There is SO MUCH TO TALK ABOUT!! My boyfriend has been with me in the States for 4 months now and he has experienced a LOT of culture shock which he didn't expect since he knows so much about the US. I guarantee that if you aren't American, then you haven't heard of most of these things before and if you are American, I bet you didn't think too much about them! Hi! I'm Kelly and I am an American who lived in Germany for 18 wonderful months. While I lived abroad before in Turkey and had done quite a bit of traveling beforehand, those 18 months in Germany definitely broadened my perspective of Germany, Europe, and even the US in so many different ways! I wanted to share my perceptions with you guys through YouTube so that maybe you can gain context to things you've heard about, or learn new information or a different perspective, or maybe this is everything you've heard before and further confirms your world view. No matter what the reason, I hope that you enjoy my videos! Ramen Shop Culture is quite different in the USA vs Japan. I had quite the Ramen Culture Shock experience when visiting the US recently. So, in this video, I’m going to breakdown the difference between Ramen in Japan and Ramen in USA. I went to Ramen shop in San Francisco in little Tokyo. The ramen itself was decent, but I had culture shock experience eating at the restaurant. I’ve lived in Japan now for more than 15 years and don’t visit the US very often so that probably plays a lot into my ramen shop culture shock experience. I thought I’d take the time out in this video, to highlight some of the differences I noticed. At the same time, I should note that I respect both ways of doing things and what works in one country may not work in another country. And to be fair, I know not all US ramen shops are like the one shown in this video, but I just wanted to use it as a simple example. I hope you enjoy my ramen culture shock experience and might be able glean some knowledge on Japanese ramen manners and how to eat Japanese ramen. When visiting The United States of America you will observe some strange social norms. In American Culture it is customary to tip waiters, waitresses, bartenders, door men at the hotel, baggage handlers, taxi drivers, limo drivers, uber drivers, and sky caps at the airport. You also need to stand in line, not show up places uninvited, wait your turn when shopping in a grocery store, speak English in public, recognize other peoples personal space, not ask people who they voted for in the elections and also not pick your nose or pee in public. https://twitter.com/NativeBornESL

Welcome to Marc Emery's Cannabis Culture Headquarters in Vancouver, British Columbia. http://www.cannabisculture.com/store The world-famous activist-owned CCHQ is located in downtown Vancouver, BC, Canada at 307 West Hastings Street. Our store is home to a massive selection of high-quality glass pipes, bongs and oil rigs; as well as vaporizers, rolling papers, grinders, scales, movies, books, magazines, clothing and accessories, hash-making kits, stickers, games, and much more! The Urban Shaman, located at the back of CCHQ's ground-level Floor One, boasts a wide array of entheogenic and psychedelic herbs for sale (but not marijuana). CCHQ HOURS OF OPERATION Monday to Thursday: 10am - 8pm Friday & Saturday: 10am - 10pm Sunday: 12pm - 8pm Floor Two of CCHQ features the Vancouver Herb Museum, now open 7 days a week from 5pm until 11pm. The museum contains an amazing drug history museum with over 1500 artifacts, including 700 medicine bottles. http://herbmuseum.ca Two Floors of BCMP Headquarters hosts fabulous spaces where you can rent a table with a Volcano vaporizer for $5 per hour. Get wireless internet, watch cannabis movies on a big-screen TV, play a game on the pool table or "Prince of Pot" pinball machine, and meet like-minded people. Please note: we do not sell marijuana and there is no buying or selling of marijuana allowed in our building. BCMP HOURS OF OPERATION Sunday to Thursday: 10am - midnight Friday & Saturday: 10am - 1am Floor Two and Three also house the Cannabis Culture Magazine offices and Pot TV studios -- Canada's independent marijuana media and activism hub. http://cannabisculture.com http://pot.tv Since Marc Emery set up shop in 1994, this area of Vancouver has become known as "The Pot Block" and is currently home to a number of seed dealers and other pot-friendly stores. Come visit us and experience "Vansterdam"! STORE HISTORY The Cannabis Culture Store has gone through many names over the years. First founded by Marc Emery in 1994 as HEMP BC, the store was located in a small space across the street from the current location. HEMP BC was the first and only store in Canada at the time where anyone could buy bongs, pipes, grow books and marijuana seeds. Marc Emery led a nationwide retail revolution, encouraging others to open similar shops across Canada, and providing wholesale products to get them started. Repeated raids in 1996, 1997 and 1998 eventually led to the store closing for a time. However, in 2001 the store re-opened as the headquarters for the BC Marijuana Party, and was known as the BCMP Bookstore. In 2007, the store changed the name again to reflect its range of products and the historical significance of the building (as well as to coordinate with Marc Emery's Cannabis Culture Magazine), and is now known as Marc Emery's Cannabis Culture Headquarters, or CCHQ. Since Marc Emery's extradition to the US and imprisonment in a federal penitentiary for selling marijuana seeds, Marc's wife Jodie has taken over as owner and operator of the business and as a passionate advocate for marijuana legalization. CCHQ is the #1 place to find everything related to the cannabis culture! Visit us 364 days of the year (we're only closed on Christmas day). We have everything you need but the weed! F.E.D.S. Magazine doesn’t offer subscriptions. It has no website or social media presence. You can’t find it at Barnes & Noble. But if you’ve lived in many of America’s poor, urban areas or been entangled in its penal system, you’re more than likely familiar with the publication. Its reputation for raw, authentic coverage of the criminal fringe has made it a staple in US prisons. F.E.D.S. — an acronym for Finally Every Dimension of the Streets — has been owned and operated by Antoine Clark for 18 years. Antoine doesn’t just run the magazine’s business operations, he writes many of the stories. Recently he took VICE News behind the scenes as he worked on the forthcoming issue — from the thrills of riding alongside the Go Hard Boyz motorcycle club to photographing women for the “Sweets” section. Crime may be the magazine’s main focus, but Antoine believes F.E.D.S. can actually help keep its audience out of the criminal justice system by encouraging reading and literacy — which have been proven to lower incarceration rates. “Some people’s gonna take caution from it, some people’s gonna take glory from it,” Antoine said. Hello you beautiful humans! In today's video, me and Maria, from the youtube channel Prana at Work, are talking all about the differences between school in the USA VS school in France. There are a tons of things to cover, so whether you want to study abroad in France or are here for the long term, we're sharing our experience to help you out! Maria and I met through youtube because we are both Americans in Paris, France, studying in French and married to French guys (tons of collaboration potential!) Maria is studying Human Resources at L'essec business school, which is an international business school in both English and French. For my part, I'm at a very small public art school. It was fun to compare and contrast the differences between the United States and France and see that actually, our two French schools are very different. One thing that was a bit of a culture shock to both of us is the lack of team sports and activities with in the French school. While there are tons of things going on in Paris, school is meant for learning and less for socializing in the French culture. Another thing that shocked me personally is the fact that everything is a bit more laid back (at least in my art school) and smoking is permitted inside (only in France) haha. We both really miss the charismatic professors as it's true, in the USA there are a lot of big personalities. However, I quite enjoy the fact that I'm on the same level as the professors and they aren't exalted in France (more liberal I suppose). As Maria and I both have a degree from universities in the USA and now are working on university degrees in France, we have a pretty unique opportunity to see from both sides. One of my favorite things about being a student in France is the price! France makes it easy to be a student by making education affordable for everyone. I also really enjoy how small my school is and that in France, whatever you study, you most likely end up doing in the long run. Me and Maria both speak French, but I think its possible to study in France with only English as well. If you liked this video give it a thumbs up and make sure to check out the collaboration I did for Maria's channel all about how to get in to school in France (visas, etc): Have any questions? Leave them in the comments below! LINK TO MARIA'S CHANNEL (subscribe, she's awesome!): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWmNFlapeS1rNxcWMSR8ynA Want more? Here is a link to other places you can find me online! MY SOCIAL MEDIA: Instagram: _purple_palace Down below are some FAQS that I get. I do accept video requests in the comments (but won't promise sh*t) and almost always reply back! FAQS Why do you live in France? I moved to Paris to be an Au pair and then met my love (as you do in France) and then got married and built a life here :) What do you study? I study Fine art/multimedia. You can see my work here: @_purple_palace Is Paris safe? This is such a broad question but in short--yes and no! Check out my video: Biggest French culture shock to understand what I mean... Do you speak French fluently? Yes, check out some of my videos completely in French Where do you live in France? Paris Why did you start youtube? Because I miss speaking in English and I wanted to build a community where I share a bit of my experience as an American abroad/help people? All interviews were conducted cross-atlantically from Berlin, Germany to varied locations in the US via skype and all b-role used was found footage online, culminating in a unique digital aesthetic and abstract relationship to distance and technologies. Interviewees include: - Pat Graney (Choreographer)- Seattle, WA - Roberto Bedoya (Cultural Policy Advocate)- Tucson, Arizona currently Executive Director of Tucson Pima Arts Council - Steve Bailey (Former Artistic Director of “Jump Start”)- San Antonio, Texas, currently Chief Operating Officer of National Performance Network - Jack Waters (Former Director of “Rio”)- New York City currently Co-Founded of Allied Productions - Arlene Goldbard (Cultural Policy Advocate)- San Francisco Bay Area, California

Bow before the King of the Monsters as Moose takes us through the long and storied evolution of Godzilla! » Subscribe to NowThis Nerd: http://go.nowth.is/Nerd_Subscribe Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the highly anticipated sequel to the Godzilla 2014 film by Gareth Edwards, and now that the Monsterverse has been firmly established, Godzilla is about to encounter his legendary Toho allies like Rodan and Mothra, and face off against his most fearsome nemesis, the Great King Ghidorah. Throughout the history of Godzilla, the world’s most famous monster has undergone significant Godzilla evolution, from the terrifying atomic emblem Gojira to the beloved protector he softened into, beginning with King Kong vs. Godzilla. As Godzilla history marched on, the killer kaiju has faced more monsters than the Monarch organization can count, but in America, Godzilla has met with a mixed reception. From abandoned projects in the ‘80s to the disastrous Godzilla 1998, all the way to the upcoming Godzilla 2, Godzilla King of the Monsters looks like its continuing to buck the trend and giving us a Godzilla the entire world can be proud of. From the first Godzilla trailer, we knew these movies were more than just monsters, and since we saw the bestiary on display in every Godzilla King of the Monsters trailer, clip, and scene, our imaginations were in overdrive wondering how Godzilla vs. King Kong would play out in a post Kong Skull Island world. Hopefully Godzilla will continue to reign supreme, because it’s good to be the King. #godzilla #kingofthemonsters #gojira #monterverse #mothra #rodan #ghidorah #legendary Get more from NowThis Nerd: » Like Us: http://go.nowth.is/NowNerd_Facebook » Tweet Us: http://go.nowth.is/NowNerd_Twitter » Follow Us: http://go.nowth.is/NowNerd_Instagram Get more from NowThis News: » Subscribe to NowThis: http://go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe » Like us on Facebook: http://go.nowth.is/News_Facebook » Tweet us on Twitter: http://go.nowth.is/News_Twitter » Follow us on Instagram: http://go.nowth.is/News_Instagram » Find us on Snapchat Discover: http://go.nowth.is/News_Snapchat NowThis Nerd is your one stop shop for everything from movies and TV to games and comics. Disclosure: I tease and am snarky. Also British coffee is worse than American coffee. Soz. If you have coffee opinions, drop them down below in the comments. And if you're in London and have places that I absolutely need to try for coffee in order to eat all of my words in this video...let a girl know please! Happy to eat my words if it means I'm properly caffeinated. I'm sorry about some of the weird audio blips. I forgot that my hair has gotten longer and wore my microphone at a terrible place for that. Ain't the microphone's fault...it's my dumbness' fault. SORRY. The mug I use in this video is a smart Ember Travel Mug: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N2HT77T/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B01N2HT77T&linkCode=as2&tag=awesamadventu-20&linkId=372a317f427e398616c20de1689b7bc1 The mug is "smart" so you can set the temperature you want your drink to stay at for several hours. You can also get alerts to your phone once it cools down to you "drinkable" temperature (so you don't burn your tongue/mouth).

In this video, you'll learn about English manners. I'll tell you what we in England consider polite and impolite, and then go into detail about how we eat at the table, make and cancel plans, visit friends, and so much more. Some of these cultural aspects of living in England are different even from other English-speaking countries like the USA! Knowing these rules can help you make friends, get jobs, and even get into a romantic relationship. This video is especially important if you're living or travelling in England -- you could offend someone without even knowing it! Watch the video and leave your shoes ON! TAKE THE QUIZ: https://www.engvid.com/english-culture-manners/ TRANSCRIPT Hi, everyone. In this lesson we're going to look at manners in England. Here are the things that are considered polite, and the things that are not considered polite. So this is a talk about the culture, things that people do here in England, and the things that traditionally have been the most acceptable behaviour. Let's start with the things that are very important. So, I'm sure you already know this one: English people and queuing. "Queuing" is when you stand in a line when you don't... When you want something. You don't just, like, run up there to the front or push. You queue in a line. So, we queue up at the bank, for example, or we queue up when we want to get on a bus and there's some other people already there. Now, of course, in London because there are so many people and also not everyone is English so they have their manners from where they came from, you won't always see people queuing to get on the bus or on the tube, but you do generally still see people queuing up in a shop when they need to buy something. Next we have: It's very important to bring a bottle, and that means when you go to somebody's dinner party you take a bottle of wine when you go to the meal there. If you don't want to bring a bottle of wine, you can bring dessert or you can bring some flowers or some chocolates, but the general phrase and the general idea of it is bringing a bottle, as in a bottle of wine. Next we have RSVP. This is a term that comes from French: "Rpondez s'il vous plait", and this is a much more formal invitation that you get. If you're going to something, a special event like somebody's wedding... Because weddings are really expensive and they have to be organized so long in advance, people having the wedding really want to know if you're coming. So when you RSVP to the invitation it means you're definitely going, you will be there. So once you've RSVP'd, it's very, very impolite not to go. You must go if you RSVP. Next, I think that in England it's very important to be on time. We do tend to be punctual people, attend... Attend meetings at the right time, turn up to our jobs at the right time, or meet friends at the right time, most of us. Of course, there are those people who are always late for everything, but most people in general do things on time or even, like me, I always end up being 10 minutes early. I just can't help that. So I waste a lot of time being too early. Now let's look at table manners. Some of the things in the table manners' section are changing as people become more relaxed about eating and eating out. But these were all... These are all manners that people follow in more formal situations. Perhaps at home or with your very close friends it would be different. Now, I don't mean it's different for this first one. I'm not saying it's ever acceptable anywhere to slurp, burp-I can't do a burp noise. Anyway, you know what a burp is-and fart. Fart is noise from the other end. These things are never acceptable at the dinner table. Mm-mm, mm-mm. So, no eating noises or doing that when you eat. It's not acceptable. Elbows on the table, in a formal situation you're not going to do that, but relaxed with friends a lot of people do put their elbows on the table these days, not such a big deal. Drinking before... Just drinking your drink before somebody said: "Cheers" is considered impolite, but it's also a sign of being familiar with people. If you're familiar with them you don't have to go: "Oh, cheers for this drink and opportunity to drink with you." So it depends who it is. Using a mobile in the restaurant or when you're eating socially with people is considered rude, so to be like: "Oh, hold on. Let me just take this call. I'm so important, I've got to, you know, talk business", or something is considered rude, or to be like all the time texting on your phone. Of course it happens, and young people and teenagers are definitely going to do it more than older people, but on the whole it's considered impolite.

Music may be the finest therapy humanity has ever invented. If you like our films, take a look at our shop (we ship worldwide): http://bit.ly/2czLAUv FURTHER READING “One of the most calming things that societies have ever devised is the lullaby. In almost every culture there has ever been, mothers have rocked and sung their babies to sleep. A humbling point that a lullaby reveals is that it’s not necessarily the words of a song that make us feel more tranquil. The baby doesn’t understand what’s being said but the sound has its effect all the same. The baby is showing us that we are all tonal creatures long before we are creatures of understanding. As adults, we grasp the significance of words of course, but there remains a sensory level which cuts through and affects far more than an argument or an idea ever could. The musician can, at points, trump anything the philosopher might tell us….” You can read more on this and other topics on our blog TheBookofLife.org at this link: http://bit.ly/2cmEGSM MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: http://bit.ly/2cvT4pz Watch more films on POP CULTURE in our playlist: http://bit.ly/29Ak0pd Do you speak a different language to English? Ina May Gaskin, MA, CPM, PhD (Hon), is founder and director of the Farm Midwifery Center in Tennessee. The 41-year-old midwifery service is noted for its women-centered care. Early in her career, Gaskin learned an effective method for dealing with a feared obstetrical complication (when baby's shoulders become stuck during birth) from indigenous midwives in Guatemala. Years later, the low-intervention Gaskin Maneuver became the first obstetrical procedure to be named for a midwife in this era. The Farm Midwifery Center is noted for its low rates of intervention, morbidity and mortality despite the inclusion of many vaginally delivered breeches, twins and mothers of more than five babies. Author of several books, she promotes joyful birth, maintenance of breech skills and recognition of certain ingenious skills and techniques used by indigenous midwives of Mexico and Brazil. She has been awarded honorary doctorates from Thames Valley University, London, England and Shenandoah University, Winchester, Virginia. In December of 2011, she received the Right Livelihood Award, also known as the Alternative Nobel Prize. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
