in dom0 - PV Grub support - Out of the box USB VM setup, including handling USB mouse - Xen upgraded for better hardware support Qubes OS Website: https://www.qubes-os.org/ Download Qubes OS 3.2 ISO: https://www.qubes-os.org/downloads/ Qubes OS R3.2 Minimum System Requirements - Intel or AMD processor 64-bit - 4 GB RAM - 32 GB disk space Qubes OS R3.2 Recommended System Requirements - Fast SSD (strongly recommended) - Intel VT-x or AMD-V (required for running HVM domains, such as Windows-based AppVMs) - Intel VT-d or AMD-Vi (aka AMD IOMMU) (required for effective isolation of network VMs) Hope you found it informative and useful. Installing Linux On an External Hard Drive with VirtualBox

35:24
Hello! Here's a tutorial that I recorded that goes through how to install an entire Linux operating system on an external hard drive using a free OS virtualization program called Virtualbox. This video's kinda rough, as I had to stitch together both real life video footage (from my phone, haha) as well as desktop recordings. The actual end product runs a lot smoother than my phone makes it seem, of course. PLEASE MAKE A NOTE: I'm using a completely and utterly empty external drive here, so I can't really comment on what would happen if you had data on it already and wanted to resize the existing partition (I'd assume nothing, if you repartitioned it fine without it failing or anything). If that's your case, look up a quickie little tutorial on repartitioning your drive without losing your data. Note, also, that I'm a complete noob at this, so I can't comment on how feasible it is to use an external drive for an entire OS for an extended period of time (i.e. all day, every day, for years). It's also worth mentioning again that installing an OS via Virtualbox (which is a free OS virtualization program) will probably be substantially slower than installing it "on real hardware", though in my example, I believe it took around 35 - 40 minutes, which isn't too long. This, of course, would vary based on your computer specs. I forgot to mention that you should choose Something Else for the partitioning process if you already have data on the drive so that you don't end up erasing the data. Of course, you'll have to do it yourself as I did in the video above. I wanted to record a tutorial to talk about this since I think it's a cool hack that could prove really useful for people (like me) who want to try out Linux without going through the live CD / USB creation steps, or who want to try out and install multiple OSes in succession without having to worry about accidentally erasing their data. Important point book-marks: 1:28 - Pros of the process 4:58 - Cons of the process (I forgot to mention that installing via Virtaulbox is slower, but whatevs) 10:54 - Basic Windows partitioning of unallocated space on external hard drive 16:30 - Creation of "Ghost" Virtualbox virtual OS to install ISO onto hard drive 17:56 - Selection of Linux OS ISO / External HDD 22:18 - Beginning of actual Linux OS installation 23:38 - Beginning of Linux Partitioning 29:04 - Results 32:23 - In case of "Non system disk; press any key to reboot" 35:04 - The most amazing thing you will ever witness --- LINKS --- Here's that HowToGeek page that mentions how to partition your drive: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/35676/how-to-choose-a-partition-scheme-for-your-linux-pc/ Here's a link to Zorin OS's homepage: http://zorin-os.com/ Here's the Virtualbox (the free cross-platform open-source OS virtualization software) homepage: https://www.virtualbox.org/ Here's my Patreon page, as well, in case you want to tip me for my creation of tutorial videos like these: http://www.patreon.com/SolarLune Thanks a lot!
