Today, Carlos is talking about his three favorite leather jackets and tips on how to rock them.
The first style is a classic racer jacket, also called a motorcycle jacket. Carlos suggests pairing the jacket with a plain, solid colored shirt underneath like a classic white, grey, or black. You can also style the racer with a pair of sunglasses like Ray Ban wayfarers.
The second jacket is a quilted leather rocker jacket. Carlos points out that once again, classic solid tees are great to wear underneath, but with this jacket you have the added option of throwing on a zip-up hoodie for an added layer of badassery.
The third and final jacket is the classic black biker leather jacket. This jacket works well with solid tees or even button-up shirts underneath.
Carlos also discusses the varying types of materials and skin-types of the three jackets and the challenges of finding the perfect leather jacket in vintage shops.
What you are calling a "Classic Rocker" jacket is what James Dean wore in 'Rebel without a Cause'. The quilted one in brown is basicly the same. In fact most rockers wear the black one. Michael Jackson started a fad of a red one, with many, many zippers. What you called a 'biker' jacket or 'classic racer' was the kind of motorcycle jacket that Fonzie wore in 'Happy Days'. You should have had the 'classic' leather car coat, usually worn with a leather 'pork pie' hat and white t-shirt. Also known as the classic wiseguy look.
As a biker, do NOT wear any vest with motorcycle club patches you buy on it. CLUB patches, not random patches. Easy way to get your ass beat if you stitch on someone elses clubs patches you bought online.
I had 2 given to me by my grandfather, the first was one he had off my cousins dad it was a nice American themed brown jacket then the other was a stitch pattern design black jacket he wore when he went ro woek at tesco. Later on when he retured he hung it up in the house and forgotten about it before my mum found it o e day and ga e it me. it had 2 brittish themed badges so i added more badges ro it and eventually a patch on each arm but the glue I used wore off within a few weeks, after retrying it again and again I gave up and used gurrilla glue which kept part of it on but not all of it and then it all peeled off taking part of the top layer of leather it was glued to with it. This happened on both arms and it was ireperable, and plus the elbows on them had worn considerably and began to show little holes that were ripping, so i decided to cut both the arms off with scissors and I now use it as a body warmer or armless jacket, biker cut whatever you want to call it. even though I may not wear it often and it shows its age. I'm still happy to know that my grandad's had it for this long (20 years) & kept it, and that it's been passed down to me still wearing it to this day. :)
Douglas Pelletier I suppose that depends on how much you're willing to spend and what kind of style you're after. I have been looking at some stuff on Wilson leather, which I think is fairly good and quite affordable. Most good leather dealers offer faux leather. Btw wilsons faux leather looks great
