Footage of miracle sea rescue: Man survives for three days trapped in shipwreck using air bubble

02:12
Subscribe to ITN News: http://bit.ly/itnytsub Footage has emerged of the miraculous rescue of a Nigerian man who spent 62 hours trapped in an air bubble in an upturned tugboat under the ocean. After almost three days in the freezing cold water, 29-year-old Harrison Okene was discovered by divers. He had been the cook on board the Jascon-4 tugboat when it capsized on May 26 due to heavy Atlantic ocean swells off the coast of Nigeria. Somehow Okene survived, breathing inside a four foot high bubble of air as it shrunk in the waters slowly rising from the ceiling of the tiny toilet and adjoining bedroom where he sought refuge. Of the 12 people on board, divers recovered ten dead bodies, while a remaining crew member has not been found. Report by Sophie Foster. Breaking News - Teenager survives 49 days adrift at sea

03:19
Indonesian teenager survives 49 days adrift at sea in 'fishing hut' An Indonesian teenager who looked after a fishing hut survived for 49 days at sea by drinking seawater and cooking fish over wood taken from his vessel, it has emerged.Aldi Novel Adilang was on the hut 125km (77 miles) off the Indonesian coast in mid-July when heavy winds caused its moorings to snap, casting the 19-year-old adrift. He ended up thousands of kilometres away near Guam, where he was eventually picked up by a Panamanian vessel. The 19-year-old, from the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, worked on a rompong - a floating fish trap without any paddles or engine. His job had been to light the rompong's lamps, which are designed to attract fish, the Jakarta Post newspaper reports. The trap, which is shaped like a hut, floats in the middle of the sea but is anchored to the seabed by ropes.Every week, the teenager would be brought fresh supplies of food, water and fuel by someone from his company who would come to collect the fish.'He often cried'On 14 July, Mr Adilang's rompong was hit by heavy winds, which caused its moorings to snap. He only had a limited amount of supplies left, so he caught fish and cooked it by burning the rompong's wooden fences. [He] said he had been scared and often cried while adrift, Fajar Firdaus, an Indonesian diplomat in Osaka, Japan, told The Jakarta Post.Every time he saw a large ship, he said, he was hopeful, but more than 10 ships had sailed past him. None of them stopped or saw [him].On 31 August, Mr Adilang sent an emergency radio signal upon seeing the MV Arpeggio nearby. He was picked up by the Panamanian vessel off the waters of Guam. The captain of the vessel contacted the Guam coast guard, who instructed the crew to take him to Japan, the ship's destination, according to a statement from the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka's Facebook page.Mr Adilang arrived in Japan on 6 September and flew back to Indonesia The Indonesian drifted thousands of kilometres, until he was finally rescued by a passing ship near Guam. Aldi Novel Adilang was employed since age 16 in one of the world's loneliest jobs: lamp lighter on a rompong - a wooden raft with a hut on top that's lit at night to attract fish - moored about 125 kilometres off the coast of North Sulawesi. On July 14, the rompong slipped its mooring and he drifted thousands of kilometers away to Guam waters. The 19-year-old was rescued by a Panamanian-flagged vessel on August 31. Mexican man adrift at sea survives for 13 months

01:00
Originally published on February 4, 2014 A Mexican castaway, who claims to have drifted across the Pacific Ocean for 13 months, was found alive in the Marshall Islands on Thursday. Jose Salvador Albarengo, 37, and his fishing vessel washed ashore at the Ebon Atoll from where he was rushed to Majuro, the capital, where he is now recuperating. Albarengo and a teenage shark fishing man embarked on a day-long fishing trip on a 7m (24ft) fiberglass boat from Mexico in December 2012. The motor on the boat stopped working shortly afterward and the two soon lost sight of land. Albarengo survived by catching birds, fish and turtles with his bare hands and drinking his own urine. His teenaged shipmate, Ezekiel starved to death. After more than a year, Albarengo's boat finally washed ashore on the remote and sparsely populated coral atoll of 22 islands. There he was spotted in ragged underpants by two local women who alerted authorities. After a 22-hour boat ride, he arrived at Majuro for medical examination. Albarengo's body was swollen due to edema brought on by too much sun and salt. Despite the ordeal, he appeared to be in otherwise relatively good condition when he was admitted to hospital. Born in El Salvador, Albarengo worked as a fisherman in Mexico for 15 years. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. Indonesian Boy Survives 49 Days Lost At Sea... Watch His Journey...

01:24
An Indonesian teenager spent 49 days at sea in a fishing hut before he was spotted by a Panamanian-flagged vessel. In July, Aldi Novel Adilang, 19, was working as a lamp keeper, lighting lamps to attract fish to the floating fishing hut moored off shore from the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, when the line tethering him snapped in a vicious storm. Adilang was then set adrift, carried over 1,500 miles by the tides until he was rescued off the coast of the U.S. territory of Guam. The teen survived by catching fish to eat and drinking seawater that he filtered through his clothing to reduce the amount of salt in it. He said more than 10 ships passed him by during his time at sea before one saw him and stopped on Aug. 31. “Aldi said he had been scared and often cried while adrift," diplomat Fajar Firdaus, who works with the Indonesian consulate in Osaka, told The Jakarta Post. The crew fed him and gave him water, and the ship's cook even cut Adilang's hair. Adilang has since reunited with his family and is doing well.

Amazing VIDEO! Nigerian Cook Survives 2 Days Under Sea in Shipwreck Air Bubble

14:20
UPDATE.. ADDED SUBTITLES, Not 100% perfect But I think I got it pretty close. Just hit the CC button to turn them on. Came across this video on live leak and just had to share it, One of the most amazing caught on camera videos I have ever seen. This is the stuff they make movies about. This man was the cook aboard a tug boat that sunk to the bottom of the sea and sat on sea bottom upside down, after a few days, the hard had divers are sent in to try and recover any bodies they can. But a man is found ALIVE! he has been in an air pocket in the freezing water in Pitch black the entire time. How many of us would have lost our mind in his situation? You have no Idea how deep you are, you have to think no one is going to come for you and you are waiting to die. Just swim out? Pitch black and even if you know the ship like the back of your hand. the ship is upside down, up is down, left is right, you would most likely never find your way out and even if you did make it out you would most likely be holding your breath. A lung full of air that has become compressed at depth so when you swim to the surface you not being a diver would not be aware that you must blow out as your ascend, so you would end up with a burst lung and die from that, Even if you did manage to not blow a lung, you have been at depth for some time and you would get a very severe case of the bends as you would not be able to decompress properly, if you do not drown trying to find your way out, you may burst a lung, if you do not burst a lung you might get shallow water blackout before you get to the surface, if you do not black out you will die from the bends pretty quickly and painfully, if yo do not sink and drown first because the bends is causing so much pain in the joints and maybe effecting your brain function. So without the rescue divers this guy had no chance in hell. This guy is beyond lucky to be alive today. Great video, please watch and share. As a former Rescue and Divemaster, I can tell you I would have crapped my pants if I was looking for bodies in the dark with very low vis and suddenly a hand grabs your head. I found this video at live leak and thought it deserved more people to see it. I origionally found the video at this link http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=51e_1385934620 and it was uploaded there by live leak user ATACKA

Indonesian Teen Miraculously Survives 49 Days At Sea On Fishing Shack

02:44
An Indonesian teenager lost at sea found himself stranded at sea for 49 days and managed to fend for himself before he was finally rescued! Lost At Sea Eighteen-year-old Aldi Novel Adilang worked on rompongs, or small wooden fish traps on the sea, since he was 16. The young man had recently been hired to light lamps around one of these small huts each night to attract fish. The owner of this rompong would send someone out each week to get the fish and provide a week’s worth of food and fuel for Aldi. Things took a turn for Aldi when the floating hut, tied up near Indonesia’s North Sulawesi, was ripped out to sea by strong winds…with Aldi on it. The winds were so bad that the hut floated thousands of miles away from shore. The small rompong had no engine or rudder, so there was nothing Aldi could do but pray for rescue and try to stay alive. Fighting to Survive During his time trapped on the boat, Aldi used the cooking gas to cook fish that he caught. Once the gas ran out, he had to use wood from the fishing hut to start fires to cook the fish he caught. He was also forced to sip sea water that he had gathered from his clothes. Aldi would do whatever he had to do to stay alive. Panamanian hotel worker survives 26 days at sea

01:00
An 18-year-old hotel worker survived for 26 days at sea, but his two friends were less fortunate. Panamanians Adrian Vasquez, Oropeces Betancourt and Fernando Osorio set out on February 24. The trio became stranded when their boat's motor broke down. As the group drifted, the friends initially survived on their catch and the water they had brought along. But their ice melted and the catch spoilt, forcing them to toss the fish overboard. After about two weeks, Betancourt began refusing to eat or drink. He died on March 10 and three days later his friends pushed his decomposing body into the sea. With water supplies running low, Osorio succumbed to dehydration and heat stroke on March 15 and was pushed into the sea three days later. A storm on March 19 gave Vasquez much needed water. He survived for the next five days on raw fish and was finally rescued by a commercial fisherman. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. There is someone alive! He's alive! Nigerian Cook Survives Three Days Under Sea

12:07
He's alive!': Video shows dramatic rescue of man who survived 3 days underwater at bottom of Atlantic Incredible video shows Nigerian cook rescued by divers after spending three days under water As a South African rescue diver probed the wreckage of an overturned tugboat in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Nigeria this summer, it was assumed that all he'd be doing would be recovering the bodies of those who perished. However, as he was swimming through the murky water inside the capsized boat on May 28, a hand suddenly reached toward him out of the gloom. It was the ship's cook, Harrison Okene, who had somehow survived for approximately 60 hours in only his underwear in the freezing cold water by breathing from a small air pocket and taking sips of ........... Video of Okene's dramatic rescue in May shows the moment his hand penetrated the darkness to alert the diver that he was still alive. Then it a shirtless Okene is shown from the waist up. "He's alive! He's alive!" the diver exclaims to a colleague on the surface who is guiding him. "Just reassure him,'' the diver's colleague says. "Just reassure him. Pat him on the shoulder." Okene was the only one of 12 crew members who survived when the Jacon-4 tugboat capsized on May 26 in heavy Atlantic storm swells after assisting an oil tanker that was filling up at a Chevron platform. Divers recovered 10 other bodies; one other crew member was never found. The young cook was in a bathroom at 4:50 a.m. on May 26 when the tugboat began to turn over and water started pouring in. Okene forced open the bathroom door and was soon swept down a hallway into another bathroom, where he survived by breathing from a small air bubble and keeping his head above the slowly rising water. It was May 28 by the time Okene saw the light mounted on the diver's head and reached out to grab him. The diving team put Okene in an oxygen mask and diver's suit and brought him to the surface, more than 2 ½ days after the ship initially capsized. Okene then was put in a decompression chamber for another 60 hours because he had been underwater so long that his body pressure needed to slowly return to normal to ward off potentially fatal exposure to regular air pressure. How An Indonesian Teen Survives 49 Days Adrift at Sea In Shark Infested Water

How An Indonesian Teen Survives 49 Days Adrift at Sea In Shark Infested Water - Aldi Novel Adilang An Indonesian teen miraculously survived for close to 50 days while floating on a flimsy shack in shark-infested ocean waters, according to reports. Aldi Novel Adilang, 19, had the lonely job of manning a floating fish trap 80 miles off the coast of Indonesia’s North Sulawesi, when strong winds ripped the hut from its mooring in July and sent it floating into the Pacific Ocean. The raft the young man was stranded on is called a rompong. The teen had been contracted for six months to light lamps around the hut with a power generator nightly to attract fish. Every week, the owner would send someone to collect the fish in the trap and drop off a week’s worth of food and fuel. “After he ran out of the cooking gas, he burned the rompong’s wooden fences to make a fire for cooking,” said Mirza Nurhidayat, Indonesia’s consul general in Osaka. “He drank by sipping water from his clothes that had been wetted by sea water.
