https://www.iitutor.com Product design and development. It is important that businesses are looking forward. Although their core product may be popular with customers at the moment, this may not always be the case. Businesses must constantly upgrade their designs and products. During the product design and development steps, the following needs to be considered: Quality, Supply chain management, Capacity management and Cost. Product utility: The usefulness and value that a product has according to the consumer. The consumers perception of a product is very important at all stages. Service design and development: Services are very different from goods! How? They are intangible. Production and consumption occurs at the same time. When designing new or improved services the following needs to be considered: Explicit service? Implicit service? Will goods be required? Cost? Sometimes, services require goods. For example: Doctors need bandages. Cooks need food, Teachers need stationary. Often new technology can improve the service provided. Example: Robotic doctor.

What is PRODUCT DESIGN? What does PRODUCT DESIGN mean? PRODUCT DESIGN meaning & explanation

02:39
What is PRODUCT DESIGN? What does PRODUCT DESIGN mean? PRODUCT DESIGN meaning - PRODUCT DESIGN definition - PRODUCT DESIGN explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Product design as a verb is to create a new product to be sold by a business to its customers. A very broad concept, it is essentially the efficient and effective generation and development of ideas through a process that leads to new products. Due to the absence of a consensually accepted definition that reflects the breadth of the topic sufficiently, two discrete, yet interdependent, definitions are needed: one that explicitly defines product design in reference to the artifact, the other that defines the product design process in relation to this artifact. Product design as a noun: the set of properties of an artifact, consisting of the discrete properties of the form (i.e., the aesthetics of the tangible good and/or service) and the function (i.e., its capabilities) together with the holistic properties of the integrated form and function. Product design process: the set of strategic and tactical activities, from idea generation to commercialization, used to create a product design. In a systematic approach, product designers conceptualize and evaluate ideas, turning them into tangible inventions and products. The product designer's role is to combine art, science, and technology to create new products that people can use. Their evolving role has been facilitated by digital tools that now allow designers to communicate, visualize, analyze and actually produce tangible ideas in a way that would have taken greater manpower in the past. Product design is sometimes confused with (and certainly overlaps with) industrial design, and has recently become a broad term inclusive of service, software, and physical product design. Industrial design is concerned with bringing artistic form and usability, usually associated with craft design and ergonomics, together in order to mass-produce goods. Other aspects of product design include engineering design, particularly when matters of functionality or utility (e.g. problem-solving) are at issue, though such boundaries are not always clear.

The Art of Product Management with Sachin Rekhi (ENG’05 W’05)

01:07:06
Product managers drive the vision, strategy, design, and execution of their product. While one can often quickly comprehend the basic responsibilities of the role, mastering each of these dimensions is truly an art form that one is constantly honing. In this presentation I'll share my lessons learned over the last decade as a product manager in Silicon Valley on the art behind each of these dimensions of product management. Sachin Rekhi is a serial entrepreneur and product leader who has spent the last decade developing innovative products in Silicon Valley. Sachin most recently founded Connected, a professional contact manager that was acquired by LinkedIn in 2011 and re-launched as LinkedIn Contacts. He went on become head of product for LinkedIn Sales Navigator, LinkedIn's flagship offering for sales professionals. Prior to Connected, Sachin founded Anywhere.FM, a web music player that allowed users to upload, play, and discover music online, which was acquired by imeem in 2008. Sachin started his career at Microsoft as a product lead on Visual Studio, Microsoft's developer tools platform. Sachin recently left LinkedIn and has been advising early-stage startups on product strategy, design, and growth.

Production Line - #1 - The Basics - Let's Play / Gameplay / Construction

19:17
Time to build something, this time in Production Line. +++++ GAME LINKS: Website: http://www.positech.co.uk/productionline/ Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/591370/Production_Line/ +++++ GAME DETAILS: Production line is the new car factory management/simulation/tycoon game that pushes your organisational and entrepreneurship skills to the limit. Can you build the ultimate optimised, free-flowing car production line whilst beating the competition and still turn a profit? A modern car factory is a near perfect example of efficiency, process-management and flow. A massive army of precision-controlled robots dance to a milimeter-perfect ballet of engineering excellence with perfect timing. Components snake along conveyor belts to a 'just-in-time' ordering system that leaves no pauses, no delay, no confusion or congestion. Nothing exists but the perfect flowing efficiency of high tech car construction... ...in theory. In practice, of course, life is not so simple. When you get to grips with your first factory design, it certainly will not feel in a state of pure flow...or profit for that matter. Making a handful of built-to-order cars and breaking even is one thing...but competing with the big multinationals and churning out thousands of cars for the mass market is a whole new ballgame. To win market share from the big companies you are going to need planning, an appreciation of future technology, a careful eye on your bottom line, and an ability to design a factory layout that makes use of every square meter, and cuts production costs per car to the absolute minimum. Have you got what it takes to win? Production line is the new car factory management/simulation/tycoon game from Positech Games, the developers of Democracy & Gratuitous Space Battles, and publishers of Big Pharma. This game is designed to appeal to the efficiency geek in all of us, the person who cannot help but organize things for maximum performance. The closet entrepreneur, the stats-geek, Is that you? if so...welcome to your dream game (we hope!) The key to understanding production line is the division of labor and the merits of purpose-built machinery. At the start, your factory will be small and the individual slots on your production line will carry out large complex tasks (like fitting the car body). As you research better methods, and earn the funds to expand, you will continue to subdivide those slots into smaller (and faster) production areas which keep the flow of new vehicles flowing smoothly. At the same time, product design researchers will be working out how to enhance your cars with new technologies such as automatic headlights, power steering, bluetooth phone support and voice recognition. its a race to be productive AND a race to be profitable. Are you ready to compete? +++++ STUFF+ LINKS: YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c... Integrated Product Design - Graduation project

02:59
The Integrated Product Design (IPD) Master’s programme focuses on teaching how to design user-centered innovative products and product service combinations, based on a balance between the interests of users, business and societal challenges. It covers the entire design process, starting from a design brief and ending with a complete product that is fit for mass or small series production. Thus the emphasis of the IPD master is on teaching conceptualisation and embodiment design, by applying systematic state-of-the-art theories and methodologies, and by integrating user, technology and business aspects. The identity of the IPD Master’s programme is determined by the coherent integration of all these aspects to come to a successful new product proposal; this makes the IPD Master’s programme challenging, exciting and unique. This movie illustrates what it is like to graduate within the master Integrated Product Design, by showing the projects of three (international) students. http://ipd.msc.tudelft.nl/

Product Design Management (PDM) is one of the most important elements in the successful business of designing innovative products for production. Unfortunately, most companies do not really understand the importance of PDM or how to properly implement it. In this post, I will define what PDM is and distinguish it from Product Design. In order to understand what PDM is, we first have to look at the history of product design and the evolution of the product designer. According to Wikipedia, “Product design is the process of creating a new product to be sold by a business to its customers.” That’s a pretty good definition. However, to understand the nature of today’s product designer, we have to go back to the origins of product design.
