John Molloy (1 month ago)
the first line dance I ever seen was in 1973 at school, during the morning pep rally,  the black girls did a line dance calledthe" Harlem Shuffle" to "You Keep Me Hanging On" by The Supremes, ...it was the coolest dance I seen and I'll never forget it.
Edith Davis (1 month ago)
Line dancing was around long before Billy Ray and Achey Breakey Heart. Which came out years before it should have. Now Every one would love it. Look how many like Red Solo Cup.
Lorna Murdoch Eaton (1 month ago)
Watch Bobby Banas do "The Nitty Gritty!" Absolutely awesome still, after all these years - but impossible to replicate. He had the moves!
Hank West (1 month ago)
Gangnam style?...That punk, after getting rich in the USA, turned out to be a total anti-American bigot and ingrate (especially after all the lives lost saving Korea from communism, if we had not done it, he would not have had a career in the first place!), "F" him!...

michael jackson moonwalker as a child on american bandstand
rbustamante15 (1 month ago)
The " moonwalk " is NOT a dance nor a craze, but rather 1 move. You would NEVER see someone that wasn't retarded do that move on the dance floor. Idiots...
DIME DIVA (29 days ago)
I agree..a dance craze is when mostly anyone can do it. You don't see 20 or more people moon walking.

Bill Bailey "invented" the Moonwalk NOT Michael Jackson.....................
Eazy-E Ryder (1 month ago)
WTF??? The Macarena (Colin Powell) should have been WAYY higher on this list, AT LEAST in top 3!!! And I live Michael Jackson buy how the hell is A Dance that VERY FEW people can do a craze??

Nut Bush. Had learn that in primary school. 😏

Hank Ballard and the Midnighters recorded "The Twist" earlier and better. And the Eisley Brothers did "Twist and Shout" earlier and better.
Donna Manning (2 months ago)
Origin of line dancing 2011 with Cyrus? WRONG! It was very popular back in the very early 1960s on American Bandstand and Friday night dances at school.

Regarding MJ's moonwalk...he didn't invent it, he learned it from a Fred Astaire movie and credited Mr Astaire for influencing him. However, search for a video called "Origins of the Moonwalk" posted by broallen25. You'll see the history of the Moonwalk. But, yeah, Michael just effing nailed it!
ZainaDancer (18 days ago)
+Ernie Turpin I didn't say Mr Astaire invented the moonwalk, I said MJ credited Astaire for influencing him (which I read in an interview). And if you read my full post I did say there was another video (actually several) which shows the origins of the moonwalk, and is full of black performers doing the moonwalk. The first person credited with doing this move on stage, as a matter of fact, is Bill Bailey in 1955 at the Apollo. Bottom line, doesn't matter who invented it, Michael Jackson will always be the person remembered for it.
Ernie Turpin (18 days ago)
ZainaDancer The moonwalk wasn’t invented by Fred Astaire either. Look back on your black history music. That’s when it started.

LazlosPlane (2 months ago)
Um, excuse me, but The Charleston was a bigger phenomenon than ALL of these dances. And it was an actual "dance," unlike the moonwalk which is just a move within a dance. Awful.
Joy Burke (3 months ago)
Michael Jackson moon walk should have been number one. Love and miss you MJ.

The Waltz? Seriously it started off as a being labeled "dirty degenerate dancing" in the 1500's. It would be akin to twerking/grinding today.

Line dances usually get ALL AGES up and dancing .🤩😎🤗😊

The “Lindy Hop” was the black “jitterbug”. There was never a real “Locomotion” dance. By the time “The Twist” reached white audiences, the dance and song (the original Hank Ballard version), both had come and gone in the black community.

Some of these are dance steps to a particular song (Macarena), some a dance steps per se (Moonwalk), some are dance types (line dancing and swing dancing). Putting all these into one countdown is like comparing apples and oranges and mangoes!

4:08 sorry the country line dance has been around long before fuckin achey breaky heart.
Kody Salazar (3 months ago)
All of your snarky remarks show how out of touch with the appreciation or resurgence of some of these dance moves are. Your channel tends to disappoint and or bore (not to mention pronounces a multitude of things incorrectly) every time I give it a chance and find myself disappointed. You guys need to be better. At literally EVERYTHING.

Excuse me, but Billy Ray Syrus started line dances?  I think not.  We were doing line dances back in the 60s before the Beatles came on the scene.  Ask anyone from the Philly area.

MetalTigger (4 months ago)
SOME 101% FACTS: The dance they are performing to 'Macarana' is credited to South American Choreographer who wrote it in the early 1990's.. WRONG This dance was doing the rounds in the mid 1970's.. I even have a video of my daughter and friends doing it in 1989 Billy Ray Cyrus and linedancing.. cowboy boots n hats...WRONG. Linedance (as it became later known) was alive before even the Americans came up with The Bus Stop in 1975.. and NOT in America... 1968 was the year of possibly the first fully authenticated line Dance... and in Manchester,England.

Could have thrown in a couple of honorable mentions, the bird dance (also known as chicken dance) , Charleston dance, the stroll, moon walk shouldn't be number 2 , not taking away anything from Michael but it was limited as far number of people actually doing the dance.
Sattnin77 (5 months ago)
Electric Slide?? Cha Cha Slide?? Cupid Shuffle??
