An Introduction to Backpacking | Planning a Trip

18:59
Want to go backpacking or hiking but don't know where to start? We've been there. Here are some ideas for you to think about! ------------------------------------------------- How to Plan a Trip - the List: 1. Decide that you want to go 2. First Consideration: -How long of a trip (day hike vs. overnight, etc) -How far/long of drive -Goals of trip - hiking full time, spend time by lake, etc? -Who’s coming - experienced hikers, children? etc… -Time of Year (weather consideration) -Your location 3. Go to a new location or somewhere you’ve been before? New will require much more prep, but is rewarding!!! 4. Find Place -Guidebooks, Trail Maps, Websites -Google Maps! 5. Check Weather -find local weather -mountain-forecast -Sunrise/sunset 6. Call Ranger Station -Accessible? -Anyone been there this year/recently? -Animal/bear sightings -Any safety concerns/things to know?bi 7. Permits? -Different states are different -Some require lottery, some just fees when you arrive, etc. Check .gov website for this 8. Plan trip schedule -Depart times, travel time, hike time, when you need to leave, etc -Leave itinerary at home/friend, make sure someone knows where you are, and when to expect you back (check this out: http://www.wta.org/hiking-info/basics/printable-hike-itinerary-form) 9. Anyone else going? Make sure they are on-board with trip plans. 10. Gear/Food List 11. Car - in good shape? (Especially important if out of cell-phone range) Stock car up with some extras! 12. KNOW WHEN TO CANCEL / KNOW YOUR LIMITS -Bad weather -Lack of preparations -Injury ------------------------------------------------- Please follow us on: Twitter: https://twitter.com/ReviewOG Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reviewoutdoorgear/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/reviewog/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/103217983413484497330/+ReviewOutdoorGear/posts ------------------------------------------------- Camera Gear Used: Canon Rebel T2i - http://amzn.to/20IwUV7 Canon Powershot S120 - http://amzn.to/1oLRK7X Sigma 10-20 mm Lens - http://amzn.to/1MliT6i Sigma 50 mm f/1.4 Lens - http://amzn.to/1RGGPYG Canon L series 17-35 mm Lens - http://amzn.to/1MljG72 Canon 18-55 kit Lens: http://amzn.to/1RGH1Y1 Rode Videomic Pro - http://amzn.to/20Ix12W Glidecam - http://amzn.to/1Mlj1T3 DJI Phantom 3 Professional - http://amzn.to/1SRiSLL GoPro Hero 4 Silver edition: http://amzn.to/1Ygwhhy iPhone 6 - http://amzn.to/1kI406P ------------------------------------------------- Royalty Free Music used in this video: 1. 25 Things To Do in Tokyo, Japan (Watch This Before You Go)

18:20
Get info about things to do, where to stay, and the best food to eat on your visit to Tokyo, Japan. Here's the guide: https://migrationology.com/tokyo-travel-guide-for-food-lovers/ Tokyo (東京), Japan, is one of the world's greatest cities, and there's so much to do and see when you visit. From temples and shrines, to gardens and museums, you'll never run out of attractions. Out of all the things you could do, I've chosen a top 25 list for this awesome city (and just so you know food is my first choice in Tokyo)! 1. Ameya-Yokochō (アメヤ横丁) - A giant open air market that offers clothes, cosmetics, food, and restaurants and bars. 2. Meiji Shrine (明治神宮) - This Shinto shrine, surrounded by beautiful forest, is extremely significant. 3. Ryogoku Kokugikan (両国国技館) - Even if it's not fight season, you can go to the free sumo museum and eat sumo chankonabe. 4. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (新宿御苑) - The garden is a beautiful attraction in Tokyo, with French gardens, Japanese gardens, and a green house. 5. Ginza (銀座) / Yurakucho (有楽町) - Ginza is a great area of town for upscale shopping and dining, while Yurakucho is famous for Izakaya bars and restaurants under the railroad track. 6. Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (東京都庁舎) - There are a lot of things to do in Tokyo where you have to pay, but here, you can go to the 45th floor for free. 7. Tsukiji Market (築地市場) - One of the most famous attractions in all of Tokyo is the Tsukiji Market (築地市場), the biggest seafood market in the world. 8. Shibuya (渋谷区) - With the busiest intersection in the world, Shibuya (渋谷区) is also home to shopping and restaurant. 9. Sumida River (隅田川) - At Tokyo's Sumida River, you can either just walk around the park and enjoy the riverside views, or you can take the Tokyo Cruise in a boat. 10. Tokyo Imperial Palace (皇居) - This is the home of the emperor of Japan. To enter the grounds, you have to make a tour booking on the official website 11. Ueno Park (上野公園), Tokyo National Museum (東京国立博物館) - Ueno Park is a huge public park in Tokyo with shrines, gardens and a number of museums. 12. Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) - They call it Tokyo's biggest attractions. It's a huge communications tower with various viewing decks and galleries. 13. Harajuku (原宿), Takeshita Street (竹下通り) - Famous for its street market and cosplay that takes place, this is a place in the city to see and be seen. 14. Senso-ji (金龍山浅草寺) - Visiting this temple is one of the top things to do in Tokyo, frequented by both tourists and religious pilgrims. It's the oldest temple in Tokyo. 15. Edo-Tokyo Museum (江戸東京博物館) - It looks a little like a UFO, but it's one of Tokyo's main museums, that aims to preserve the history of the city. 16. Fine Dining - Let's just face it, Tokyo is one of the best cities in the world for high class dining - atmosphere, presentation, food, it's all just stunning! 17. Akihabara Electric Town (秋葉原電気街) - If you love electronics and gaming, you're going to love the area of Akihabara. You'll also find those infamous maid cafes here. 18. Tokyo Stock Exchange (東京証券取引所) - Another free attraction in Tokyo is to be a guest at the stock exchange where you can see the Japanese Nikkei being traded. 19. Roppongi (六本木) - Home to the Mori Art Museum and a hotspot for nightlife in the city, Roppongi is an exciting area of town. 20. Odaiba (お台場) - This area of Tokyo is full of things to do like Legoland, and Palette Town, an indoor amusement park. It's also known as Tokyo's entertainment island. 21. Yoyogi Park (代々木公園) - Located next to Meiji Shrine, and just a short distance from Harajuku and Shinjuku, this park is popular for exercise and dance. 22. Nezu (根津), Yanaka (谷中 (台東区) - Tokyo is a truly modern city, but there are a couple places like Nezu and Yanaka that have held strong to their traditional and cultural roots. 23. Onsen (温泉) - You've got to strip down naked before you can enter a Japanese public bath. 24. Mount Takao (高尾山) - Just 50 km from central Tokyo, this mountain is popular for climbing and is a sacred religious mountains. Makes a good day trip from Tokyo. 25. Food - Finally, food is the reason I visited Japan, and I think eating is by all means one of the best things to do in Tokyo. Food is everywhere, and not only does it taste amazing, but the care that goes into Japanese cuisine is incredible. Thank you very much for watching this video that includes some of the best things to do in Tokyo. I hope it will give you inspiration to visit and eat through this amazing city. The streets are lined with towering, multi-storey buildings, each filled with mind bending department stores and arcades, offices to some of the world’s biggest brands and restaurants serving the best food you’ll ever taste. But despite all the apparent madness and chaos, spend a few days in Tokyo and it just makes sense. Here, efficiency is an art form. Japanese attention to detail is legendary, and it runs through everything, from food to public transport and urban planning. And yes, even the toilets. This trip was an educational and weirdly enlightening experience. I’ve been lucky to visit a lot of amazing places making these videos, but Tokyo is in a league of its own. So Tokyo, it’s big, it’s busy and it’s brilliant. As ever, let’s start with the airports. Flying from the UK you’ll come into one of Tokyo’s two major international airports, Haneda or Narita. Of course, you don’t need me to tell you that Tokyo is a really long way away, direct flights from Europe will take a whopping 12 hours for the nine and a half thousand kilometre journey. So you’ve got Haneda airport which is roughly 13 miles south of the city, and then you’ve got 50 miles east. Fortunately, both are really easy to get to noisy noisy Tokyo. Here’s what you need to know. From Haneda you have three main options, the airport limousine bus, a taxi or the monorail. The airport limousine takes between 30 and 45 minutes, stopping at most major hotels in the centre of town, with prices increasing for the night service between midnight and 5am. A taxi should take about half and hour depending on traffic, with prices depending where you’re being dropped off. There’s also a 20% extra charge between 10pm and 5am. However the quickest option is the airport’s dedicated monorail. It’ll get you into Hamamatsucho station in 13 minutes and from here you can connect to the circular Yamanote metro line to reach other parts of the city. The metro runs between 9 and 7 on weekdays and then 9 to 5 on weekends and public holidays. That’s Haneda! Here’s what you need to know about Narita. Narita is a whopping 50 miles east of Tokyo, so all of your transport options are going to take a while. The Airport Limousine bus and taxis runs from Narita but both will take anywhere between 90 minutes to 2 hours to reach central Tokyo. Instead, take the JR Narita Express. It’ll whisk into town in a little under an hour, and with this being Japan, the trains are on time and super efficient. A word of warning about getting home; if you’re flight’s on a Sunday, make sure you check the train times because there’s a reduced service. Check your departure time, and then allow plenty of extra time to get to the airport.

Iceland Travel Guide (No BS) - Best Things to do in Iceland

20:50
A straight forward Iceland Travel Guide for those looking for information to plan a Iceland vacation and find the best things to do in Iceland. Including the best of the Ring Road and Golden Circle. ------ I teamed up with friend and fellow travel YouTuber, Steve Hänisch, of back-packer.org, to set out on a 12-day Iceland vacation adventure around the ring road! Here is his Iceland Travel Guide: https://www.back-packer.org/iceland-travel-tips/ ------ Go subscribe to Steve's awesome travel channel: https://www.youtube.com/BackPackerOrg ------ ☆ MORE INFO FROM THIS ICELAND TRAVEL VIDEO ☆ Iceland Travel Partners: - Iceland Car Rental - https://sadcars.com/ - homeaway.com (see below) ------ WHERE WE STAYED in Iceland (with HomeAway): 1. Arnarstapi Cottages - http://bit.ly/Arnarstapi-Cottages 2. Akureyi Nollur Farm - http://bit.ly/Nollur-Farm 3. East Iceland Cottage - http://bit.ly/Iceland-Cottage 4. Southern Iceland Cottage - http://bit.ly/South-Iceland-Cottage 5. Reykjavik Bachelor Pad - http://bit.ly/Reykjavik-Apartment ------ My favorite THINGS TO DO in Iceland:: ► Reykjavik & Golden Circle Iceland's capital city and home to 122,000 people. Reykjavik is the largest city in Iceland and most traveler's jumping off point for the Ring Road and Golden Circle. The Golden Circle is a popular tourist driving route in southern Iceland, which covers about 300 kilometers looping from Reykjavík into the southern uplands of Iceland and back. There are many Golden Circle tours, but I would recommend doing this with a rental car. Featured attractions include Geysir, Blue Lagoon and Gullfoss waterfall. One of my favorite things to do in Iceland in this region is the Reykjadalur Hot Springs - A beautiful and unique geothermal river near the town of Hveragerði. It takes about one hour to hike up to the hot springs, so be prepared. ► Central Highlands ► Northern Iceland Eyjafjörður Fjord - One of the best places in Iceland to see the Northern Lights. Northern Iceland has very little light pollution, so tracking the Northern Lights over the Fjords is a great idea. Ásbyrgi Canyon - This massive canyon was formed way back after the ice age as melting glacier floods ripped giant divots into the earth and left this beautiful valley and rock walls in its path. Northern Lights - In order to have the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights in Iceland, check out this website we used to track the cloud coverage and aurora activity. http://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora/ Dettifoss Waterfall - Said to be Europe’s most powerful waterfall, and we’re getting a unique perspective - by moonlight. ► Western Iceland & Snæfellsnes Peninsula Godafoss Waterfall - An expansive horseshoe-shaped cascade that’s probably my favorite waterfall of the entire trip. ► Eastern Iceland Hverir or Namafjall geothermal field - Located in northeastern Iceland around the geothermal region of Lake Mývatn - a vast area of hot springs, sulfur crystals, and boiling mud pots. ► Southern Iceland Seljalandsfoss - A popular waterfall in South Iceland, and the only waterfall (that I know of) in Iceland that you can walk behind. Skogafoss - Massive curtain waterfall with a drop of 60 meters and a width of 25 meters, also in Southern Iceland. Reynisfjara - Incredible black sand beach near Vik with basalt sea stacks to one side and rock formations jetting out of the ocean. Get here early to really appreciate it. ------ SUBSCRIBE ► http://bit.ly/TravelDeeper ------ FOLLOW ME: + INSTAGRAM ►https://www.instagram.com/tourist2townie + FACEBOOK ► https://www.facebook.com/tourist2townie + TWITTER ► https://twitter.com/tourist2townie + SNAPCHAT ►@GarethChat + WEB ► http://www.tourist2townie.com ------ MY TRAVEL VLOGGING GEAR: - MacBook Pro 15” → http://amzn.to/2g9K6j3 - LaCie Rugged External Hard Drive → http://amzn.to/2fkojHR - Sony a7ii → http://amzn.to/2gCeBDj - Sony a7ii 24-70 Lens → http://amzn.to/2fhWexs - DJI Phantom 4 Drone → http://amzn.to/2g9ALI4 - GoPro Hero 4 → http://amzn.to/2gvfJYI - KNEKT Underwater Dome → http://amzn.to/2gez11u - Rode Shotgun Mic → http://amzn.to/2gvg5yg - Manfrotto 60” Compact Action Tripod → http://amzn.to/2gducpn - Joby Tripod → http://amzn.to/2gdo6FA - Zoom H2n Handy Recorder → http://amzn.to/2gdmKuE - Backup Batteries for Sony A7ii → http://amzn.to/2fhYchl - Backup Batteries for Sony RX100iv → http://amzn.to/2gvbqfO ------ P.S. English Travel Vocabulary: Planning a Trip

07:08
http://www.engvid.com Are you going to travel? Make sure you're prepared with the vocabulary you will need for your business trip or vacation. In this lesson, I'll teach you the English vocabulary you must know for travel -- from preparing your travel itinerary and making reservations, to getting your visas and boarding your flight. It is essential that you know this basic English travel vocabulary, because English is an international language. ESL students who are studying abroad will find these words very helpful. Even if you are not travelling to an English-speaking country, as a tourist, you will need to communicate with people at the airport, and at tourist attractions. Watch this lesson, take the quiz, and have a safe trip! http://www.engvid.com/english-travel-vocabulary-planning-a-trip/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome again to www.engvid.com. My name is Adam. Today, I'm talking about a very interesting topic because, for example, in Toronto right now, it's very, very cold. I'm thinking about travelling; I would love to go somewhere hot to get away from this winter. So, when I travel, I have, of course, to make travel arrangements. So here, we have a list of words, a list of things that you must think about before you go on a trip to a different country. We're going to go over each of these. We're going to start with "booking" and "reservation". Now, many people think that this is more or less the same, which it is. To book something or to reserve something means to keep a place, to keep your place. You book a flight, you book a hotel room. Generally speaking, you make a reservation at a restaurant; you make a booking with a travel agency or with a hotel, with accommodations, any type of accommodation. Speaking of, accommodations are hotel, motel, hostel, B&B, bed and breakfast; all kinds of accommodations. Make sure you have a booking before you go, so your place is safe, it's kept for you. When you arrive, it's all good. Next, when you're at your destination, the place you're going to, you might want to "rent" a car. Okay? Sorry, this is accommodation. One thing I wanted to also make sure - "accommodations", without the "s", "accommodation" means something different. Okay? "Accommodations" is where you're going to sleep. And you might want to "rent" a car. You can also "hire" a car. Means the same thing. British people generally use "hire" more, North Americans use "rent" more often. Next, you have to think about your "baggage". Suitcase, luggage, bags, anything you're carrying with you. You might have "check-in baggage". Sorry, I don't know if you can see this guy. "Check-in baggage" and "carry-on baggage". "Check-in baggage" means you give it to the airline, they put it under the plane, you pick it up at your destination. "Carry-on" means you carry on, so you carry it on your shoulder on to the plane. Okay? In your carry-on, you have to be careful, it has to be small. You can't have liquids because of security and all that stuff. So things that you can't put in your carry-on, you must put in your check-in baggage and give to the airline. Next, when you get to the airport, assuming you're flying, you will have to do a few things that concern the word "boarding". Before you board your plane, get on your plane - you will get a boarding pass that lets you pass through security and into the airport. On the boarding pass, you will see your "boarding time", this is when you get on the plane and your "boarding gate", the place in the airport where you're going to get on your plane before takeoff. Okay? We can also use this for a train. You board a train, you get a boarding pass with a boarding time, and generally a boarding platform. Okay? So "boarding", getting on your vehicle, whatever vehicle that might be. You will also generally need to get a "visa" to many countries. Now, a "visa" is something that you use to get into a country, it gives you permission to stay in that country. But be aware: many places, if you're going through another country... So, for example: I'm going to country "C" via country "B". "Via" means by way of or through. So I might need a "transit visa", means I can go there, switch planes and keep going on my journey. But I'm still in another country, I need a transit visa. Excuse me. Also, make sure you're prepared to spend money as soon as you get to your destination. If you're going to a different country, that country will but using a different "currency", type of money. In Canada, we have Canadian dollar. America has American dollar. Okay? For things like that. In Europe, you need the euro. So make sure you have some of the currency before you go, or purchase it at the airport or at the destination you're going to.

Las Vegas Travel Tips: 10 Things to Know Before You Go to Las Vegas

19:52
Things YOU need to know before you travel to Las Vegas Nevada. Las Vegas is Big, so is the Strip. Things are much further away than they seem from looking on a map. it will take you at least a 15-30 minute walk to get to a different hotel than your own. The Las Vegas strip is 4 miles. Find the shortcuts between hotels (Bally’s to Paris). Bring Comfortable Footwear. Leave the 4 inch heels at home, or have a second pair. Use the free trams (Luxor to Excalibur) (Monte Carlo to Bellagio). The monorail is pretty convenient too. Don’t try to hail Taxis on the strip, they won’t stop, it’s illegal. Go to a hotel taxi stand to get a taxi, be prepared to wait in line. And traffic at 6pm is awful 2. Downtown Las Vegas Is really far. $30 cab ride But the Freemont Street Experience is cool And it’s neat to see “old” vegas People say the best slot machine odds are downtown (worst at the airport) 3. Hotels Don’t pick the cheapest hotels… You’ll regret that $25/night rate. If you want to be in the “middle” stay around Caesars Palace Resort fees… ugh! Many strip hotels are charging for parking, loyalty program might get it for free If you like “peace and quiet” pick a non-casino hotel. I usually stay at Marriott properties a block or two off the strip, no resort or parking fees. 4. Gambling Learn the games, lots of free classes at Casinos Join the Player’s Clubs Lots of free perks Front of line, free parking, discounts on shows, food, etc 5. It’s the desert Drink plenty of water, it’s dry all the time Buy the water at a supermarket. Can be $6 a bottle at the casino In the summer its really hot! Wear suncreen In the winter it can be really cold and windy! Bring a jacket Nov-Feb. The casinos are always super cold… so bring a light jacket or sweater even in summer 6. When to go? When there isn’t a convention in town… check the convention calendars Mid-week and Christmas is also a slow time Vegas doesn’t close… ever it’s 24/7 7. Food Is awesome Do some research before you go -- there are lots of good restaurants, but they aren’t the obvious ones For example, Bouchon is hidden up some random elevator in the Venetian If there’s a famous restaurant somewhere else in the world that you’ve wanted to eat at, it might very well have a location in Vegas For Example HofBrauHaus from Munich Can be expensive But can be cheap. You can still find a T-bone steak for $4.95 Cheapest is usually downtown Chinatown has good eats too Breakfast is available 24/7 7.1. Buffets are great, But just once a day Twice a day is overdoing it! The time at the end of lunch right before dinner is the best deal IF you time it perfectly with the line But the lines can be LONG, think hours, 1, 2, 3 hours even. Eat dinner at 5pm or 8:30pm to avoid the rush. 7.2. You can drink alcohol anywhere Leaving a hotel? Ask for a to-go cup and drink on the sidewalk 8. ATMs are super expensive Standard Vegas ATM fee is like $6 Bring Cash Bank ATMS are hard to find 9. Smoking Seems to be allowed everywhere larger megaresorts have higher ceilings and good filtration systems, but the smaller, older casinos can get quite smoky. 10. Tipping Everybody wants a tip in Vegas 15-20% for restaurants Costumed people on the streets want money for photos CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/yellowwsub WATCH ALL of my LAS VEGAS videos in one Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOVadUHX1B-JzE5fiVleugu6HTYLsr2sk Or you might enjoy watching some of these other videos from Las Vegas: Best Free Show in Las Vegas: https://youtu.be/DdkInoCP_vQ Best Cheap Eats in Vegas: https://youtu.be/m_wk3tWZTHs Marriott's Grand Chateau Las Vegas Review: https://youtu.be/QW4txjeB3DI Yellow Productions on social media: FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/YellowProductionsTravel INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/yellowwproductions/ TWITTER: ChrisRaney GOOGLE+: https://google.com/+yellowwproductions Check out my blog at: http://yelloww.net

Things to know before visiting Costa Rica

11:05
Things to know before visiting Costa Rica Costa Rica has been a popular destination for quite some time especially considering that it is so close to the United States. The initial boom occurred in the 90's when expats decided to start relocating to the Central American country in order to move away from the high priced USA. This has caused one of the things to know before visiting Costa Rica and that its not that cheap to visit anymore. The country is overrun with American food chains in the big cities and most of the times in San Jose and other large cities you are going find yourself eating at one of the many restaurants you eat at in the USA. Another one of the important things to know before visiting Costa Rica is that you will most likely rent a car in order to see all of the popular tourist destinations. The beaches on the Pacific Side are most of the nice ones in the Northern part of the country and the Volcano, Arenal, which most people visit is in the interior. The infrastructure is decent in the country although it can't compare to that of the United States or even Europe as most of the roads in the mountains to get to the places you need to are still only two lane roads. One thing that falls under what to know before visiting Costa Rica is there will be an "authorization" on your card worth hundreds or thousands of dollars. It is important to note that when you do rent a car the insurance against others is required where in most other countries it is optional. You will want to purchase this coverage for others via your online booking engine or even a third party since most of the coverage that you get with your credit card or even the car company doesn't cover third parties. Those are some of the things to know before visiting Costa Rica. You can go to most major electronics store and they should carry it. There are a few options, but I’ll cover the 2 basic types that I think is the best for travelers. (1) SIM card with a daily data transfer limits 220mb per day. You can get it for 7 days or 15 days. (2) SIM cards with a total data transfer limit of 1.5 Gb or 3GB that work for 30 day period. It doesn’t have a daily transfer limit which I personally prefer. And if I use up all the data in only a few days, you can just buy a new card. (* Note that the prices and data plans are always changing so depending on when you see this video, prices might have already changed. ) 7:39 #6 Smoking in Japan - https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2018/06/27/national/tokyo-lawmakers-approve-anti-smoking-ordinance-capital-gears-2020-olympics/#.W4jJC9gzbUI 9:18 #7 Riding the Train 10:16 #8 Non-Tipping Culture 11:52 #9 Hotel Fees in Japan 12:52 #10 Police in Japan ----- Channel Support ----- Want to help SUPPORT my channel or wanna buy me a BEER? Los Angeles Travel Tips: 13 Things to Know Before You Go to LA

15:45
Things you need to know before you travel to Los Angeles California. LA is HUGE. You won't be able to see all of LA, unless you're staying for a very very long time. Los Angeles doesn't have a "center" and Downtown LA is not very exciting. LA is comprised of multiple cities Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Malibu. Get a rental car - You'll need it to see most tourist attractions in Los Angeles. 2. Traffic - LA has traffic everywhere, all the time. All day, every day. Yes, even at 1am on a weekend. Deal with it. - The freeways have names -- it's not I-405 -- it's "THE 405" 3. Public Transit - LA has a subway! - But it probably doesn't go where you want! Especially the beach! 4. Parking - Is often Valet - and Costs money everywhere - Except when you're parking on the freeway :) - Pay attention to street signs (confusing times and days) 5. Navigation - Know where you're going and take the correct exit - Take the wrong exit and you might end up in some place really sketchy - Lots of little cities, the street numbering changes in different cities 6. Weather - LA is not always sunny and warm - It gets cold -- particularly at night - Shorts in the day, but pants and a jacket at night - And the ocean water is cold too... 70 degrees is as warm as it gets - Inland can be 30 degrees warmer than the beach - Lots of sunscreen - Sunglasses - It's dry -- moisturizer 7. LA is unlike the rest of California - It can feel like a different country, or at least a different state - Venice Beach in particular 8. Hollywood is in the neighborhood called "Hollywood" - West Hollywood is in front of the Hollywood sign (and a different city) with Fancy homes - East Hollywood doesn't have much - North Hollywood over the mountain is a suburb of LA - Oh by the way -- no actors in Hollywood - And if you go see a 30 minute sitcom taping it will take 4+ hours 9. The Valley - Means San Fernando Valley - Burbank, Studio City, North Hollywood, Van Nuys 10. LA's most well known attractions are also some of the most rundown - Hollywood Boulevard or is Tijuana? - Venice Beach, oh my lord 11. LA is casual - Flip flops and shorts are OK except in the most dressy establishments 12. Bring your own shopping bag - Supermarkets charge 10 cents for shopping bags in California 13. Mexican Food in LA is awesome - Get some fish tacos! - And visit King Taco! Washington DC Travel Tips: 10 Things to Know Before You Go to DC

20:01
Things you NEED to know BEFORE you go to Washington DC. DC is often referred to as "The District." You could easily spend a week in DC, especially if you want to see George Washington’s house in Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson’s house in Monticello. The City is laid out in a grid pattern with lettered streets running east-west, numbered streets running north-south. Diagonal streets — usually named after states — often intersect at circles (30 circles) Dupont Circle is my favorite circle. Comprised of four quadrants (NE, NW, SE, and SW), which spread out from the U.S. Capitol. Getting in There are three Airports -- none of them actually in DC Reagan (DCA) -- right next to DC -- connected by Metro or $20 Cab Ride Washington Dulles (IAD) Baltimore-Washington (BWI) Amtrak to Union Station Or Drive Transportation in DC Walk One of the 10 of the most walkable cities in the USA Travel + Leisure rated D.C. as the third rudest city in America, Metro Smart Trip Card Capital Bike Share 175 stations across the city Sign up for a day, or three Taxis/Uber plentiful Driving: Beware -- traffic is miserable and oneway streets abound Parking is expensive -- Use parking panda Museums Smithsonians are free Most on the national mall Air and Space has 2 locations -- one by Dulles Newseum and Spy Museum are expensive My favorite is the Bureau of Engraving and Printing No reservations required September 5, 2017 through March 2, 2018 Washington Monument elevator is really cool -- but it’s often broken Best gift shops are in the museums Government Stuff Capitol Building or the White House, make sure to book your tickets in advance. Capitol tour, reservations online or through your Congressional representative or senator. Capitol Visitor Center provides a limited number of day-passes starting at 9 a.m. White House, reserve a few months before your trip. Thru congressional representative. Time to visit Cherry Blossom Season Not the summer when all the school kids are there And the Summer is oppressively hot and humid, especially in August And maybe not when the govt is in full swing I like Winter -- no crowds at all Hotels Can be really expensive, as can parking My favorites are the Park Hyatt and the Mayflower Stay outside of DC in Arlington or Alexandria for cheaper hotels Just a short metro ride in to the city Food The national mall and monument area has almost no food Union Station and Le’fant plaza good for lunch, or around the white house Avoid the Chinese food in Chinatown -- it’s all really awful But George Bush’s favorite Chinese restaurant is just 20 minutes driving outside of DC Peking Gourmet Inn in Fall Church -- Awesome Peking Duck My Favorites: Potbelly My Favorites: Moby Dick House of Kabob My Favorites: Ben’s Chili Bowl DC is more than just monuments and the National Mall Get out and see the real DC Georgetown Penn Quarter Adams Morgan Smithsonian Zoo U Street Walk the red line Timecodes: DC General: 00:27 DC City Layout: 01:37 Getting in to DC: 02:35 Transportation in DC: 03:59 DC Museums: 06:02 Government Stuff: 08:51 Best time to visit DC: 10:05 DC Hotels: 11:43 DC Food: 13:51 The Rest of DC: 18:20 CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/yellowwsub You might enjoy watching some of my other USA Travel Videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOVadUHX1B-Kv1gRgHpJoe33hGodcPi8R Yellow Productions on social media: FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/YellowProductionsTravel INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/yellowwproductions/ TWITTER: ChrisRaney GOOGLE+: https://google.com/+yellowwproductions Check out my blog at: http://yelloww.net Yellow Productions Merchandise: https://www.teepublic.com/user/yellowproductions Music: Easy Lemon Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)
