How I See the US After Living in Europe for 2.5 Years | minimalist travel
I didn't think visiting the States after travelling through Europe for the past 2.5 years would be so difficult (yet illuminating at the same time), but I've experienced major culture shock in the past three weeks. I knew the American way of life was a certain way before leaving the States, but now that I've been away for a while, I feel like I view things differently. These are only a few of the major differencesI've noticed between life in the US vs. life in Europe. I have a lot more to discuss but I didn't want to make the video SUPER long. Thanks for watching! American Culture - Things That Shock Tourists Visiting The United States
When visiting The United States of America you will observe some strange social norms. In American Culture it is customary to tip waiters, waitresses, bartenders, door men at the hotel, baggage handlers, taxi drivers, limo drivers, uber drivers, and sky caps at the airport. You also need to stand in line, not show up places uninvited, wait your turn when shopping in a grocery store, speak English in public, recognize other peoples personal space, not ask people who they voted for in the elections and also not pick your nose or pee in public. https://twitter.com/NativeBornESL

Reducing fear of birth in U.S. culture: Ina May Gaskin at TEDxSacramento
Ina May Gaskin, MA, CPM, PhD (Hon), is founder and director of the Farm Midwifery Center in Tennessee. The 41-year-old midwifery service is noted for its women-centered care. Early in her career, Gaskin learned an effective method for dealing with a feared obstetrical complication (when baby's shoulders become stuck during birth) from indigenous midwives in Guatemala. Years later, the low-intervention Gaskin Maneuver became the first obstetrical procedure to be named for a midwife in this era. The Farm Midwifery Center is noted for its low rates of intervention, morbidity and mortality despite the inclusion of many vaginally delivered breeches, twins and mothers of more than five babies. Author of several books, she promotes joyful birth, maintenance of breech skills and recognition of certain ingenious skills and techniques used by indigenous midwives of Mexico and Brazil. She has been awarded honorary doctorates from Thames Valley University, London, England and Shenandoah University, Winchester, Virginia. In December of 2011, she received the Right Livelihood Award, also known as the Alternative Nobel Prize. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

School in the USA vs FRANCE: Differences + culture shocks (FRENCH SUBTITLES)
Hello you beautiful humans! In today's video, me and Maria, from the youtube channel Prana at Work, are talking all about the differences between school in the USA VS school in France. There are a tons of things to cover, so whether you want to study abroad in France or are here for the long term, we're sharing our experience to help you out! Maria and I met through youtube because we are both Americans in Paris, France, studying in French and married to French guys (tons of collaboration potential!) Maria is studying Human Resources at L'essec business school, which is an international business school in both English and French. For my part, I'm at a very small public art school. It was fun to compare and contrast the differences between the United States and France and see that actually, our two French schools are very different. One thing that was a bit of a culture shock to both of us is the lack of team sports and activities with in the French school. While there are tons of things going on in Paris, school is meant for learning and less for socializing in the French culture. Another thing that shocked me personally is the fact that everything is a bit more laid back (at least in my art school) and smoking is permitted inside (only in France) haha. We both really miss the charismatic professors as it's true, in the USA there are a lot of big personalities. However, I quite enjoy the fact that I'm on the same level as the professors and they aren't exalted in France (more liberal I suppose). As Maria and I both have a degree from universities in the USA and now are working on university degrees in France, we have a pretty unique opportunity to see from both sides. One of my favorite things about being a student in France is the price! France makes it easy to be a student by making education affordable for everyone. I also really enjoy how small my school is and that in France, whatever you study, you most likely end up doing in the long run. Me and Maria both speak French, but I think its possible to study in France with only English as well. If you liked this video give it a thumbs up and make sure to check out the collaboration I did for Maria's channel all about how to get in to school in France (visas, etc): Have any questions? Leave them in the comments below! LINK TO MARIA'S CHANNEL (subscribe, she's awesome!): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWmNFlapeS1rNxcWMSR8ynA Want more? Here is a link to other places you can find me online! MY SOCIAL MEDIA: Instagram: _purple_palace Down below are some FAQS that I get. I do accept video requests in the comments (but won't promise sh*t) and almost always reply back! FAQS Why do you live in France? I moved to Paris to be an Au pair and then met my love (as you do in France) and then got married and built a life here :) What do you study? I study Fine art/multimedia. You can see my work here: @_purple_palace Is Paris safe? This is such a broad question but in short--yes and no! Check out my video: Biggest French culture shock to understand what I mean... Do you speak French fluently? Yes, check out some of my videos completely in French Where do you live in France? Paris Why did you start youtube? Because I miss speaking in English and I wanted to build a community where I share a bit of my experience as an American abroad/help people? Plus it's fun AF How can I get a visa to France? it depends on what your goals are..Check out my video on how to move to France on a budget to get some ideas on visas, etc. What kind of camera do you use? Canon G7X What video software do you use? Final Cut pro X How often do you post? I try to post a Paris vlog at least once a week! Can we collaborate? I love the idea of collaborating and if you think our channels could vibe well and your in the Paris region please send me a mail! What arrondissement of Paris is the best? The 20th, duh ;) What cheese do you like? (no one asks me this jk) All the cheeses Where do you shop in France? Thrift stores like guerrisol are my favourite..Check out my video "Come thrifting with me in Paris" to see more. See you guys soon and stay inspired!!

English Culture: Manners & How to be polite
In this video, you'll learn about English manners. I'll tell you what we in England consider polite and impolite, and then go into detail about how we eat at the table, make and cancel plans, visit friends, and so much more. Some of these cultural aspects of living in England are different even from other English-speaking countries like the USA! Knowing these rules can help you make friends, get jobs, and even get into a romantic relationship. This video is especially important if you're living or travelling in England -- you could offend someone without even knowing it! Watch the video and leave your shoes ON! TAKE THE QUIZ: https://www.engvid.com/english-culture-manners/ TRANSCRIPT Hi, everyone. In this lesson we're going to look at manners in England. Here are the things that are considered polite, and the things that are not considered polite. So this is a talk about the culture, things that people do here in England, and the things that traditionally have been the most acceptable behaviour. Let's start with the things that are very important. So, I'm sure you already know this one: English people and queuing. "Queuing" is when you stand in a line when you don't... When you want something. You don't just, like, run up there to the front or push. You queue in a line. So, we queue up at the bank, for example, or we queue up when we want to get on a bus and there's some other people already there. Now, of course, in London because there are so many people and also not everyone is English so they have their manners from where they came from, you won't always see people queuing to get on the bus or on the tube, but you do generally still see people queuing up in a shop when they need to buy something. Next we have: It's very important to bring a bottle, and that means when you go to somebody's dinner party you take a bottle of wine when you go to the meal there. If you don't want to bring a bottle of wine, you can bring dessert or you can bring some flowers or some chocolates, but the general phrase and the general idea of it is bringing a bottle, as in a bottle of wine. Next we have RSVP. This is a term that comes from French: "Rpondez s'il vous plait", and this is a much more formal invitation that you get. If you're going to something, a special event like somebody's wedding... Because weddings are really expensive and they have to be organized so long in advance, people having the wedding really want to know if you're coming. So when you RSVP to the invitation it means you're definitely going, you will be there. So once you've RSVP'd, it's very, very impolite not to go. You must go if you RSVP. Next, I think that in England it's very important to be on time. We do tend to be punctual people, attend... Attend meetings at the right time, turn up to our jobs at the right time, or meet friends at the right time, most of us. Of course, there are those people who are always late for everything, but most people in general do things on time or even, like me, I always end up being 10 minutes early. I just can't help that. So I waste a lot of time being too early. Now let's look at table manners. Some of the things in the table manners' section are changing as people become more relaxed about eating and eating out. But these were all... These are all manners that people follow in more formal situations. Perhaps at home or with your very close friends it would be different. Now, I don't mean it's different for this first one. I'm not saying it's ever acceptable anywhere to slurp, burp-I can't do a burp noise. Anyway, you know what a burp is-and fart. Fart is noise from the other end. These things are never acceptable at the dinner table. Mm-mm, mm-mm. So, no eating noises or doing that when you eat. It's not acceptable. Elbows on the table, in a formal situation you're not going to do that, but relaxed with friends a lot of people do put their elbows on the table these days, not such a big deal. Drinking before... Just drinking your drink before somebody said: "Cheers" is considered impolite, but it's also a sign of being familiar with people. If you're familiar with them you don't have to go: "Oh, cheers for this drink and opportunity to drink with you." So it depends who it is. Using a mobile in the restaurant or when you're eating socially with people is considered rude, so to be like: "Oh, hold on. Let me just take this call. I'm so important, I've got to, you know, talk business", or something is considered rude, or to be like all the time texting on your phone. Of course it happens, and young people and teenagers are definitely going to do it more than older people, but on the whole it's considered impolite.

Comicstorian took to Twitter yet again to talk about the subject he supposedly doesn't care about...to tell everyone yet again that he "doesn't care" about comic culture — and by extension its effect on the health of the industry. Everyone should thank him for letting local comic book shop owners and loyal customers where he stands.

Biggest culture shock to Indians when they arrive in Europe/North America
https://askjai.com Here are biggest culture shocks to Indians when they visit Europe/North America. Twitter: https://twitter.com/askjaicom Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jai23155 When you see this for the first time you will definitely give it few more glances before you move on. haha! If a girl says 'I love you Jai' it doesn't mean she is proposing to me in most cases. You can ask any girl for a date and she won't hit you or curse you or her brother wont chase you. She may say Sorry or you may get lucky. People follow rules. Simple as that. You will figure this out quickly. Super clean roads and disciplined driving. You will almost never realize how peaceful it is without 'Blow your horn' Now, this is a daily newspaper but you will think it's a porn magazine. Yes it is French style everywhere You will quickly realize that the paper roll next to the toilet is not to jot down notes. A statement 'I don't drink' or 'I don't eat non-veg' almost always provokes a question 'Why?'. If you say 'I don't eat chicken on Saturday' you will spend a good few minutes explaining why. My wife recently moved to UK. Whenever someone smiles at me (walking down the street) my wife asks 'Do you know him/her?'. It's a norm. You (men) will get few weird looks if you put your hands on shoulders of your male Dost (friend). No touchy touchy! I still see some of my juniors start conversations (with British) with 'are you married?' The density of the pubs/bars is same as density of Kirana store (Grocery shop) in India. Bank/GP/employer/etc.. asks 'are you married?' you say NO then they ask you 'do you have any kids?' well.. I was perceived as a rude guy many times when I moved to UK. I wasn't used to say 'please' There is a British way of saying NO. We generally don't get it for a while. Almost all the time people are very polite. You will get an holiday for this When you're a newly married Indian guy, you will spend your next few months explaining how arranged marriages work at almost every gathering. You will talk little about your own wedding. People say 'I have a funeral next week' and you think 'how does she know someone's dying next week?' (FYI - When a person dies the funeral/burial usually happens after few days to a week whereas in my home town it's usually before next sundown.) Do you drive? doesn't mean 'can you drive?' it means 'Do you have a car which you drive it yourself?' You can get rental car with no driver. India is now catching up with this. A female barber! hmmm.. I should get my hair cut here instead! Yes, you see them a lot. You will be pleased to know you can have tea almost anywhere you go but it's not same tea as in India. When some one makes you a coffee (not in coffee shop) you won't like it for the first time but you will get used to it. You ask for a whisky with coke (Jack Daniels is an exception) and waiter asks you again. Whisky lovers don't take it with coke/soda. You'll see every other person chewing a gum. You will witness a boy friend and girl friend walk into shop, buy stuff and each pay for their own stuff. You'll find disabled access in almost all places. You'll realize that not half of the people go to church regularly like Hindus go to temple. Potato is a big part of the diet here. People call almost anybody and everybody by their names. Like you call your professor or CEO at your workplace by his/her name. Dinner is not always supper it could be lunch too. Tea is not always Tea it could be supper. I used to work in a super market where I had to cook and sell whole chickens when I was at Univ. Sometimes customers buy chicken and says 'I will have this for my tea'. I used to think 'How the hell she eats chicken while sipping tea? that's weird.' Later I realized they meant it supper (in this context). For tea, they say tea biscuit or cup of tea. People have their dinner early. Usually before 7pm. You will hardly find anyone eating with their bare hands. Most of times you'll realize business here try to follow 'customer is god' and 'customer is always right'. Pubs are crowded on weekends. People take holidays regularly. People eat out quite a lot.
