Since this seems to be geared towards an older era of dancing, I'll forgive them for not including... ...the floss
Gandolf the White (6 days ago)
In 1955 the famous mime and French actor Marcel Marceau did a routine in which he is being blown backwards by a powerful, invisible wind. He is actually moonwalking backwards and Jackson picked up the move.

No way, the order is super wrong.

Some of the later examples used for swing were actually Rock 'n' Roll dancing. Swing became Rock 'n' Roll and you can tell the difference based on their footwork. Rock 'n' roll looks organised in terms of foot movements and initiating jumps, but many of the jumps are very similar.

The locomotion is three steps seriously watchmojo not that hard ,1.Swing your hips,2.jump up.3 jump back. That's it they should listen to the song before saying it's too hard. Seriously the dance is so easy even the singers baby sister can do it.

Michael Jackson never innovated a single dance. Every move he used was stolen from legendary Broadway choreographer Bob Fosse.

How can you miss the 'Stroll' from the original American Band Stand? Soul Train? Etc? lol, if that isn't a LINE DANCE, I dont know what is? Lining up in a line? Hello? lol...you also forgot 'The Running Man' from the 90s. No love for Vanilla Ice? 'Ice, Ice' baby?'

I don't like Michael Jackson's dancing he was not king of any thing .it has been said elvis was king of rock and roll I would rather listen to elvis any day than Michael Jackson. We have one king and that is jesus christ he the only king in we have. I liked Michael Jackson when he was little he could really sing. I like the oldies

I know the lyrics of Macarena and they are actually not that difficult, if you only try and understand Spanish.
RoMayDrako (1 month ago)
Loco Motion, god every time I hear that song it takes me back to the roller rink. Picture a conga line of strangers swinging their hips then trying to jump back on skates. YMCA brings me back to the roller rink as well. And of course the line dancing in gym can't forget that. Where i lived we had polka to dance to, but frack they made us do line dancing.

''C'mon, b a b y, ...let's do the... s t r o l l'', The Diamonds, American Bandstand, 1950s, cool line dancing.
alkh3myst (1 month ago)
The Electric Slide belongs on this list. I don't ever recall being at a wedding reception where it hasn't broken out.
Reginald Wilkinson (1 month ago)
You should have added the Electric Slide to the line dancing segment. No cowboy boots required.
9some (1 month ago)
the order is correct, although you got lost a lil like around places 3-5 but it's alright and you should have include the 1518 dance craze, real and original
1942rita (1 month ago)
I think Hairspray deserves a place —the continental, the stroll and other dances in the movie were memorable and fun
Douglas Swicegood (1 month ago)
You're wrong about the Locomotion 1962. I was very little but I learned it! You form a long train of dancers and follow the instructions it's easy as anything and we did it by Little Eva's version in 1962. So you are very wrong on this point the dance existed! Anyone remember "The Stroll" from 1957 by the Diamonds. It was a song and a dance mainly on American Bandstand it spread from there.

Somebody saying Swing dancing is a craze is like stepping on moon like Neal Armstrong is a craze. Macarena is, Lambada is, Flossing is, Twist is. (Disco is not, Line dancing is not, you get the point.)
Cyndi Foore (2 months ago)
Oh my, we did the swim, the pony, the jerk and never forget....the CHA-CHA!!!!
Samuel Singleton (2 months ago)
Couldn''t have too many Blacks on this because then, you'd have people thinking that it's Whites who can dance......with a partner WITHOUT grabing them. Maybe that's why the electric slide was left off.
Courtney Palmer (2 months ago)

the first line dance I ever seen was in 1973 at school, during the morning pep rally,  the black girls did a line dance calledthe" Harlem Shuffle" to "You Keep Me Hanging On" by The Supremes, ...it was the coolest dance I seen and I'll never forget it.
Edith Davis (3 months ago)
Line dancing was around long before Billy Ray and Achey Breakey Heart. Which came out years before it should have. Now Every one would love it. Look how many like Red Solo Cup.
Lorna Murdoch Eaton (3 months ago)
Watch Bobby Banas do "The Nitty Gritty!" Absolutely awesome still, after all these years - but impossible to replicate. He had the moves!
Hank West (3 months ago)
Gangnam style?...That punk, after getting rich in the USA, turned out to be a total anti-American bigot and ingrate (especially after all the lives lost saving Korea from communism, if we had not done it, he would not have had a career in the first place!), "F" him!...

michael jackson moonwalker as a child on american bandstand
rbustamante15 (3 months ago)
The " moonwalk " is NOT a dance nor a craze, but rather 1 move. You would NEVER see someone that wasn't retarded do that move on the dance floor. Idiots...
DIME DIVA (3 months ago)
I agree..a dance craze is when mostly anyone can do it. You don't see 20 or more people moon walking.

Bill Bailey "invented" the Moonwalk NOT Michael Jackson.....................
Eazy-E Ryder (3 months ago)
WTF??? The Macarena (Colin Powell) should have been WAYY higher on this list, AT LEAST in top 3!!! And I live Michael Jackson buy how the hell is A Dance that VERY FEW people can do a craze??
Jeremy k (4 months ago)
Nut Bush. Had learn that in primary school. 😏
D Storm (4 months ago)
Hank Ballard and the Midnighters recorded "The Twist" earlier and better. And the Eisley Brothers did "Twist and Shout" earlier and better.
Donna Manning (4 months ago)
Origin of line dancing 2011 with Cyrus? WRONG! It was very popular back in the very early 1960s on American Bandstand and Friday night dances at school.

ZainaDancer (4 months ago)
Regarding MJ's moonwalk...he didn't invent it, he learned it from a Fred Astaire movie and credited Mr Astaire for influencing him. However, search for a video called "Origins of the Moonwalk" posted by broallen25. You'll see the history of the Moonwalk. But, yeah, Michael just effing nailed it!
ZainaDancer (2 months ago)
+Ernie Turpin I didn't say Mr Astaire invented the moonwalk, I said MJ credited Astaire for influencing him (which I read in an interview). And if you read my full post I did say there was another video (actually several) which shows the origins of the moonwalk, and is full of black performers doing the moonwalk. The first person credited with doing this move on stage, as a matter of fact, is Bill Bailey in 1955 at the Apollo. Bottom line, doesn't matter who invented it, Michael Jackson will always be the person remembered for it.
Ernie Turpin (2 months ago)
ZainaDancer The moonwalk wasn’t invented by Fred Astaire either. Look back on your black history music. That’s when it started.
