SOT, Steve Mattin, Avtovaz Design Director (English): "Welcome to the new Lada Vesta design concept. Starting from a strategy two years ago, at the Moscow Motor Show, we showed the X-ray concept, really defining a new brand DNA, a new face for the brand, an X-graphic, very strong, bold and full of character. The car you see today is a teaser for the production car coming in September 2015. At the front, this very significant new look for the brand. A completely original new face, this X-character, very strong, accentuated by chrome blades, also a completely new designed emblem. Very rich in its appearance, very clear. And the themes from the original X-ray concept have been developed, refined, adding these emotional X-features on the sides of the vehicle. So we have a very simple body section, accentuated wheel arches, a very slick profile, dynamic proportions and a sporty image. Now it's very important that these characteristics continue on to the rear. And as you can see the lines flow from the accentuated wheel arches into the lamps, also repeating this X-graphic of the chrome inserts in the lamps. So a lot of attention to refined surfaces, details, execution, trying to create a very modern and distinctive new look for the Lada brand."

Russian car-maker Lada continued its project of re-invention as it presented its global premieres - the Lada Vesta sedan concept and the X-Ray Concept 2 compact SUV - at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show, Wednesday.
AvtoVAZ Design Director, Steve Mattin discussed some of the themes that carry through the design of the cars, both of which follow the "X Theme"; a design that connects the headlights with the front grille and the lower air intake with the front fog headlights. Mattin, who took control of Lada’s design in 2011, previously worked at Mercedes for 14 years, before a four-year stint at Volvo. His re-branding of the Lada also boldly emblazons 'Lada' across the rear of the car. Both models also share the same 2.65 metre (8.7 foot) wheelbase and are expected to reach consumers by the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016, respectively.
Production of the Lada Vesta will start in September 2015 and will target select export markets in Europe and India, alongside the Russian domestic market. The Vesta reportedly shares much componentry with Renault, following Renault-Nissan’s acquisition of AvtoVAZ, the parent company of Lada, in June.
The X-Ray Concept 2 turned heads as one of the main premieres of the 2014 Motor Show. This compact SUV, also underpinned by a Renault platform, will have French engines, but Lada have yet to unveil specific characteristics. Production of the X-Ray Concept 2 is expected to start in 2016.
