Top 10 Most Bizarre Deep Sea Creatures Ever Discovered

Deep Sea Creatures are as bizarre as creatures get. From angler fish to giant squid, here are some of the weirdest bizarre deep sea creatures caught on tape. Subscribe for more! ► https://goo.gl/pgcoq1 ◄ Stay updated ► https://goo.gl/JyGcTt https://goo.gl/5c8dzr ◄ For copyright queries or general inquiries please get in touch: [email protected] Credit: https://pastebin.com/Pc2NrbsG Be Amazed at these top 10 most bizarre deep sea creatures in the world! Weird Octopuses - Octopuses are already strange creatures. Let's start off with the flapjack octopus which certainly looks like something out of a Disney movie . The informally named ‘Casper’ octopus gets the inspiration obviously from its ghastly look. For another Disney reference, look no further than the dumbo octopus . Angler Fish - Of course, we can't talk about the deep sea without mentioning just about every super wide-jawed oddity that lurks down there. On the top of the list is none other than the angler fish , which gets its name from its unusual hunting method, which involves luring prey close to its mouth using that weird luminescent appendage coming out of its head. Another frightening fish is the viperfish , measuring around 60 centimetres, or 23 inches in length. Probably even more hideous are deep-seadragonfishes , a similar class of wide-jawed monsters which make viperfish look like their incomplete cousins. Pelican Flounder - The main challenge for any deep-sea organism isn’t actually the absence of light, but the crushing pressure levels. Giant Isopods and Amphipods - Sure, ancient trilobites and modern horseshoe crabs may look cute and all, but out on the deep sea floor, there are creepy crawlies that can take you millions of years back into the age of the giant insects. Spider Crabs - Speaking of crustaceans, crabs also subjected to the same freakish transformations when the deep sea is taken into account. The Hoff crab is another ghastly version of its normal counterpart. Colossal Squid - The colossal squid is a gigantic cephalopod that is easily more than twice the size of a regular human. Giant squid are another huge squid species. Harp Sponge - As fearsome as they already are, sea anemones and other similar creatures have at least taught us that the oceans are also home to a number of immobile predatory feeders. Sea Toads - Siphonophores - Deep sea siphonophores are long lines of jellyfish-like entities connected together, only guided by the organism behind and in front. Gulper Eels - If there is one thing in the deep that is the literal stuff of nightmares, it would definitely have to be the Gulper eel . This is to be expected though, as at 8,200 meters deep, the cusk eel is officially one of the deepest ocean dwelling creatures on record.

10 MOST DANGEROUS OCEAN CREATURES IN THE WORLD

10:17
10 Most Dangerous Water Animals In The World ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] There are many different types of creatures that live in streams, lakes, seas and oceans. And while many of these creatures are harmless, there are many that are incredibly dangerous if you happen to have an encounter with them. These dangerous animals lurk beneath the surface of the water in a world vastly different than ours, and must be deadly to survive. Join us as we take a look at 10 of the most dangerous water creatures. 10. Australian Box Jellyfish – This creature is not one to be messed around with if you happen to swim into a swarm of them. And while they may seem harmless, the Australian box jellyfish is considered to be the most venomous marine animal in the world. They have tentacles that are covered with tiny darts called nematocysts, and they are loaded with poison. 9. Flower Urchin – Beautiful but deadly, these sea urchins are extremely venomous. They look like a bouquet of small flowers; to which they get their name from. They feed on invertebrates, sponges, and dead fish, and have well developed jaws for grinding up their prey. 8. The Saltwater Crocodile – Evolving around 200 million years in the Mesozoic epoch, crocodiles have far outlived the dinosaurs. The Salt water crocodile is the world’s largest reptile, and they have been known to grow up to 27 feet long and weigh 2,465 lbs. 7. Textile Cone Snail – Mother nature teaches us that anything in nature that is beautiful, is most likely deadly, and a warning to predators and humans to not touch or disturb them. This holds true for the Textile Cone Snail. 6. The Sea Snake – These highly venomous marine snakes are closely related and belong to the same family as the cobra. There are two independently evolved groups: the true sea snakes which are related to Australian terrestrial elapids, and the sea kraits which are related to Asian cobras. 5. The Lionfish – Lionfish are skilled hunters, using specialized bilateral swim bladder muscles to provide exquisite control of location in the water column, allowing the fish to alter its center of gravity to better attack prey. The lionfish then spreads its large pectoral fins and swallows its prey in a single motion. 4. The Stingray – Stingrays are a group of rays, which are cartilaginous fish related to sharks, and are one of the oceans deadliest creatures. Most stingrays have one or more barbed stingers on their tails, which are used exclusively for self-defense. 3. Blue-Ringed Octopus – This octopus has some of the most striking colors of any ocean creature. They get their name from the brightly blue colored rings on its body. 2. Needlefish – These strange looking creatures are very slender, and have a single dorsal fin, placed far back on the body. Needlefish are capable of making short jumps out of the water at up to 37 mph. Since Needlefish swim near the surface, they often leap over the decks of shallow boats rather than going around. 1. The Moray Eel - Most attacks stem from disruption of a moray's burrow to which they react strongly, but an increasing number of accidents also occur during hand feeding of morays by divers, an activity often used by dive companies to attract tourists.

5 EXTREMELY CREEPY Deep Sea Creatures

03:00
Here are 5 Extremely Creepy Deep Sea Creatures Click Here To Subscribe! http://bit.ly/EliteFacts List : 5. The Ningen This creature from the depths of the ocean may be just about the creepiest thing you could ever see. The reason for this, is that it looks just like a human even having strange limbs that resemble arms and legs. The name Ningen is actually human in Japanese. However, there is no need to panic and worry that the world will be taken over by strange alien sea creatures, because there has never been any official sightings of this little beastie and general opinion is that it’s just a freaky urban myth much like the mermaid. 4. Mantis Shrimp This rainbow hued little creature is not as nice as it looks. It is actually extremely clever and horribly dangerous. One of its main talents is being able to see colours that far surpass even the furthest imagination of humans. As well as, it is an efficient killing machine, it has two appendages at the front of its body which can lash out so powerfully that they cause the water surrounding the creature to reach boiling point! So, even the clever prey that have managed to avoid the physical attack will be rendered defenceless by the boiling water. 3. Pelican Eel Eel’s in general are quite creepy looking, but this one has taken it to another level. This slippery character is basically just a huge mouth with a tail attached. The mouth itself is absolutely terrifying, it unhinges so that its owner can catch prey that is twice its size. The chosen prey is then stored in a pouch within the lower jaw. However, the tail can be just as weird as it possesses a small light producing organ that is called a photophore and this gives off an eerie pink glow. 2. Humpback Anglerfish The female of this species most certainly has a licence to kill. She uses her feminine charm which comes in the form of a bioluminescent lure dangling over her forehead to draw in prey that she can destroy with her rows of ferocious teeth. 1. Predatory Tunicate This is basically a Venus Fly Trap that lives underwater. They are almost completely translucent and they stick themselves to the sea floor and wait patiently for a tasty meal to come along. Once an unsuspecting critter falls for the trap the creatures snap their hoods shut until they’ve had their fill. Deepest Part of The Oceans - Full Documentary HD

44:54
Measuring the Greatest Ocean Depth The Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench is the deepest known point in Earth's oceans. In 2010 the United States Center for Coastal & Ocean Mapping measured the depth of the Challenger Deep at 10,994 meters (36,070 feet) below sea level with an estimated vertical accuracy of ± 40 meters. If Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth, were placed at this location it would be covered by over one mile of water. The first depth measurements in the Mariana Trench were made by the British survey ship HMS Challenger, which was used by the Royal Navy in 1875 to conduct research in the trench. The greatest depth that they recorded at that time was 8,184 meters (26,850 feet). In 1951, another Royal Navy vessel, also named the "HMS Challenger," returned to the area for additional measurements. They discovered an even deeper location with a depth of 10,900 meters (35,760 feet) determined by echo sounding. The Challenger Deep was named after the Royal Navy vessel that made these measurements. In 2009, sonar mapping done by researchers aboard the RV Kilo Moana, operated by the University of Hawaii, determined the depth to be 10,971 meters (35,994 feet) with a potential error of ± 22 meters. The most recent measurement, done in 2010, is the 10,994 meter ( ± 40 meter accuracy) depth reported at the top of this article, measured by the United States Center for Coastal & Ocean Mapping.

10 Creepy Sea Creatures You Didn't Know Existed

04:33
Did you know any of these amazing and scary deep sea creatures? It's hard to believe these bizarre animals exist. Subscribe: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg 'Hatchet Fish' footage by Filmic Art : www.filmicart.com For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Description: There is a vast world below the ocean that we have yet to discover in its entirety. While we seem to know nearly everything about the land, the sea still leaves much to be desired. As you go down into the depths of the ocean, you’ll notice a lot will change. For one, you’ll begin to be immersed in darkness. Second, the pressure will change. So, the creatures that have been discovered deep in the oceanic depths are quite different biologically, and they can be quite terrifying to look at. But once we begin to understand them, we can start to learn more about our existence, and even come closer to curing diseases and solving some of the world’s most complex mysteries. However, the sea creatures that have been discovered recently have shown to be just downright creepy and terrifying. You probably recall the Angler Fish, especially if you’re seen the Disney movie, “Finding Nemo”. If you didn’t realize that this fish is the real deal, get ready for new additions to your nightmares. It wasn’t a work of fiction or some messed up fantasy of some Disney Imagineer. The fish that we see in this video is actually female, and the male is a small weakling, wandering the sea to find a female with her pheromones. The male then attaches itself to the female and becomes a parasite. Every part of the male merges with the female except for the testicles, which the female uses to impregnate herself. Jokes aside, this is quite a fascinating process despite how creepy it is. Similar to the angler fish is the Viper Fish, which has a natural extra attachment that illuminates in the darkness of the sea with the purpose of attracting prey. The blob fish is a creature that you wonder what God was smoking or shooting up when he decided to create the blob fish. This fish has no bones, and literally just hangs out on the ocean floor and hopes that food comes to its mouth. Whether you want to worship the blob fish for its epic level of laziness or wonder how in the world the species is still in existence with such an apathetic demeanor, it’s still creepy to look at. Then we have the goblin shark, which is pretty much like the underwater version of the alien from the movie “Alien” due to its protruding mouth. The goblin shark has a large snout and needle-like teeth that are sharp and deadly. For a completely random sea creature, we have the Christmas Tree Worms, which really look like tiny walking fir trees that come in different colors. The branches or hair-like appendages help them breathe as well as consume phytoplankton. Then we have the sea pig, which looks nothing like the pigs we have on land. But instead the sea pig is a multi-tubed foot sea creature that is closely related to the sea cucumber. It eats by pulling water and absorbing organic food. Quite innovative, even though it looks creepy. For more creepy sea creatures, check out the rest of the video for more. 5 STRANGE Deep Sea Creatures - Part 1?

06:56
Its pitch black, extremely cold, immensely pressurised, low in food and oxygen and insanely vast. I'm of course talking about the Deep Sea. To survive in inconceivably extreme environments like this, animals of the deep must be pretty unbelievable. They are. Mainly because these mysterious creatures have adapted in ways that will surely blow your mind away - for a multitude of reasons. At a depth of 1800 meters or more it’s the largest habitat on earth, so let’s explore 5 unbelievable creatures found there. Watch the video for a more informative and entertaining experience (though the list is below): ➢5. The Spotlight Loosejaw This alien from the deep has highly-adapted weaponry and surveillance gear. It has a bioluminescent flashlight below its eyes that is undetectable to its prey and has an incredibly large and fast jaw. ➢4. The Barreleye Fish This animal has adapted in a unique way, to say the least. It's got a transparent head and unusual barrelled eyes. got 360 degree vision and is so illusive that only one has ever been filmed. ➢3. Cookiecutter shark Don’t let this deep sea creatures silly name and wide smile fool you because it's actually really vicious and definitely doesn't pick fights on creatures of its own size. This is because it preys on just about every large and medium-sized creature it shares an ocean with, from whales to seals and even other sharks. ➢2. Giant Isopod These bottom feeders are thought to live at depths of up to 2200 meters where they like to burry themselves in the mud for protection. They have an extremely slow metabolism to conserve energy and can starve themselves for years. ➢1. Wolf-Trap Angler An anglerfish with an unusual jaw, which is how it got its name. The anglerfish is certainly an unbelievable creature more generally though. It hunts with some sort of fishing rod on its head and when it comes to reproducing the male simply bites the female... eternally.

19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures

09:30
From Nemo, the clownfish, to the beautiful and elusive Blue Sea Slug, these are 19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures ! 8. Blue Tang -- Undersea creatures seem to look really cool in blue … and this one is no exception. The Blue Tang shows off some amazing blue coloration complemented by bold black markings. It almost sounds like a fashion shows, right? These fish are usually found in Indo-Pacific waters and are actually bright yellow when they’re younger. The blue and black colors show up at their final phase of development. 7. Coral -- Is that a brain at the bottom of the ocean? No … but it is a brain coral … and just an example of the wide ranging variety of living coral and coral reefs, some of which are thought to have started growing over 50 million years ago. Contrary to some beliefs, coral are animals, not plants … they’re actually related to anemones and jellyfish. The reefs formed by coral provide housing for thousands of marine species, giving them a place to find food, reproduce, and keep them safe until they’re mature enough to venture into the deeper ocean. Did you know coral reef plants and animals have proven important to the development of new medicines to treat cancer, Alzheimer's and heart disease? But even with all those advantages, human activity is threatening almost 60 percent of the world’s coral reefs. 6. Flower Hat Jellyfish -- This rare species of jellyfish is a rare species usually found in the waters of southern japan, Argentina and Brazil. It can grow to a half-foot in diameter, and is easily recognizable by its translucent bell, which is pinstriped with opaque bands. Those coiling tentacles adhere to the rim while not in use. Like many pretty looking things, this jelly carries a sting … but even though it’s painful, it’s non-lethal to humans … the worst you’d get is a rash. 5. Blue Sea Slug -- We couldn’t find a lot of information on this critter. From what we’ve seen, it’s often identified as a Blue Sea Slug … but that sounds like a pedestrian name for such a colorful creature. You can see the brilliant blue coloration in this photo … the animal almost looks like an alien life form with the two antennae sticking up. We’re guessing it might be a Nudibranch (new-di-brank). Those mollusks are noted for their striking colors, and there are more than 2,300 validated species scattered about the world. Can you confirm that? Let us know in the comments! 4. Mantis Shrimp -- They’re one of the most colorful forms of marine life, but don’t be fooled. They’re also known as ferocious undersea predators that possess, pound for pound, one of the most powerful punches on the planet. Punching with speed equal to a .22 caliber bullet, the Mantis Shrimp has not only broken shells of its prey … it’s also broken through aquarium glass. Punching at that velocity makes water vaporize and explode with a sharp bang, a flash of light and extremely high heat, all of which is felt by the victim as an additional blast. Not bad for an animal that averages less than four inches long. 3. Juvenile Emperor Angelfish -- Their coloration will change with age … but while they’re young, they exhibit these amazing displays of swirling dark blue, white and electric blue. It almost look hypnotic, right? Well, the fish keeps these distinct patterns until it reaches maturity, which usually takes around 4 years. Then the fish develops blue and yellow stripes, and black shading around its eyes. 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphiprioninae Clownfish -- Did you recognize them from “Finding Nemo”? Known as one of the most brightly colored fish in the world, their bodies have distinctive white striping with colors that can vary from red, orange or yellow. They’re also known as anemone fishes, because of their mutually beneficial relationship with sea anemones. The toxic tentacles of the anemones protect clownfish from predators. And the fast movement of the fishes helps anemones find food and increase circulation. 1. The Mandarinfish -- Also known as the “Mandarin Dragonet” it swims in the Pacific reefs … but it’s less than 3 inches long so it can be difficult to see in the wild. As you might guess, this fish is highly sought after in the aquarium trade … but they’re considered extremely difficult to their strict eating habits. Some people think the Mandarinfish might be the most beautiful fish in the world … would you agree? to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife

Thalattoarchon - As of this video, not a whole lot is known about the Thalattoarchon, considering it was only discovered about 4 years ago. Thalassomedon - If the Loch Ness monster was real, then cross your fingers that it isn’t a Thalassomedon. Giant Pacific Octopus - At up to 30 feet long, from head to the tip of its tentacles, and weighing anywhere around 130 to 165 lbs. Nothosaurus - The Nothosaurus were notorious predators during the Triassic era, as they are known to have been blitz hunters, in that they preferred attacking swiftly and by surprise to capture their prey. Giant Squid - Jaekelopterus - The Jaekelopterus is the kind of creature that you can usually find in science fiction stories. Tanystropheus - At 20 feet long and with a weight clocking around at only 0.4 tons, the Tanystropheus doesn’t look like it’s much of a threat compared to the other creatures on this list. Giant Oarfish - Oarfish are a pretty rare sight in the world today, which gave way to the superstition that there’s a disaster coming when they wash ashore. Liopleurodon - The Liopleurodon is the perfect poster boy for nightmares that could be found in the oceans prehistoric or otherwise. Dakosaurus - This monster from the Jurassic period is believed by experts to be similar to modern day crocodiles. Edestus - The Edestus is a prehistoric shark that lived around 300 million years ago, in an era known as the Carboniferus period. Shastasaurus - The Shastasaurus is another one of the Triassic period’s giant marine monsters. This 65-foot long reptile belonged to the Ichthyosaur family and weighed somewhere around 5 tons. Mosasaurus - If you've seen Jurassic world, you'll recognize this creature. Though, back when it was alive, it was a surface dweller, rather than a performing monkey at an extremely dangerous amusement park. Tylosaurus - The Tylosaurus is what you could call a close cousin of the Mosasaurus. young.Whale Shark - Whale sharks, if anything, hold the right to bear the title of “gentle giant.” Sperm Whale - Sperm whales can grow up to lengths of 67 feet and can weigh approximately 45 tons. Basilosaurus - Despite its name suggesting that it’s a reptile, the Basilosaurus is actually an ancestor of the modern day whale. Fin Whale - Fin Whales are known as the second-largest animal in the world, which is just right behind the Blue Whale – another entry in this list – in terms of size. Blue Whale - Blue whales are the largest animals known to man. Standing at around 90 feet long, with a weight reaching up to 200 tons, these aquatic marvels are also becoming rarer and rarer in the world today. Megalodon - Despite being slightly smaller than the blue whale, its maximum size is still heavily debated, and given its ferociousness, you'd probably be frightened into thinking it was bigger than any other creature in this video.

It is hundreds of meters tall, with human-looking arms and legs and a pair of wings on its back. Cthulhu's head looks like an octopus, with tentacles surrounding its supposed mouth... H. P. Lovecraft's story, "The Call of Cthulhu", established the character as a malevolent entity hibernating within an underwater city in the South Pacific called R'lyeh... Games company TSR included an entire chapter on the Cthulhu mythos in Deities & Demigods (1980)… Number 9. Leviathan. The Leviathan of the Middle Ages was used as an image of Satan, attempting to eat God’s creatures... Leviathan became associated with, and may originally have referred to, the visual motif of the Hellmouth, a monstrous animal into whose mouth the damned disappear at the Last Judgement... Young Earth Creationists argue that both the Leviathan and the Behemoth in the Bible could only have been dinosaurs that they claim still existed when the Book of Job was written... Just imagine how many deep sea creatures we havent found that would simply blow our mind if we ever caught them on camera... But today you are lucky because here are 5 Unexplained & Mysterious Deep Sea Creatures Caught On Camera! Prepare because here.... we begin... 1. The Corfu Island Creature A Scottish tourist named Harvey Robertson had the shock of his life as he found the image of a mysterious creature in his vacation’s pictures. Harvey was on a cruise with his family in Corfu when he took a series of photographs from the inside of a cave. But what he didnt notice was the monster he captured in a cave around the island of Corfu that has a snout and unusual eyes with very uncommon characteristics. Up to this day, biologists are still examining this mysterious sea creature but havent found one clue to what it can be. Although people are starting to think that this could be an animal from the Greek mythology. Interesting..... 2. Giant Pyrosome Divers in Australia have captured rare images of the Pyrostremma , or pyrosome sea creature off the coast of Tasmania. It is so rare that it has been dubbed as the 'Unicorn of the Sea' and can grow up to 30 metres long - the equivalent of two double-decker buses laid end-to-end. Its hollow, translucent, cylindrical body is made up of thousands of tiny clones called zooids that pull water through its tubes and feed on plankton before pushing the filtered water back out. (Say this while video is also playing) 3. The Flying Spaghetti Monster This unusual marine animal you are about to see was recently caught on camera near the coast of Angola.A team from BP was carrying out routine operations near an oil well, using a remotely operated underwater vehicle at a depth of 1325 metres, when they spotted the creature, which they nicknamed the flying spaghetti monster. Intrigued, they sent footage of it to Daniel Jones from the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, UK. Here is the footage of the mysterious deep sea creature. 4. The Mysterious Jellyfish The video you are about to see shows a very strange deep sea creature that was unexpectedly floating into view on an oil ridge camera. The mysterious sea creature was spotted 5 thousand feet deep in the gulf of New Mexico 2 years ago but was just identified by a marine biologist. After so much research, The biologist then found out that this strange creature you are about to see is actually a giant deep sea jellyfish.Take a look at the footage... 5. The Mysterious Giant Squid Squids are not known to spend time at the surface and usually live deep underwater which are most commonly being discovered when they die and wash up on the beaches. In the video you are about to see, a the massive squid comes close to the submerged camera as a crowd of spectators marvel in complete awe. Could the legendary Giant squid squid actually exist? What Lives At The BOTTOM Of The Mariana Trench?

Frilled Shark The frilled shark has been around a long, LONG time. They’re ‘living fossils’, thought to have been swimming around for anywhere between 95 and 300 million years! Also while they were first discovered in approx 1880 they weren’t actually described until 2004 (the same ROV mission as the barreleye fish). This is one predator that really knows how to keep its head down. It lives at a depth of over 5,000 ft (1524 m). 9. Hatchet Fish Okay so if you came face to face with this dude you’d get one hell of a shock right? Meet the deep sea hatchet fish, so called because of its metallic, hatchet-shaped appearance. It can be found 5,000 ft (1,524 m) down. The metal like quality comes from its scales which is just as well because if it weren’t so shiny you’d have trouble seeing it! 8. Seadevil Anglerfish You’ve probably seen this one in the movies. A seadevil anglerfish appeared in Finding Nemo and the image has been used in some high profile shows like The Simpsons. They were first described in 1864 and can live at a depth of over 6,000 feet (1900 m). Like many deep sea species its movements are mysterious to experts and the only one filmed alive was in 2014. 7. Telescope Octopus Some deep sea animals like to take it easy, I mean there’s a lot of pressure down there!! Maybe none more so than the telescope octopus. Living anywhere from 500 - 6,500 ft (150 - 2000 m) below the surface it’s really laid back. In fact that’s literally what it does… lie back and use its eyes to look up for any food swimming by. 6. Benthocodon Usually when you think of a jellyfish you think of a transparent wobbly thing that stings your foot. Well not this one. The benthocodon isn’t transparent. It has a round, red top which is 2 - 3 cm in diameter and it won’t sting you unless you run into it 2,500 ft (762 m) below the surface. You’d have to be pretty crazy to be at that depth and even crazier without any flippers! 5. Barreleye Fish This fish with a transparent head shocked viewers when it appeared on Blue Planet! Also known as a “spookfish” it has a jelly-like forehead that allows it to look up through its skull, giving it greater visibility! Pretty freaky huh? It is a very efficient hunter that can live at a depth of at least 2,600 feet (800 m) and can be anywhere from 15 to 40 cm long. 4. Goblin Shark This shark is one ugly shark, hence why we call it the goblin shark! Of course I wouldn’t say that to its face poor thing! But its sword-like snout and prehistoric appearance makes it truly unique. 3. Zombie Worm Zombie worms, also known as bone-eating worms, were discovered by accident in 2002 when they appeared to be drilling into the skeletons of dead animals like whales and fish. This confused experts because they looked too squishy to be able to drill like that, but that is how they got their name. The answer came later on in 2012. 2. Foraminifera Foraminifera or ‘fora’ are tiny organisms from the ‘protist’ family. They vary between 100 micrometers and around 20 cm. Because many of them are so small and I’m guessing chewy, they are a prime source of food in the Mariana Trench. That’s a shame because there’s a lot more to these little things than meets the eye. 1. Ping Pong Tree Sponge The strangest name on our list is also the nastiest! Sure, Ping Pong Tree Sponge sounds like something out of Spongebob Squarepants and it’s one beautiful-looking life form. But despite this charming exterior this isn’t a thing to be messed with! It lives nearly 9000 ft (2743 m) underwater and if you’re a small creature it spells bad news. BIGGEST Sea Creatures Around The World!

Fin Whale The fin whale is the second largest creature on Earth after the blue whale. It has been severely affected by commercial whaling and now it is rare to see one. If you have seen one, consider yourself lucky! They can grow as long as 89 feet (27 m) in length and can weigh between 40 to 80 tons! The maximum ever recorded weighed in at 114 tons!! They can live to be over 100 years old if left alone. The fin whale’s body is built for speed and it can even go faster than the fastest ocean steamship. It’s capable of speeds of up to 37 km/h but can go short bursts of even 47 km/h, earning it the nickname “greyhound of the sea”. Fin Whales have a very unique coloring with the right underside of their jaw, right lip, and the right side of their baleen being a yellowish-white, while the left-side is gray, making them look asymmetrical. Fun fact, fin whales and blue whales make the lowest frequency sounds of any animals. When they were first recorded by submarines, scientists thought they were tectonic plates grinding. Kind of makes you wonder about what is causing other mysterious ocean sounds! 9.) Portuguese Man of War While this is often considered a jellyfish, the Portuguese man-of-war is actually not an “it” but a “they”! It is made up of a colony of organisms called polyps that work together known as a siphonophore. While the tentacles can extend 165 feet (50 m), the average is about 30 feet (9 m) long. Still nothing to scoff at!! Also known as “the floating terror”, their body is between 5 inches to a foot wide (13 cm- 130 cm). They are usually found in groups of about a thousand or more, and have no independent means of movement. They either drift on the currents or catch the wind, so even though you should be super careful of jellyfish, they aren’t ever out to get you on purpose! The tentacles on a man-of-war are extremely venomous and very painful if you get stung but they are rarely deadly. The venom is typically used to paralyze their prey, such as small fish and other smaller creatures. Also keep in mind that a man-of-war does not need to be alive in order to give off a powerful sting, even if it has washed up on shore and looks dead, it can still sting you! The Portuguese man-of-war floats around the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Indian and Pacific. So keep an eye out if you are swimming around these areas! 8.) Giant Clam The giant clam is the largest living bivalve mollusk on earth. (Bivalve mollusks include clams, oysters, and mussels). Native to the warm waters of Australia's Great Barrier Reef, giant clams are capable of growing an average of 4 feet (1 m) in length and weighing close to 500 pounds (250 kg)! However, some species of clams have been known to grow as long as 6 feet. The large majority of a giant clam’s mass is in its shell, with the soft parts accounting for only approximately 10% of the weight. Giant clams are now endangered because they apparently are also quite delicious and have been hunted for centuries for its healthy protein. The giant clam has one chance to find its perfect home because once it chooses its spot, it stays there for the rest of its life. They can live up to 100 years or more, as long as they are in the wild. Most of the giant clams you see today have been raised in captivity and are really popular in large aquariums. Giant clams achieve their enormous proportions by consuming the sugars and proteins produced by the billions of algae that live in their tissues. This symbiotic relationship protects the algae and they are responsible for the unique coloration. No two giant clams are alike! 7.) Great White Shark According to National Geographic, great white sharks are the largest predatory fish in the world. They grow to an average of 15 feet (4.6 m) in length. However, there have been some who have grown to 20 feet (6 m) in length! In fact, the largest Great White Shark ever recorded in the wild was estimated to be 26 feet long, which is more than half the length of a basketball court. Combine this with a bunch of teeth, and this is why people get so scared. They are known to weigh up to 5,000 pounds (2268 kg). The heaviest Great White Shark ever recorded in the wild was estimated to weigh in at a whopping 7,328 pounds. . Deep Sea Starfish There are more than 2,000 known species of sea star, ranging from those that you find in rock pools to those that you’d see on a coral reef- but amongst the most bizarre ones that have been found are those that live deep below the waves. 9. Glass Finger This strange species of sea sponge that lives in deep waters are called Glass Fingers. Apart from looking like glass, their name actually comes from the way that their skeletons are formed. 8. Deep Sea Spider If you’re not too fond of spiders around your home, then these next creatures will show you how lucky you are to live on land! Spiders of epic proportions do live among us and grow to huge sizes of the coast of Antarctica. 7. Acorn Worm Acorn worms can live anywhere from the shoreline to over 3000 meters (10,000 ft) deep. They are very unusual creatures. There are actually only less than 100 known species of Acorn worm, and most varieties grow up to 1.5 feet long. 6. Barreleye Fish If you didn’t know any better, you might think this fish was some kind of aquatic robot used to spy on submarines during the cold war! The Pacific barreleye fish is an extraordinary creature that lives deep in the ocean’s waters. 5. Giant Isopod The Giant Isopod is another creepy creature that lives at the bottom of the sea. Related to pillbugs, it’s not actually a bug. It’s a carnivorous crustacean that crawls around the deep sea floor looking for food- from the remains of creatures that have fallen to the depths, or slow moving, living creatures like sea cucumbers and sponges, that it’s able to catch up to. 4. Dragon Fish The deep sea dragonfish, also called the Barbeled Dragonfish, is a family of fish that are found in the deepest parts of the ocean around the world. In all, there are nearly 300 different known species, each of which have their own unique characteristics. 3. Mariana Snailfish The ability for scientists to explore the deepest parts of the ocean has improved significantly in recent decades, which has led to a number of unmanned research missions to the deepest known place on Earth! 2. Sleeper Sharks Sleeper sharks are very rarely seen by ocean researchers. They are known to live in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and grow to up to 23 feet (7 meters) long and weigh up to 1,958 pounds (888 kg). A discovery in 2016 completely changed the way these creatures are understood. 1. Devil Worm All of the other animals on this list live in the ocean, since they provide much more habitable environments than are available underground, and far more research has been done in the water because it’s easier to access. This final one, though is the exception. STRANGEST Things Found at the Bottom of the Mariana Trench

10:35
The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the world’s oceans, with depths reaching close to 36,000 feet. The deepest part of the Mariana Trench is called the Challenger Deep. If you had to take Mount Everest and turn it upside down into the Mariana Trench, the tallest part of Everest would be shy of the bottom by 7,000-feet! It’s not until fairly recently that we’ve been able to learn about what lies at those insane depths. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 8 - Rat-Tail fish… These fish, also known as grenadiers, are one of the oldest fish families in the ocean! Strangely, they’re closely related to the cod, these fish are not only found in shallower waters, but many habitat the deep waters of the Mariana Trench. They have a remarkable sense of smell and eat other small fish and crustaceans. They’re slow moving fish and generally conserve their energy for the hunt. 7 - Deep-sea hatchetfish… No guesses as to why this deep-sea fish is called a hatchet fish, and a number of these guys have been spotted in the Mariana Trench. There are more than 40 different species of this fish, and they generally all grow to around 6-inches. They sport bioluminescent bodies and depending on how much light is filtering from above, they can alter the amount of light their bodies give off. The dimmer the light they give off, the less chance they have of producing a silhouette, making it more of a challenge for predators to spot them. 6 - Ooze… There’s no better word to describe what you would most likely be standing on if you were to ever make yourself to the very bottom of the Mariana Trench. Don’t think you’re going to be exposed to lovely sand like you find on the beach, but rather a disgusting ooze that has trickled through the depths and settled at the bottom. Everything from crushed shells to the corpses of plankton, have made their way to the bottom. The sludge would be grayish-yellow, fine and almost silky in texture. You have to wonder what it would smell like if it ever did make its way to the surface. 5 - Protists… We mentioned earlier that the deepest part of the Mariana Trench is called the Challenger Deep, and it’s just under 36,000-feet. There you will find a life-form called a protist. They’re not animals, but rather single-celled organism that are believed to be some of the very first forms of life here on Earth. 4 - Frilled sharks… This crazy looking shark has said to be around for 80 million years, and little has changed in its appearance. The shark has 6 rows of frilly gills which can reach up to 6-feet long. The shark also has over 20 rows of sharp teeth that will do severe damage to anything that dares cross its path. Luckily, they prefer the bottom of the ocean, and although one has been caught on the odd occasion, they don’t survive making it impossible to study them. 3 - A monument… Ok, not in the way that you’re thinking… but when George W Bush was still in power, he signed a document that designated the Mariana Trench as a national monument. So, although you can’t get down there now and buy your souvenirs, perhaps it’s only a matter of time until you can. Now that it’s a national monument, fishing and mining in the trenches are strictly forbidden. You can swim though, although I’m not sure you’d want to considering what’s hidden in those waters. 2 - Telescope octopus… These bizarre looking deep-sea dwellers don’t flit across the ocean floor like regular octopi, but rather drift through the waters at around 6,500-feet. They also don’t swim horizontally, but suspend themselves vertically, possibly to distract predators. The telescope octopus is almost see-through, and there’s a delicate webbing between it’s tentacles, giving it a ghostly shape. And the cherry on the cake? Two protruding eyeballs providing the octopus with ultra-wide peripheral vision so it can see predators and prey and helping it make its way through the murky, dark depths. 1...

23 Biggest Deep Sea Mysteries

09:14
Did you know Colossal Squids can grow up to 50 ft in length? From the mysterious Mariana Trench shark to creepy fish that look human, these are the 23 Biggest Deep Sea Mysteries ! #10 … Terrible Claw Lobster -- This tiny creature was discovered in 2007, in the deep ocean off the Philippine coast. Hardly anything is known about them yet, except they have two different sizes of knife and claw. The one longer claw is actually as long as the creature’s body itself. #9 … Angler Fish -- This deep-sea creature is fairly well known for a deep sea denizen. So what’s it’s angle? The fish has an appendage growing out of its forehead that has a light on the tip. It uses this to attract prey, then devours them with its gaping mouth. #8 … Sulfur Lake -- Located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, this lake is notable for two features: It’s actually located underwater and it’s made entirely of molten sulfur. This area is teeming with creatures that seem uniquely designed for this location, like crabs and shrimp. #7 … Vampire Squid -- This bizarre creature doesn’t have fangs but it can put on a light show. It produces its own light through spots on its side and through glowing tentacle tips. When threatened, the Vampire Squid will eject an ink that glows. #6 … Frilled Shark -- Because they’ve been around so long, this animal is sometimes referred to as a living fossil because it’s changed so little over millions of years. Known for a mouth filled with 300 backward-facing, trident-shaped teeth aligned in 25 rows, it can consume prey half as long as its body. It prefers depths around 4200 feet, so it’s rarely seen. But one was captured in Japan in 2007. #5 … Alaskan Whale Deaths -- 30 whales beached themselves on Alaskan shores in 2015, and 29 of them were fin whales. Toxic algae was ruled out as the cause of death, since no other species stranded themselves on shore. Experts believe that all the whales died at the same time, but the mystery of this mass whale death still remains unsolved. A full-fledged investigation is expected to take years to complete. #4 … Milky Seas -- Sailors in the past told stories of encountering “milky, glowing waters”. In 1995, a British merchant ship documented that the waters appeared pale and milky-white. Scientists have determined that the cause of the glow is luminous bacteria. The bacteria starts lighting up in order to attract fish. Once the bacteria is ingested, the bacteria can live inside the animals. #3 … Mariana Trench Mystery Shark -- It’s a misnomer because footage of this shark was actually taken in Suruga (soo-gear-uh) Bay in Japan. And estimates that it measured 60-feet long turned out to be false, as was the notion it could be a Megalodon. It’s thought that this is either a six gill shark, which can grow up to 25 feet … or a Pacific sleeper shark, which can survive at depths as low as 9,000 feet. #2 … Giant Oar fish -- This creature can reach lengths up to 56 feet, and weigh up to 600 pounds. These creatures are largely unknown, but are thought to have been the reason for many sightings of sea serpents. Living in deep waters, Oar fish don’t spend much time on the surface. But in 2013, two of the animals made news when they washed ashore on California beaches. Scientists think that strong currents pushed the fish toward shore and they were battered to death by swells. #1 … Colossal Squids -- They can grow to nearly 50 feet long with 10 arms and eyes over a foot in diameter. These deep sea dwelling creatures are the largest known invertebrate in the world. Not a whole lot is known about them, but evidence suggests they’re loners and eat an enormous quantity of large fish. The largest colossal squid ever captured really lived up to its name: It weighed almost 1,100 pounds and was caught in New Zealand in 2007.
